Does this picture provide us with some conclusive data concerning the OAR or F&TH?!? I am not sure, what does everyone think?

We all know that when the soundtrack is recorded, the picture is projected on a screen. Doesn't stand to reason that if this film was matted it would projected as such during the recording? This screen is big enough for CinemaScope (I think) so it could certainly fit a flat ratio. If the film is 1.33:1 during the recording, does it not stand to reason that the film was made this way?

Maybe the film was theatrically matted and it wasn't supposed to be that way. Or maybe another possibility is that somehow the picture didn't fill the whole piece of 35mm film. Maybe there were bars all the way around it on the film so that film could be matted and there were sort of black bars on the side of the picture. This would enable a theatre to project a 1.33:1 film. (The last suggestion is a result of hearing that by the 60's, theatres were no longer able to project 1.33:1 films.)

The picture DOES look like it's in a WIDESCREEN format. It defenitly doesn't look Fullscreen, that's for sure.

According to IMDB, the Cinematographic process used was spherical. Correct me if I'm wrong, but that would to my knowledge mean that it was filmed in 1.33:1, and then matted. IMDB also states that the intended aspect ratio is/was 1.75:1.

The same applies to alot of Disney animated movies from the 60's to the 80's.

Although the Disney organization is not exactly flawless, I think they've handled the aspect ratios of their animated titles well, so I tend to give them the benefit of the doubt here. Unless I get convincing documentation to the contrary, I guess the "full screen" DVD (and possibly other home video releases) of F&H gives us the whole picture.

On Page 6, I wrote: There's another "Music and More" bonus feature:

I'm guessing it will be Lucas Grabeel singing in a recording booth mixed with clips from the movie. Or they might put a little mnore effort and include a plo for the video since for Ashley Tisdale's Kiss the Girl video there is a small plot.

Adding on what Kram said, the song will probably be Best of Friends, since that is the most recognizable, IMO, song in the movie, and some other people, like Escapay, think that the other songs wouldn't be good for a music video

I hate it when they don't have an audio commentary. Oh well, at least there's a "Backstage Disney" feature.

Yeah, you could (probably) get Ollie Johnston & Glen Keane & whoever worked on the film, and I'm sure that John Canemaker, or Leonard Maltin would gladly do a commentary. Maybe Disney will surprise us! They usually don't list a commentary..... Interesting, very interesting

The sides of the screen are black. Only a portion of the screen is being utilized for the film. I tried to measure the frame on my screen with a ruler (not an easy task) and I believe I came out with a measurement that would equate a 1.33:1 ratio. Can someone try to check my measurements?

IMDB is not always accurate.

Actually, look closer. While the screen itself is a standard widescreen ratio (about 1.85:1), the film itself is abruptly cut off; it's not taking up the whole screen. So during recording sessions, it was shown in a 1.33:1 ratio, apparently.

As for this film not getting a commentary, I'm still so steamed about Cinderella that in my mind if THAT doesn't get a commentary, nothing else afterward deserves to, either (though I'm making an exception for The Little Mermaid).

ichabod wrote:Unfortunately it looks like I remembered it being a bit longer than it actually was! It's just over 6 minutes in length.
Still, it's six minutes of actual making-of material. Better than nothing. I'm guessing these six minutes replace the one-minute trailer...

And the five stills look impressive, so I can't wait for the other 35 or 45 (since you said 40 or 50, lol).

 I'm glad Bambi didn't have a music video, and it prefer it if none of them did. i find them such a complete waste of space!

What would you have had? Hilary Duff singing "Drip Drip Drop Little talentless tween star"?

I checked it in Photoshop. It's 1.66:1 exactly.

Correct me if I'm wrong (I'll have to go home and check my DVD now...), but wasn't the original theatrical trailer on the GC DVD of F&TH? Is anyone else upset by the lack of it as a special feature on this dvd? I feel like trailers from the 80s are a rarity and this is essential vintage material on ANY anniversary DVD.

Woops. I suppose I may have gone a bit too far, really. Perhaps I should contain myself to self-indulgent verbiage.

I wouldn't want to "Hulk up" now....you don't want to see me angry.
