Cindy's general design was French Rococo, carried over in both sequels. Its original story was loosely based on the Charles Perrault "french" version.
The sequels were extensions of that story (C-3 the most extensive to date).

On that TV series movie for Hercules the narrator does say they got married in Thebes or something like that. Zeus is KIng of the gods, Hercules is is son; a prince. That makes Meg a princess by marriage. She just gets left out because her film is seen as a failure.

By the way, Esmeralda wouldn't be french. She is a gypsy and gypsies were a combination of northern african and russian blood. They were outcasts because they were seen as the "mutts" of Europe based on their breeding background of being a little bit of everything.

Hmm. Remind me the next time I go off of Disney t.v. shows for the status of the animated classic "princesses".

Of course, what I'm going to say isn't relevant to the Disney movie because they left out that part, but when you read the book, you find out that Esmeralda is very much French! :) (Not saying more, it's a rather big spoiler.)

Even without taking into account that the Hercules TV series says Hercules married Meg, do you really believe that any Disney couple that ends up together DOESN'T stay together? Good grief! Hercules even gave up his godhood for her and she gave her life for him. Do you honestly think they wouldn't get married? They stayed together. End of story. She's just not part of the line because the film is seen as a failure just like how Esmeralda was a princess and vanished.

I only go by what Disney tells us about their characters. Not the source material. Yes, I've read the book but the old woman is not in the Disney version so we cannot be accepted to stick with what the book says about Esmeralda's past. In the film she is designed very much like a gypsy. In the stage show she wanders into Paris, implying she could be from anywhere. I have more trouble accepting that Quasimodo is a gypsy. He has red hair and pail skin. What gypsy looks like that? Maybe he was a stolen baby for their freak show?

I've always thought about that. I mean you compare Quasi next to Esmerelda and they look nothing alike. Quasi looks more like Frollo than her, but never mind that. Actually it's quite possible that his father wasn't a gypsy at all. Anyway, on the subject of Esmerelda, she's not a princess. I've never even heard her stated as a princess for the Disney material. I can take Meg as a princess, but not Esmerelda. At least when it's official.

Well, don't forget that Esmeralda spends all her time outside in the sun while Quasi is stuck in Notre-Dame - that would explain the skin color differences at least a bit.

Just a little, although, technically, if both his parents were gypsies, he should still have a dark tone of skin and hair. Not pale and red. Then again, I believe all the other gypsies in the movie where paler than Esmerelda.

I had thought of Quasi's exclusion accounting for some pale-ness but red hair? In the opening both parents are dark skinned and dark haired. Having a Quasimodo the way he is shown is impossible.

Esmeralda was included in some Princess stuff in the late 90's along with Tinkerbell. I know for sure she was on a picture frame and I think she was a doll in the princess line. I don't count her as a princess either though.
