Lady and The Tramp Diamond Edition Blu-Ray in 2012!

Preorders have been posted on Amazon.ca. They're listing a 2-Disc and a 3-Disc version on Blu-ray. I'm wondering what the difference is (although I wouldn't be surprised if it's just a digital copy).

Another thing I found peculiar is that the release date is FEBRUARY 7TH. This seems odd to me because the Spring Diamond release is usually in March. However, this may be so early so that Disney can cross-promote the movie with Valentine's Day.

Well, I'm HOPING the Blu-ray will have three discs (2 Blu-ray discs, one DVD). Maybe then they're not being TOO lazy that way.

Unlike a few certain Blu-ray releases we've got.

They changed the listing, it is indeed a digital copy

Seeing how Bambi came out in February in the UK, and LatT will come out in Jan in Brazil, Feb in Canada doesn't seem as odd. I hope you're right though and it'll get a worldwide release before V day

well the sideways titles are still horrible(no idea why disney still uses them and it seems that for the bluray of the lion king we will get them too for the first time ugh

)

but the pictures on the covers aren't bad... i mean the bluray cover looks a bit weird with the pizza guy in the back(as if he is a main character) and the characters positioned more in a corner (its a bit like they cut the old cover and pasted the characters oddly ) but but the dvd cover looks pretty decent to me

Ok, so near as I can tell, the following extras from the old 2 disc Platinum release WON'T be on the new Blu-ray. If I'm missing or off on one of these, some one please tell me!

I'm also pissed because once again the Blu-ray case is paired with a digital copy and hence it's more expensive. First Winnie the Pooh, now this!

I don't think you have anything to worry about, Blu-ray.com is listing 2 Blu-ray case editions:

Blu-ray/DVD/Digital copy (gold border)
Blu-ray/DVD (blue border)

Additionally there is a DVD/Blu-ray edition (silver border), which comes in a DVD case. Counting these and the DVD edition, looks like there will be 4 releases of this one title!

Folks that want to completely replace the DVD's of these films with the Blu-ray I find are out to dry most times. Just like "Lion King" or "Fantasia" before it you really need to hold on to both versions for the BEST possible collection. I don't see however how the Blu-ray is so much better then the DVD. I really think Disney does a great job of handicapping themselves here. Oh well, thanks goodness for the DVD's!

Perhaps Disney is just under the impression that the hard core collectors that care about the bonus features have the DVD's. They only see a point in placing new features on these releases instead of recycling older ones. Afterall, we have to admit that most people (including many of ourselves) buy the blu release for the film itself, not it's extras. It could be that Disney sees the older PE extras are somewhat dated as well.

I'm not really defending Disney in not created more and better extra features, but I don't find any use in crying over features I already own.

I'd buy into that notion except that bonus features have been one of the things Disney uses to get people to ditch DVD for Blu-ray, and now Blu-ray for Blu-ray 3D. It has been used in advertising as part of the list of reasons fans should go Blu. It seems to me, after putting so much energy into trying to sell people on how much more superior Blu-ray is, they'd do a better job of making that a full reality. People who just care about the movie alone buy DVD's still, like my brother. It's cheaper and why would you care about the extras normally found on Blu-ray's alone, if you hold that view anyway?

Odds are, folks that care about Hi Def are also going to care about extras. However,folks that care about extras are not necessarily going to care about Hi Def. That is why Disney has done a great job of stripping the various DVD releases down to nothing. I'll admit, the few Blu-ray's I've personally bought are becuase of extras. If it wasn't for that, I'd still be 100% DVD.

yeah, i see your point. I guess from my standpoint, I really enjoy blu-ray because visually I can see a difference between DVD and this. I also enjoy the overall package quality, which is a silly aesthetic thing i know.

I think recent ads for blu haven't really called on it for extra features though. When Blu was first introduced it was, but recently I think most of the advertising has been towards picture and sound, or towards the whole 3D aspect. Disney knows they aren't stacking these releases like they were even a year ago, and I don't think they're pulling anything on us either. We, as fans, just have expectations that aren't being met. If we look at what they are selling though, it's not like they are lying.

Whether we like it or not, this is how things are shaping up to be. At least we do have our older releases to fall back on, right?

^ I wouldn't care if these releases were crappy if it weren't for the insert in the Snow White case that said:

They made it seem like we were quite literally getting diamonds. So it's a joke when they try to pass off the release as "2-Disc" for including a DVD with every packaging. And now a digital copy to make it seem more amazing and "groundbreaking". And on the Lion King it says one of the bonus features is the Digital Restoration.. I thought that was a given but aparently we're lucky to even get them restored "before their original brilliance" Haha idk... they have some crack-head marketers
