A reaction and description of the footage that is shown at Disney California, in the 4D theatre.
Isn't that what we all thought that the leaked screenplay was a fake?taei wrote:

Fair enough, though I still think that this movie will pull a 180 on us and by the third act (mainly the final fight), Maleficent will become the evil character you all know and love. But we'll wait and see.taei wrote:I wouldn't know... I honestly can't tell you whether the movie will be good or not, I'm just gonna say that I personally won't like it if Maleficent basically becomes a motherly character who's source of evilness is scorned by love.
I just think it's terrible, cliche, and disrespectful to whoever wrote the original Maleficent character.
As much as I would love to believe that........Musical Master wrote: Fair enough, though I still think that this movie will pull a 180 on us and by the third act, Maleficent will be the evil character you all know and love. But we'll wait and see.
I think that's pretty much the point of making the film. You're right--we'll see. = )Musical Master wrote: Fair enough, though I still think that this movie will pull a 180 on us and by the third act (mainly the final fight), Maleficent will become the evil character you all know and love.
If there's anything that Wreck it Ralph and Frozen has shown me is that they have brought the "180 twist" to Disney when it's been there at Pixar for years; and I think that trend might actually go with the live-action films in different ways (due to how popular it's getting). As for Elsa's change I still think that Jennifer Lee was having problems with that character and it was causing an issue with the story both Buck and Lee had in mind, untill Let it Go got written and basically changed her into the character we all know and undoubtly love; I highly doubt that was a move by Disney executives.taei wrote:As much as I would love to believe that........Musical Master wrote: Fair enough, though I still think that this movie will pull a 180 on us and by the third act, Maleficent will be the evil character you all know and love. I just can't see Disney going that way.
I don't think they're confident to have the main character, who you're supposed to sympathize with, turn evil.
Heck, a part of me still thinks that the reason why Elsa's character was changed was because Disney knew how many parents would be complaining and how the little girls will start turning evil cause they liked her.
Right on!Fflewduur wrote:I think that's pretty much the point of making the film. Have you forgotten that moment in the trailers where Stefan's knights get attacked by Maleficent because of her magic and she looks like she wickedly enjoys it. Plus it seems that, from my guessing, that the wolf like creature in one of the tv spots must be Diaval attacking the knights with Maleficent in that same scene.Disney Duster wrote:But Maleficent still isn't evil during the parts of the original film where she was evil, i.e., the entire dang movie. If she's not evil until the end...that still robs us of The Mistress of All Evil that cursed a baby and did, well, everything in the original movie she did.
From what I know, most of those battle scenes actually take place early on and are under Henry, who is obsessed with robbing the Moors of its resources.Have you forgotten that moment in the trailers where Stefan's knights get attacked by Maleficent because of her magic
The first assessment is correct. Not so much the latter half.Plus it seems that, from my guessing, that the wolf like creature in one of the tv spots must be Diaval attacking the knights with Maleficent in that same scene.
Care to share on what that magical moment was that was in the novelization?bradk wrote:the leaked script is certainly not fake. if it's fake, both the published novelizations are fake despite the massive differences because the key plot points remained the same. the changes were made to accentuate the plot points.
I saw the in-park preview today and to respond to an earlier comment as well as my own, yes, the primary scene shown was the christening scene but there is NOTHING to suggest it's the first scene in the film. When someone suggested that, I expected to see opening titles, but really this is just showing a key scene in the film that everyone can connect with going in knowing nothing about the new film. In any case, I disagree with my earlier self suggesting that I could see it opening the film. It would actually be a mistake because there is no awareness of the three fairies who basically initiate that scene. There's just no context to them if that was the first scene. Also Thistlewit is terrifying to look at and I will have nightmares.
As far as comparing the scene to the novelizations, with one minor exception (and that might even have been an editing trick), it was pretty dead on.
On the whole, the film definitely looks beautiful. There is one moment shown in the preview that when I read it in the novelization I consciously thought to myself there is no way they could make that happen in the film and they absolutely did. It was magical (all 2 seconds of it).
Look at the outfit that Maleficent is wearing in that moment she uses her magic to attack the knights, it's her winter outfit she wears when she meets Aurora as a 15 year old. That scene has got to be after Stefan rips Maleficent's wings off. Plus those knights did look the same if you look at both those moments together (both Maleficent's attack and Diaval as a wolf attack).bradk wrote:Having read the novelizations....

I'll have to rewatch the stuff and re-read the passages, but the scene with the wolf is part of something much smaller. This I am certain. and Diaval does not like being a wolf. at all..Musical Master wrote:bradk wrote:the leaked script is certainly not fake. if it's fake, both the published novelizations are fake despite the massive differences because the key plot points remained the same. the changes were made to accentuate the plot points.

There's just no context to them if that When Maleficent puts a spell on Aurora to put her to sleep so she can bring her into the Moors for the first time, Aurora floats in the air as she's guided along. Maleficent basically drops her to the ground to awaken her, but it's not a hard fall, Aurora just seamlessly lands softly and peacefully into the grass (which 'breaks her fall') so it appears she was sleeping on it all along before she awakes. It's definitely more of a visual thing.

Sheesh, talk about leaving kids in suspense!bradk wrote:to be honest I'm not sure I remember reading many live action. I do remember reading POTC4, but that sucker cuts off right in the middle of the film.
Here you go.bradk wrote:Yes, well as I mentioned before, there's a strong necessary lead time for the novelizations so they can coincide with the release (or a month before the release really) and film editing can come right down to the wire. And there's always a chance there could be a twist or two between the novelization and the film, but it's not really in the spirit of creating a novelization with false leads (of course, cutting it off in the middle ain't too great either). But time will tell.
Can you tell me exactly where you see the wolf and the other stuff? I'm checking the trailer 3 and featurette and not seeing it.
I should have said "cursed a baby to die" and what you're saying still doesn't make Maleficent the Mistress of All Evil during all the scenes from the original animated film. She's fighting in defense, not because she's evil.Musical Master wrote:Have you forgotten that moment in the trailers where Stefan's knights get attacked by Maleficent because of her magic and she looks like she wickedly enjoys it. Her face looks like she enjoys attacking the guards in that one shot in the trailer, but I can see what you're saying.Disney Duster wrote:I should have said "cursed a baby to die" and what you're saying still doesn't make Maleficent the Mistress of All Evil during all the scenes from the original animated film.
