I feel like this new cover is way too similar to the Snow White Collector Book Edition from last year for it to NOT be a release of the same type.
AKA I'm kind of thinking that this will be revealed to be the collector's edition release and the steelbook may possibly have a different cover.
The Snow White collector's edition must the sold poorly. Perhaps they will do a collector's edition for the overseas market like they have done in the past for certain DACs?

I still have The Jungle Book and 101 Dalmations in their collector's editions, wonder how much they would go for...
EDIT: Not very much since they are both sold for £17.99 from Amazon.co.uk!

Surprisingly most of the out of print Platinum titles seem to sell for decent second hand prices on amazon and amazon UK.
You know, if the 2010 3D trailer's colors will be used for the movie's restoration, then I'm cool with it. Mainly because although the picture's brighter, the colors look much closer to the original.

Maybe this is because of the "3d-thing" that doesn't work well without the glasses?
I hope the dvd/blu ray version will look more natural.
Yeah, I've explained this before but they actually made new computer generated models of all the characters and they're just projecting the hand-drawn images on the models. It's really quite a cool effect.
Also, the video was posted a while back. To my eyes, the colors look worse as Belle's hair is even redder.
This is the problem with CAPS films - they're more open to editing as time goes on. At least when films are restored from original negatives, the colour timing is just corrected to RGB and compensated for any dye fade. With these CAPS films, Disney are in the habit of 'enhancing' them, which merely replaces the original intent. It may look brighter, but that doesn't mean its any better.
By the way, does anyone know what the 'Book Packaging' edition is on Play.com?

I hope that means a Collector's Edition with the book just like Snow White. I'd be sooo happy.
If that video is to be believed, it looks like they moved the yellows and oranges closer to green in the color pallet. Not a fan of that at all. Sad to say I think I prefer the dvd colors in a lot of these shots.
I think it looks far less natural - its obvious they've been playing around with the colour palettes. The most obvious example is Belles skin tone on the close up shot. Whereas the 2002 version looks warm and reflects the lighting of the ball room, the new version looks too cold and unrealistic for the lighting conditions.
Overall, its just over-saturated. You can quite easily put too much color into film, and this is a perfect example. I'm just hoping that, because the product contains '3 versions' of the film, I'll still be able to watch the 2002 version in HD.

Wouldn't it make more sense for the CAPS movies to have their colors look 'correct' since they're already in the computer, and no restoration needs to be done? Whereas, with actual restoration, small differences can always happen, since the Technicolor colors are difficult to get right (no dye fade with Technicolor, by the way). Also, and this has been mentioned a lot, Disney rarely uses the new version for promotional ends, so we don't know what the new Blu-ray/DVD will look like, and it's useless to predict.
In that case then, since both the 2002 and 2010 versions have come from digital masters, they should be literally 95% the same with only the Blu-Ray tech attributes enhancing the colour slightly. The only reason the VHS looks so poor is because the the limited fidelity - it was exactly the same with Toy Story too.
That was pretty much uncalled for. If you're not going to be mature enough to write a constructive criticism (with descent spelling), please don't reply
I had mentioned about a year ago that I saw a preview of the 3D version of Beauty and the Beast at the D23 Expo and that when I saw it the colors appeared to be the same as the Platinum Edition. That was with the 3D glasses on, which obviously darken the colors. So it makes sense that the colors shown in the video for the 3D version are even brighter than the Platinum Edition, but trust me. When you see it with the glasses, they look about the same.
Also to those who liked last year's Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs with the book box set, Disney Movie Club has pretty much the same thing for Beauty and the Beast as a club exclusive. It's up for pre-order Here.
