It says "Now playing in select theaters, opens everywhere on June 17th." So what does that mean? It will play everywhere in theaters all over the world or it will play in all theaters all over the US? That would be cool if it plays where I'm at. I'd probably go see it multiple times.
If it does play in all theaters on June 17th, IT TOOK LONG ENOUGH. I've been a big Miyazaki fan ever since I saw Warriors of the Wind (nausica) in the 80s. That was the first I saw.

I picked up a couple of free passes for a preview showing last night, and I went with my 70 year-old mom, who is a huge Miyazaki fan, and she likes quite a bit of other anime, as well. We met a couple of my friends at the theater.
I did notice that it had been changed quite a bit from the original book, and there were moments that didn't seem to be explained adequately in the film. I loved the film, although I didn't care for the extreme anti-war message that was added.
Hisaishi Joe did a marvelous job on the music, as usual.

There was an article about Miyazaki (when princess mononoke was out) that he is getting old and he's hand shakes a little when he animates. After princess mononoke was finished, he felt exhausted and didn't have the energy like he used to.
I'm sure he will continue to create stories, but he may have to have less involvement with the animation, kinda sad but it's reality.

Yeah, since when was an extreme anti-war message a bad thing? I mean, this is a Miyazaki film, so I highly doubt it's that conspicuous to the point of liberal propoganda (the opposite of art). I would rather have children exposed to an extreme dose of pro-peace then even a drop of pro-war.Mr. Toad wrote:Would you prefer a pro war message?
Actually, I thought the anti-war message was the most endearing thing about the film. There were many truths included.

I was wondering, is this movie all done in 3D with the toon shader effect on it to make you believe it's done in cell animation? The reason I ask is because I rented the new Appleseed anime the other day and the animation appears to be done all in 3D with the toon shaders added on to it (seems like that's what most animation studios are going for these days, all digitial, not sure about Disney). I read somewhere Spirited Away was supposed to be the last Miyazaki animation combing 3D and traditional 2D cell animation and his movies after that is supposed to be all done in 3D with toon shaders. I thought I saw a similar technique with Spiderman animation on MTV.

It opened yesterday in a theater downtown, so I took my little brother to see it and we both loved it. I personally thought it was better than Spirited Away and the audience seemed to respond more to this film. When I saw SA, I didn't hear one person laugh and didn't feel anybody else gripping the edge of their seat. With this one, people laughed a lot and I saw people sit up straight during the climax. I think part of the reason this film is so charming is that the main character is an old woman for most of the film, there is a love theme that was laking in SA, and the story's settings are all over the place, as opposed to being locked in a spirit bath house. If you have the opportunity, you should definatley go see it. I can't wait til the DVD release. I wish it was coming in August with wave 3!

I think Disney wants to release the DVD in February to help campaign for the movie for the 2006 Animated Feature Film Oscar. By releasing the film during preliminary voting, it ensures voters will remember it and more than likely vote for it. It's a tried and true method.goofystitch wrote:It opened yesterday in a theater downtown, so I took my little brother to see it and we both loved it.
