No other actor has been announced by Disney aside from Halle Bailey but it's safe to assume the names the trades revealed (except for Harry Styles, of course) are a done deal. Trades don't usually reveal casting news unless they're in advanced stages.
Disney's Divinity wrote:They could be re-working the "If Only" Quartet and its reprise.
They're not going to use any of the Broadway songs. That I guarantee.
Disney's Divinity wrote:I doubt Triton's going to have a big solo.
Maybe a duet with Ariel or Ursula then or a part in an ensemble song? The latter is much more plausible.

Supposedly, Ariel's sisters aren't going to appear in the film.
Q: Has anything changed regarding Ariel's sisters for the movie? Are they in it or still no?

Skyler Shuler: Where did this rumor come from? They weren't confirmed to appear to begin with. I know a lot about this film and the sisters aren't in it as far as I've heard.

Q: Does Disney have The Little Mermaid cast ready besides Eric?

Skyler Shuler: No, they are still casting Flotsam and Jetsam, Chef Louis, Carlotta, and Grimsby.

It will be quite disappointing if they don't use "if Only" as a duet and "Beyond My Wildest Dreams" at least. So many other, bad things they're apparently taking from the Broadway show, they could at least take the (few) good things.

Probably. I mean, those are the only times he sings in the Broadway show, too.

Jonah Hauer-King is Prince Eric

https://www.hollywoodreporter.com/heat- ... rce=Direct

Don’t know his work, but he’s pretty. Very pretty. Cute dimples. Dreamy eyes. I’m satisfied.

I am disappointed that Disney only looked at white men for the role. I wish they had approached the film’s casting with a sincere and deliberate effort to embrace diversity.

EDIT: Here’s him singing Hallelujah. I hope they write a duet for him and Halle because I’d love to hear their voices together. https://youtu.be/BzOOyCfvhCw

I've seen him in the recent BBC adaptation of Howard's End with Hayley Atwell but he had a bit appearance in it.

Eh. He's not as cute as many of the other names floated, but it'll do.

Silly idea not to have any sisters. Who's going to rule after Triton dies if his only child is on land?

Oh look all insiders were wrong once again. Either they don't really know much about this movie or Disney is producing this just to spite them

Wrong about what? Hauer-King isn't going to be Eric after all?

They mean that Jonah (an appropriately nautical name come to think of it) wasn’t one of the names thrown out by the Disney rumor mills. Which I think is slightly unfair because nobody ever purported to have a complete list of names in the running nor that anybody was a front-runner for the role after Styles dropped out. Just because Hauer-Knight was cast doesn’t mean that the other actors didn’t audition— in fact, he definitely seems to fit within the “type” of most of the other actors who were rumored.

I don’t even know who Jonah Hauer-King is, which makes the casting exciting for me. I too wish they hired a person of color for Eric. Don't even get why there's a black Ariel since they made Eric look the same.

Removing Ariel's sisters is definitely weird. Maybe they feel that audiences wouldn't accept them having bit roles in the film and expanding their roles doesn't suit the narrative so it's better to remove them. I hope the real reason isn't that Disney doesn't want to or is having difficulty casting six other young black women.

I remember reading that his name was in the running sometime earlier and I'm pretty sure it was posted here as well. So there was speculation about his casting.

Never thought of that, and agreed.

Well the Ariel hater I know will have even more ammunition to loathe her for "ditching her responsibilities" when she's an only child. :D

I will be honest. I never liked Ariel having sisters. It always felt unnecessary and they are in the film so little that they are forgotten about immediately.

Removing the sisters makes sense narratively because it makes Triton’s overprotection realistic and also gives even more reason for him to be so if she’s his ONLY daughter. He loses her, he loses everything. And I think dramatically that really makes for a better story.

It was actually. Deadline reported it in September and was posted here as well.

Maybe she will have sisters who just won't appear on screen. It could be explained by saying her sisters have already assumed their responsibilities ruling the seven seas and that's why they aren't home.

Making for a better story is highly important, but there are certain original source details you don't mess with!

I hope so, because Ariel having no sisters will make her actions even more selfish than she is in the animated film.

Well, hell if I knew what rodrigo_ca meant then. Or perhaps they were just as confused as me with all the names coming out— I didn’t recognize any of them so most of them went out of my head as soon as I read them.

I wonder if another reason they’re eliminating the sisters is because of technical difficulties. I mean, in the original film they are barely characterized so why waste money and time filming 6 additional bodies for what’s going to be a very difficult and challenging shoot?

I don’t like the change. I love Ariel’s sisters and I love watching the mermaids swim and gracefully move their bodies. I was looking forward to seeing that translated into a new medium. It’s a change which strengthens Triton’s character but seems to weaken Ariel’s. If she’s the heir to the throne, what happens when she up’s and leaves? Somebody should send her a copy of The Crown, stat. “It is your duty!”
