This release is pretty...random. I thought the Masterpiece Edition was an excellent DVD already especially with the amazing picture quality. Alice in Wonderland is one of my top 5 all time favorite Disney Animated Classics...So while I think this whole re-release is just a way to cash in more from Tim Burton's Alice...I'm definitely going to pick it up and put it right next to my Masterpiece Edition ^.^ As for the cover I kind of like the older one just a little more...but the new one is nice too.

(I usually hate goofy edition names..but I love this "Un-Anniversary" Edition title!)

What are the new features on the new disc ? How is it different from the Masterpiece edition ?
Think about this. Once bread becomes toast, you can't make it back into bread.

Wouldn't be surprised if it's the same release from 6 years ago with more watered down extras.

All that's new is a deleted scene called "Pig and Pepper" and a restrospective featurette called "Reflections on Alice." The deleted scene runs three minutes and ten seconds and is introduced by John Musker and Ron Clements. The featurette's running time hasn't revealed, yet, but Matt, the webmaster of this vintage Alice in Wonderland merchandise blog said he was interviewed for the featurette. So I'm guessing this won't be so much of a "making of" featurette as it it'll be a tribute, kind of like the "Celebrating Dumbo" featurette. We don't know if anything significant's been dropped till we get our review copy, which Luke will probably cover.

Aren't the LDs (Laserdiscs) of Disney's movies loaded with bonus features. I seem to remember someone stating there's a lot of material in the LDs Disney could put into their DVDs instead of further watering it down with pointless features and games. The original Sleeping Beauty SP still makes me "Ughhh!!!" with the crappy pop music video and the juvenille extra features.

Yeah, Alice's LD had a ton of supplements that didn't make it to DVD, most of these being song demos. Here's the full list of what was on that set:

Yeah, sorry to say but Disney sucks with their DVDs. Crappy edits, bright colors, cramming **** that takes up disc space and watering down bonus features. Would it be that difficult to put ALL those features into the DVDs?

Aw, who am I kidding! Disney still has my $$$ in the end of the day

Sometimes I feel like hunting down a LD player and buying the movies that way.

Yea it always annoy the hell out of me when Disney's dvds(and maybe even blu rays) don't release out all the contents they claim they are.

In lion king dvd, all the deleted scenes they had was bug football and some other one. They never had any of the Feel the Love Tonight takes, or the alternate ending.

Same thing with HoND. absolutely no deleted scenes or any worthy content on the dvd that the laserdisc got.

It's like Disney was trying scam us.

It looks like I might be wrong about "Reflections on Alice;" it seems like it'll be a genuine "making of" featurette. Disney's released a clip from it on their site. Go to the clips menu on the bottom and scroll to the right. It's the one titled "Alice and Mad Hatter."

Just from this clip, I'm excited. I never knew Ed Wynn's performance in the film was extracted directly from his live-action peformance. I also didn't know that he recorded his lines after since I always figured the vocals came first, then the actors would peform the reference to what he recorded. I hope there's more meat where this came from. It's depressing how little I actually know about the production of my favorite Disney movie.

I think I am def gonna pass on this re-release of the 2-Disc Special Edition. To me it isn't enough to double dip yet again on this release! I have 2 DVD's of this movie, why do I need a third?!?! I would have LOVED a blu-ray version of the film! But that's just Disney for you! They gotta cash in on the bucks before they put some quality in anything now a days!!!! :x

So...what exactly is the point of this release? No Blu-Ray and hardly any added extras...

To cash cow, dear....Why else?

I wonder how difficult it would've been to transfer the LD extras to the DVDs of The Lion King and Alice in Wonderland. Must've been VERY difficult.

It's a treat for the European audience, which only got a lousy 1-disc the last time.

The menu has been posted at the usually reliable AMG. If this info is correct, the only thing dropped from the Masterpiece Edition is the 2 Sing-Along songs. At least there is no sign of "Blu-Ray is Suite" or "Take Your Movies On The Go", so nothing else got cut to make room for those!

http://www.allmovie.com/dvd/alice-in-wo ... 34843/menu

EDIT - I see Amazon is listing the 2 sing-alongs as being on the set so maybe this info is wrong.
"Feed the birds, tuppence a bag"- Mary Poppins
"How high does the sycamore grow? If you cut it down, then you'll never know"- Pocahontas
"I do not make films primarily for children. I make them for the child in all of us, whether he be six or sixty. Call the child innocence." - Walt Disney

I just noticed one of the "sneak peaks" is for The Black Cauldron Special Edition. Hopefully that's back on track for re-release this year.
