Timon/Pumbaa fan: After tons of terrific, joyful hours of seeing our choices for favorites of 2006, I'm honored to close this ceremony by presenting the biggest prize of the night: "Best Picture"(or "Best Film"). Now, this is the 3rd Movie and Media Awards ceremony we've done. While our "Best Film" nominees and winners may not be the same choices as say the Academy, but who cares? This is actually a great representation of what the general public feel are the true winners(even if the general public in this case are just hard-core Disney fans who own a computer), and is arguable a truer calculation of what deserves to be "Best Picture" nominees than what the Academy nominates. Now, while I can see why some people disagree with the choices, and I have to be honest and say I disagree with a few of the choices each year(this year, my main complaint was that a certain film about a certain secret agent with a certain three number initial which was completely robbed from this category), this is still an absolute blast of a ceremony and it's nice to see some of our favorite films get their fair dues. Favorite films of 2006 for UD members this year include Pixar's latest film about talking cars that go through all of life's problems a human has from worrying about competitive races to remembering beloved nostalgia. A musical in the vein of Chicago based on a 1981 Broadway musical loosely based on real life with a cast of big-star African-Americans. An installment of what has become one of Disney's biggest franchises to date, with innovating story and visual effects that have saved the U.S. box office by breaking almost all possible records out there. And finally, considering both of the previous winners have been superhero films, this year, we have two superhero films nominated from the two biggest comic book competitors out there: D.C. Comics and Marvel. Both happening to be two of the most popular superhero franchises from both as well. Five completely unique films, and are all great on some level. So without further adieu, the nominees for "Best Film" are:
Cars
Dreamgirls
Pirates of the Caribbean: Dead Man's Chest
Superman Returns
X-Men: The Last Stand
And the Golden Mickey for "Best Pic..." oh, I'm sorry, "Best Film" goes
