Re: Newsies on Broadway
The digital-release came out this past Tuesday. Has anyone downloaded it yet? I'm super bummed that they're not releasing it to DVD (even on an on-demand basis). I've never downloaded a movie before, but I guess it won't be hard to access if I use Disney Movies Anywhere...just have never downloaded a movie.

Re: Newsies on Broadway
Same. I'm still holding out for a Blu-Ray release. I love the show and want to support it (especially because I want Disney to do their other Broadway shows like this. Imagine a 20th Anniversary Lion King later this year or Aladdin whilst the original cast are all still the right age to be used for a recording) but I'm not getting a digital version which I might not even be able to play on my TV (I want this on a bigger screen than a tablet).Sotiris wrote:I wish they released it on Blu-ray!

Re: Newsies on Broadway
I bought the musical soundtrack for this when it was released just 'cause (it's Menken, so.
). But I was never able to get into Newsies all these years. Even listening to the soundtrack when I first bought it, I was just left cold. I put it on again the past day or two to give it another go, partly because the end of the Tangled series made me want to hear more of Jeremy Jordan's voice and I knew he was in this from looking up his other work back when that show first started a couple of years ago. And, I dunno what it is, the music for Newsies finally clicked in place for me this time? I'm enjoying nearly every song right now. "That's Rich," "Seize the Day," "Watch What Happens," "The World Will Know," "Carrying the Banner," "Santa Fe," "Once and For All," "Something to Believe In," etc.
Now I'm interested to watch the film again. Maybe I'll be able to enjoy it more than I have in the past. The first time I ever saw Newsies was actually in an English class back in high school. Back then, I had no idea the music was made by the same person who did TLM, Aladdin, B&tB, and so on. I don't own the film, so I'll have to wait to see it again. I do have a copy of the film version of "Seize the Day" as part of those classic Disney compilations and I'm listening to it. I don't think I like it as much as the musical version, but I still enjoy it. I was just looking at the film's Wikipedia page and apparently one of the songs not carried over to the musical won a Raspberry Worst Song award.
Can't win 'em all, I guess. I'm glad Menken at least won a Tony for the musical.

Have you seen the recording of the Broadway performance? I think both versions are worth watching/listening to. They're just different experiences.

No, I haven't. Is it on Netflix? (Probably a dumb question now that Disney+ exists.
)

^ I doubt it!
You can download it from Movies Anywhere, I'm betting Google Play store...but I don't know how much $ you want to spend! I know there are performances on YouTube, like when the cast performed on The View, Macy's Parade, etc, but I bet there are plenty of clips of the stage show on YouTube.

No, it's on Disney+, as expected. You can always get a free trial to watch it and cancel your account after it ends. It premiered on Freeform last September so it may air again there.Disney's Divinity wrote:Is it on Netflix? (Probably a dumb question now that Disney+ exists.)

(I'll be working so probably can't watch this...) I don't really use Instagram, and I tried this morning, actually, to watch a previous Disney On Broadway Instagram Live video, but I couldn't find it, so maybe once it's over you can't rewatch it?

MTI Releases Theatrical Rights for Newsies JR.

https://www.broadwayworld.com/article/M ... R-20220119
Source: https://www.broadwayworld.com/board/rea ... 77#5164774I was actually in a pilot production of Newsies Jr. last May! The romantic subplot is removed (sorry, "Something to Believe In"New Disney MTI Jr/Kids Shows, but there's enough material between Jack and Katherine that a few simple stage directions could hint at a relationship, as our director did. There is one reprise of "Carrying the Banner" during the transition to Pulitzer's office, but the second reprise after "The Bottom Line" was cut. "Letter from the Refuge" is kinda combined with "Santa Fe" as a sort of counterpoint duet. Medda did make the cut as of May - "That's Rich" and "I Never Planned on You" are combined into one vaudeville number called "Just a Pretty Face," with all-new lyrics by Jack Feldman. Unfortunately, "Watch What Happens (Reprise)" is cut completely, making Jack's return to the strike more ambiguous before, at least in this version, the Delanceys actually capture Jack and drag him to Pulitzer's office.

Re: Newsies on Broadway
I was confused and did some Google searching and the full license for schools came out in 2018; this is the Jr version- obviously you posted that it's Jr!... It's crazy that it took until 2018 to get the full school license out there, since schools asking to produce Newsies was a catalyst for what ended up being the Broadway show.

Re: Newsies on Broadway
Newsies performance at the Olivier Awards. The UK production was nominated for Best Theatre Choreographer and won in the category with the choreographer giving an acceptance speech.
Re: Newsies on Broadway
I'm glad the show has gotten another award, this time for the UK production. This is something I had never thought about before, but since the musical has had some success, would it be possible they could make a film adaptation someday? I guess it's not very likely since the original movie was a flop, but it would be cool if they could make one with a bit more quality than the first.
