Exactly! And even if the jokes are a little dated (like the Clark Gable reference in "Dumbo," and pretty much every single joke in "Aladdin"), the heart of the film still comes through generations into the future. That's the true measure. As long as that heart at the core is strong enough, it doesn't matter if some of the sidekicks are silly, or if pop culture references are made. It's that center that shines through. :)

Didn't many old-school animators say that the 90's films were lacking the Disney magic? It's not really surprising to hear the same thing about an upcoming film.

As an FYI, not saying that Disney fans are narrow minded and that the older films aren't beloved. What I am saying is that each Disney film is a reflection of the era it was made. Snow White was perfect for its era, Cinderella was perfect for its era, 101 Dalmatians was perfect for its era. All of these films are great in their own accord. Meanwhile, movies like Fantasia and Alice in Wonderland took a while to find their right audience and thus find value.

Of course fans will enjoy the older movies. Of course older fans will enjoy the new movies. What I am saying is to not be surprised if fans judge a movie according to standards set in the past.

Both my classic Disney friends and myself found the Fab 4 Disneys, including BATB and ALADDIN, were some of the best examples of "Broadway Play Animation" I've seen to date.
Their inspirations felt original - I didn't sense having "seen this before" in any of those shows.

Not true with the new stuff - it's lush and well executed, but to my old eyes showing a definite borrowing from earlier stuff and especially (as "Emperor's New Groove" did in spades - but originally and to great comic effect) the Chuck Jones school of animation.
IMHO Chuck does not need to be imitated.

I greatly respect Disney's (more directly, J. Lasseter's) drive to resuscitate high end 2.5 D animation, and wish PATF well.
2D isn't Ded yet!

I'm sure this was already mentioned: I'm watching a youtube video of Tiana's Showboat Jubilee. It occured to me that the Prince wear for Prince Naveen looks too medieval European (if you take out the green, his costume looks a little too much like Prince Phillip's). Wouldnt royalty wear (at least the men's) in the 1920s look a little more modern/contemporary...or am I just crazy?

Well, Maldonia is a fictional country. Maybe they're somewhat out-dated and not up-to-date with current trends. And Naveen's street clothes seem to be more 1920s.

This might be a spoiler so read it with caution...

The green outfit Naveen wears isn't actually his Maldonia clothing. After Tiana and Naveen transform at the Bayou they both wear magical, swamp inspired clothing. Tiana wears the green gown while Naveen wears the Prince of the swamp outfit. From what I understand, the outfits are tributes to classic fairy tale couples, hence why the outfits look more medieval than modern

Another thing, the other night I was watching the first five minutes and I noticed something... Young Tiana is wearing a paper tiara and a green dress. I believe this is foreshadowing that Tiana will become a princess, that she will meet Naveen as a GREEN frog, that she will turn into a GREEN frog and that by the end of the movie she will be wearing the green gown.

It's kind of cool how they added little details like that to the characters.

Good eye! I loved Princess Tiana's green gown from the pictures I have seen of the real-life character at Walt Disney World. I also saw 2 adorable girls dressed up as the Princess during Halloween this past weekend. I loved seeing the new Disney Princess out and about!

*sigh* but I dunno why they need to do that. I mean we basically get that this based on a fairy tale. And Enchanted has already taken us through the "fairy tale tribute" route. It would just seem redundant now to make everyone wear the same things in the same style for every film, but seeing that everything else in the film is completely original and outside of the normal realms of Disney fairy tale storytelling, I guess I can give this a free pass.

Just wanted to share...I went to Orlando this weekend and stayed at Seralargo, a hotel that is approved as a Disney hotel, but not technically owned by Disney. They had promo keys.

And yes, we got to keep them :)

I just watched it. I love how the animation of Louis when he says "queen of the bayou" looks so much like Madam Mim's "BOOOO!" moment from The Sword in the Stone.

Great video find Pap! I am the one to notice this of course but, they shouldn't use that horse around fireworks. The moment they started going off, he was spooking. Did you see the person holding his reins and halter? That's pretty damn scary. You'd think they would have a horse that was not so spooky with loud noises.

Wow! That was pretty cool! :) The Mardi Gras-colored costumes were all very nice, especially! I do wish that they had varied the soundtrack a little bit, though...

I noticed the horse as well. I too was surprised that they had a horse around fireworks. Luckily they seemed to have been trained enough to handle a scared horse, but it could have easily put the actors, the performers and the guests in danger.

I've seen many a spooked horse, and it can be a VERY scary thing :(.

Granted, you can train and condition a horse to be use to the loud noises. Look at police horses in New York for instance. Its rare for them to spook. It obvious to me, that is probably one of the carriage horses they use for Main Street now and then, which is a daytime thing. And it seems they were actually ready for this horse to spook, having that one guy strategically placed there. And if that is true, that is very poor horsemanship on Disney's part, if they know the horse is gonna get scared and have someone there to try and hold back a 2000 pound scared animal. It was VERY dangerous. The horse is probably use to the crowd, music and costumes, but the moment the fireworks took off it, was ready to bolt.

Moving right along, here's a video of the Princess and the Frog segment from Disney On Ice: Celebrations:
<object width="425" height="344"><param name="movie" value="http://www.youtube.com/v/YdhlgBc5GxY&hl ... ram><param name="allowFullScreen" value="true"></param><param name="allowscriptaccess" value="always"></param><embed src="http://www.youtube.com/v/YdhlgBc5GxY&hl=en&fs=1&" type="application/x-shockwave-flash" allowscriptaccess="always" allowfullscreen="true" width="425" height="344"></embed></object>

And one of Tiana and Naveen on the finale:

And one of Tiana and Naveen, and the rest of the Disney Princes and Princesses performing "That's How You Know" from "Enchanted":
