I feel like it was just a montage of all these action or high-powered scenes, and there's not really a storyline to go off of if you haven't read the books.
riple-posting here, but....

That's the way I feel. The only real forgiving factor is that this is more of a fan-trailer that will likely only play in front of Twilight. the REAL trailers will give us more plot. I complained about it on Mugglenet.

Yeah, while I agree that the trailer caters more to us book fans than the general audience, you have to understand that this is just a teaser. Teasers are meant to drum up interest and let you know something's coming. In other words, tease. The ones for the Harry Potter series have been pretty vague on story, too:

Sorcerer's Stone - Random montage set to Dumbledore reading the Hogwarts letter
Chamber of Secrets - Miscellaneous lines about the Chamber without explaining what it is
Prisoner of Azkaban - Random montage set to "Double Trouble"
Goblet of Fire - Probably the clearest of the teasers with Dumbledore explaining the Triwizard Tournament, though half of it is a walk down memory lane
Order of the Phoenix - Miscellaneous lines about Voldemort's army
Half-Blood Prince - Tom Riddle orphanage flashback

Out of the first six, I'd say SS and PoA's teasers are closest to DH's. They're more about showing you iconic moments than putting them in any sort of context. I expect the theatrical trailers for each respective part will tell us more about the hunt for the horcruxes and the Deathly Hallows themselves.

The only full theatrical trailer from 1-6 that didn't tell us squat about the film it was representing was Sorcerer's Stone. For that one, though, I'm pretty sure a final one was being worked on but couldn't be delivered in time. I remember just days before the film came out, a low-quality Brazilian trailer was released (in English) that was exactly what I was expecting: looks at most of the major setpieces while explaining the whole Snape/Stone plot. I've been unable to find that trailer on Youtube, though the super trailer for the whole series right before Half-Blood Prince came out borrows a lot from it.

yeah, the only difference between the DH trailer and the examples mentioned is that it's much, much longer.

Anyhow, could anyone help explain the part where the snake attacks Harry? What I mean is, the room is really bright. I paused it, and there are kid things in there. Was that in the book? It's just odd because I recall how I imagined the room, but I don't remember it being a kids room.
Ya, the Nagini attack seems to take place in a child's room. I don't know what's up with that, but it makes me think of a dream sequence that takes place in Harry's old room (maybe something to do with them visiting his house in Godric's Hollow before Bathilda's?)
In the book, it was in Bathilda's house, and I'm pretty sure it wasn't supposed to be a child's room. Maybe they changed that? But that would honestly be quite silly.

Oh, and OMFG!!! When I saw that trailer on Monday, I began crying. For real. It is the most epic, amazing, insane trailer I have ever seen in my life. I can hardly count down the days until November 19 and July 15, 2011. AH AH AH AH!!

And the poster is beautiful and amazing and speaks so much.

July 15th?

Okay, if anything has been consistent with HP, it's how the summer releases manage to narrowly avoid my Birthday. Slightly disappointing, if you ask me.

From what I've heard, the Nagini attack's been extended. Instead of her just attacking him at Bathilda's home, they break through several walls and end up in neighboring ones. If you watch the trailer frame by frame, you can see a giant hole in the wall behind them that leads to the darker, dingier home of Bathilda's. I guess that means in the film, she lives in an apartment complex instead of her own house.

So Deathly Hallows Part One was shown to the first test audience last week and we now have confirmation on the split (congrats to someone in this thread who correctly predicted it) and on what exactly part one holds.

I must say only one thing bothers me a lot, a few things annoy me slightly but I can live with them, other than that all the reports I've read sound excellent.

Is it November yet? :D

Yes, I'm glad they picked the spot they did. Ever since they announced the films would be split, that's the best place I could think of. There's a resolution to the Hallows v. Horcruxes topic, and it's a rather dramatic place to end the first film, with Dobby/whoever dying. And I can just see the scene of Voldemort blasting open Dumbledore's tomb--thankfully DD (Gambon) will be dead in the first half.

and the icing on the cake is that one of the mugglecasters(the same one who saw the HBP preview two years ago) got into an early screening of Part 1, and from the inside, that moment is epic. Highlighted below:

not only will voldemort get the most powerful wand, but there's a shot where he literally looks at dumbledore, like mere inches from his face that takes up the full frame(DD on the bottom half, V on top). Also, it gives them room to put more stuff in part two, like the rumor of a scene with Ron and Hermione in the COS combatting a tidal wave shaped like V's face in order to destroy Hufflepuff's Cup.

also, the Tale of the Three Brothers will be shown with some brief animation. probably the pan-across-moving-illustrations-in-a-storybook type animation that's not uncommon in telling tales that are background in their respective films.

Reading book 7 I got to the part where Harry is in Hogwarts, looking for Ron and Hermione and Harry has no idea where they are. Someone says, "bathroom" and I thought, "YES! Chamber of Secrets, here we come!" Then I was extremely disappointed Rowling did not include that part. :( But, it would be great if they added it into the film! Now that I think about it, I would love to see one stand-alone set from each of the other movies. (Most of these Rowling wrote in anyways.)

PS/SS - Dursleys, Diagon Alley (Gringotts), Hogwarts
COS - Chamber of Secrets
POA - Whomping Willow, Shrieking Shack, Hogsmeade, Clock Tower
GOF - This one is tough...Owlery?
OOTP - Ministry of Magic
HBP - Astronomy Tower

This.

I saw Dobby! I was so worried that they would cut him out like they did in the 4, 5, and 6 movies.

I think I'm going to need to re read this book before the movie comes out.

And if you go to the 48 second part of that trailer you'll see another character that makes a return in the 7th book from the 5th book. Dolores Umbridge

One of the Defense against the dark arts teachers who you just truly truly truly truly truly truly hated and continue to hate throughout the whole book...unlike Moody (though he was in a box the whole time but his eye saw what happened I suppose) and Remus Lupin....

which book is it where Gildroy Lockhart from book 2 made an appearance in a wizarding insanity ward but it wasnt azkaban....?

That is in Order of the Phoenix. They run into him when they go to visit Arthur Weasley in St. Mungo's. (The hospital)

After watching that awesome trailer, I've realized that I really need to reread the 7th book (I seriously don't think I've read it since it came out). Unfortunately, I probably won't have anytime until Christmas break. I'll put it on my to do list.

New Posters! They're HD so they may be a bit big.

Image

Red sparks are nice. Manyh people confuse it for blood spatter though!

Image

Note the Power Station. It was revealed in previews for the game and will likely be prominent in the movie.

Image

Blood n' Cuts. And another cityscape background.

I'd like to add that "nowhere is safe" is a very appropriate quote, as the trio is on the lam in this film.

Edit: huh, I wonder why they didnt show? Maybe they're too big?

Edit: fixed
