Floyd Norman made a new gag sketch for the occasion.

I wonder if that's meant to depict anyone in particular? Its not John or he'd have a Hawaiian shirt on.

And he always draws john in the appropriate body shape. This is just some random "exec".

I actually find it more bitter and depressing than funny.

Hahaha well! Is he NOT? Come on, Floyd is the definition of bitter when it comes to Disney now vs. Disney back in the Sleeping Beauty days. He's got some great insight and he's very nice, but he's definitely a "back in the good ole days" kinda guy.

I see it less as bitterness and more as honesty. His pictures are hilarious because they're true.

Floyd's critiques are gentle at most, and while I disagree with some, such as in this case, he has more credibility than many Golden Age cartoon enthusiasts who either didn't work at Disney, or don't even LIKE much of their work.

The world of animation is to a point where, even to an extreme, it can no longer be isolated from the rest of the world like in the days before e-mail, Internet, etc. While the replacement of directors might be common procedure, there just rarely seems to be any room for an auteur cartoon director. That is understandably leading to frustration towards a medium that already suffers from mainstream ghettoization; where every film must ALWAYS and ONLY appeal to kids and their families.

I'd probably term it as more wistful than bitter but like you say it stems from his nostalgia of the old days working for Walt and then under the Eisner/Wells management. From reading his blog it's pretty clear that he's not entirely fond of the current management of the company and he will take a not-so-subtle dig at them from time to time but that's understandable given that Floyd worked with the master and under the Eisner/Wells/Katzenberg leadership; if you were lucky enough to work at Disney during those periods you can't really be blamed for not being overly enamored with the current management.

Lasseter and Catmull pissing on the corpse of 2D animation is gentle?

I meant Floyd's critiques against Disney and Pixar. Where did that come from? :?

The release date for "The Good Dinosaur" has been moved to November 25, 2015
"The Good Dinosaur," which was to have hit theaters May 30, 2014, will now arrive Nov. 25, 2015
source: http://www.latimes.com/entertainment/mo ... 7398.story

It was probably for the best given the movie was going through production issues.

I wonder if a Pixar movie will come out in 2014 at this point

And no I don't count the sequel to Planes

Nope, no Pixar movie in 2014, first time since 2005. I guess this means the "Dia de los Muertos" movie won't come until 2017.

Looks like the tables have turned. WDAS now had a steadier pipeline than PIXAR.

I have a feeling there's some kind of power struggle going on behind the scenes. I think the fact that the critics have more or less written Pixar off has resulted in some kind of falling out with regards to the level of excellence they value.

History has shown that when quantity goes up, quality goes down... And with Lasseter overseeing three animation studios plus creative endeavors at the parks, it's clearly become too much to handle for one person. But I doubt his ego, or Disney's business structure, would allow for this to change any time soon.

Still, to be a fly on the wall. Would love to know what's going on.

It seems there will be two big Dinosaur films in 2015. The Good Dinosaur and Jurassic World aka Jurassic Park 4.

I will be seeing the former in theaters while the latter I hope I can find in a bargain pin at Target.

Well, that's a bummer, but that will be fine. I mean, I think Pixar really needs to take a break for once.

Yup, I just realized there will be a 2,5 year gap between MU and TGD. Their second biggest break after Toy Story - A Bug's Life.

Since Planes 2 is now Disney's only entry in summer 2014, I wonder how big of a promotional push they're going to give it. Planes did quite alright at the Box Office.
