Thanks for posting! It's a shame it wasn't used when it was fully animated. Personally, I didn't find the animation of the epilogue bad, but now that we can see a longer sequence, I think it not only doesn't look bad, but it's actually quite good. Especially, Eleanor's expressions. I wonder when they were going to make the transition to live-action. Was everything from Motherland going to be animated?Sotiris wrote:The deleted animated opening is now available to watch at the animation studio's website.

Re: Godmothered
Well, in the final film, this prologue is so similar to the live action one used, but unless my mind was playing tricks on me, there was an animated bird going from the end of the prologue into the live action world/title sequence. So, surely that was the transition to live-action, right after this prologue, using the animated bird transition to the live action world/title sequence.D82 wrote:I wonder when they were going to make the transition to live-action. Re: Godmothered
Whose bright idea was to have that intro cut? It's gorgeous, charming, well-paced, and gets the story going better than the actual live-action intro they went with. And it was fully animated and matches the epilogue. Why not have the epilogue in live-action too then? All this... Just why? Maybe they felt it was to similar to Enchanted? Still not a good reason to have it cut.

Re: Godmothered
The bird already appears at the beginning of that unused animated prologue, but I guess it's possible it was going to appear again at the end. However, what I meant is that the animated prologue covers most of what happens in the live-action one, but not all of it. There are still a couple of scenes from Motherland in the final prologue that don't have animated counterparts: one in which Eleanor packs to go to the real world and speaks with her roommate, the character played by June Squibb, and the one in which she crosses the magic portal. Were those two scenes not planned to be in the film at first or were they going to be in live-action unlike the rest of the scenes taking place at Motherland?blackcauldron85 wrote:Well, in the final film, this prologue is so similar to the live action one used, but unless my mind was playing tricks on me, there was an animated bird going from the end of the prologue into the live action world/title sequence. By the way, the other day I didn't read the text on the link. Now that I did, I found it interesting that having animated segments wasn't the original plan for the film, but a solution they came up with since they couldn't film the live-action prologue due to lockdown. I guess the reason why the animated one wasn't used is that they were finally able to shoot it.
Source: https://www.studioaka.co.uk/OurWork/godmotheredIn the summer of 2020, with the studio building closed and all staff working remotely, Studio AKA was commissioned by Disney to create 7 minutes of feature quality 2D animation to complement existing shots in the Disney+ film GODMOTHERED. The film had lost the last weeks of shooting to lockdown, and a crucial sequence setting up the story was missing. Working with Director Sharon Maguire, AKA had to devise a world that would feel integral to the film, feel very much in the tradition of Disney animation, but have its own unique identity...

Re: Godmothered
Wow, I had no idea they originally made the opening animated just because of Covid! Mystery solved! Well, except for why it's live-action in the final film! And I wonder if the ending was always meant to be animated, but by the sound of what D82 posted, nope.

Re: Godmothered
^Yeah, I don't think the ending was meant to be animated either. They commissioned 7 minutes of animation, and that includes the ending. Plus, it was quite late in the game when they asked the animation studio to do it. If they had wanted an animated epilogue from the beginning, I think they would've contacted the studio earlier. Regarding why they didn't use the animated prologue, I think they probably had the actresses cast, the sets built and the costumes made before lockdown, so when they were allowed to shoot again, most likely they thought it was a shame not to use all that. And I guess they kept the animated epilogue to feature at least some of the work made by the animators.

Re: Godmothered
Cool! I like the one with the stars at the end of the "G" and the crossing of the "t", the one with the Disney dust coming off the crossing of the "t", and the one with the calligraphy of "Godmother" but with a less professional "ed". I would have liked the one with the crossing of the "t" with the star at the end to look like a magic wand, and it could have Disney dust, too, and it wouldn't have the end of the "G" with a star, so it would just look like it had a magic wand. However, that would have made it even closer to the Disenchanted logo.
