Could they possibly create a more desperate Maleficent tie-in?

Subtle Disney..... very subtle....

Well to be fair, the vast majority of people who like Sleeping Beauty primarily do because of Maleficent.

Not that I don't see where people who are calling the cover a cash-in for the movie, but I don't think it's that big of an issue.

Agreed. Of course it's a cash in, but I don't think that's really an issue. It just makes sense. If anything, I'd prefer for it to be available at a time when I'm in a Maleficent/Sleeping Beauty kind if mood.

I personally wasn't complaining, just sayin', to use an annoying phrase. Either way, it's something different for a SB cover for once. I'm probably not buying anyway though.

Aurora's curled bang is on the wrong side of her head.

:? They never used clip art for any home video covers.

You're right, but in the past they've done so much over-painting and airbrushing that it ends up looking quite a bit like clipart. Since they're using art from a storybook this time around, it looks much much better in my opinion.

This.

And while, yes, it is obviously tying in to the Maleficent movie, it is a lot different from what we've seen before. Having Aurora being more active instead of... well, sleeping.

She may not be sleeping on the cover but she still has her eyes shut.

I love that cover! I'm also pleased that they have finally moved away from sleeping Sleeping Beauty.

However, having just got the 2008 release I won't be buying. I'll find any new bonus features on YouTube. I couldn't justify buying this film for a fourth time, no matter how much I really want too ( a sign I really don't know what to spend my money on).
Settling Soul mates? That is grim. And I've played Monopoly alone.

I kept thinking there's no way I would buy this one again. Now, after seeing the new cover artwork, I'll change my mind maybe. :D

Is it me, or does Aurora look really sad?

Anyway, while far from the absolute best cover in the world, it's nice to see Aurora awake and in her peasant costume as opposed to the pink/blue gown.

I like the concept, but I hate how cliparty it looks. But I have a feeling that the days of orignal new artwork for Disney home releases on disc is gonna be a thing of the past. Still hate the sideways text!

Huh?? This is the opposite of "cliparty". It's actually well drawn and illustrated. Shows no signs of being off model or airbrushed, the way clipart very often is.

Exactly. It looks much better than clip art.

I'm just happy that, for now at least, it isn't the gold with the oval frame off to the side like Cinderella, Mermaid and Jungle Book.

it is cliparty to me, b/c as on shown in a previous post its just an image lifted out of artwork from a storybook. Its like making a cover with images photoshopped out of screencaps. Its lazy. The Maleficent is probably lifted from somewhere else too.

Right, but since it was illustrated with the intentions of being a book illustration, rather than with the intentions of being used across all sorts of products, it was made with higher quality. I'd rather have a high quality illustration lifted from a book over a crappy, over-photoshopped, heavily airbrushed "original" image.

That art looks more like a lithograph compared to some art that's been released as of late for Disney Blu Ray's. It looks quite amazing and different and that's probably why I like it the most
