Yeah, but would any of them see THE LITTLE MERMAID over say, STAR WARS or STAR TREK?

Didn't think so.
It depends on the man and his personal taste.

True but the point was that not all boys and men hate feminine Disney movies.

All this is freaking aggravating lately. Iger said (circa March of this year) they weren't developing any 2D films at the moment, but by the time a majority of 2D animators were laid off a month later, we've come to terms that he lied. All he cares about is turning Disney into a piggy bank like a certain ***** we all know that said that they only cared about the money and not making art.

It's people like Iger that are the reason hand-drawn animation is a dying art. And you know what? I hope he ends up flushing his career down the toilet with one single horrible act AND that Frozen fails financially and critically!

And Wade, if you go and act like a hypocrite by saying that I'm the immature one whereas you just post reaction vids saying you want Iger arrested for something other than anything Disney related... Just don't do it.

... Okay, I'm done venting for now.

Moderator's note: As stated in the rules, please do not use hate speech of any kind.

Sorry, I'm just feeling very aggravated lately. However, what I'd like to know is how the hell I got in trouble for that while you guys let slide mine and Wade's occasional "ill will" on Iger.

I cannot speak for the other situations you mention, but the language in this specific post was clearly unacceptable. I've personally been very busy as of late and can't possibly catch everything, and many of the actions taken on such posts are based on member reports. Please keep in mind that the moderators work strictly on a volunteer basis and do their very best to be fair and civil with their enforcement of the rules. If you have an issue with how things are handled, feel free to either contact Luke directly or start a thread specifically about it in the Feedback section. Frankly, I'd rather not see "ill will" targeted towards anyone.

Thank you all for listening and let's get this thread back on-topic where it belongs. :)

Thank God, that wasn't me who said any hate speech on Iger or Eisner. Anyway, I'm sure someday Disney will go back to 2D animation again. In the meantime, we have to enjoy Frozen, Big Hero 6, and etc.

Question 1: Is Moana going to be in ordinary CG or will it be a hybrid like Paperman? Are there any projects at Disney, whether it's features or shorts, that will employ the Paperman technique?

Question 2: I've heard a rumor that WDAS will be cutting back on 2D shorts as well. Their last fully hand drawn short was The Ballad of Nessie in 2011. Does that rumor hold any water? Are there currently any 2D shorts in the works?
Steve Hulett: When last I checked, "Moana" was a feature that would have hand-drawn elements/characters in it but would LOOK like a CG feature. This was a long while ago and I haven't paid attention since.

Regarding hand-drawn shorts, I think if somebody comes up with a hand-drawn idea that grabs Mr. Lasseter, they would do one (or more.) I believe corporate thinking is that hand-drawn product doesn't make much money, so why do that format? (This doesn't apply to television animation. Management seems aware that on the small-screen, doing half-hours in CG doesn't necessarily goose ratings. Which is why you see a lot of hand-drawn product/flash animation* stuff on your television.

* I'm informed that "South Park" is done with Maya. So "hand-drawn" is not necessarily drawn by hand. And "CG animation" sometimes look like something other than CG animation of the "Toy Story" variety.
I'm still confused by the "2D that looks like CG." So it's a different execution of the Paperman technique or something?

Hello? Disney is a business. If you want fine art, go to a museum.

I think that if Disney sees that 2-D hand drawn animation is still profitable and that it will ever make a comeback again, they should find new artists who can find a new way of doing this art form much like how Keane, Deja, Henn, Goldberg, and many others have done years before.

Yes Lassater's management has been very, VERY iffy but honestly, I would rather watch the Disney films of this era than the low quality era of the 2000's (Except for Lilo and Stitch).

We can hope, my friend. We can hope. I still like Fantasia 200, Emperor's New Groove, Atlantis, Treasure Planet, Brother Bear, and Home on the Range. Dinosaur is all right, but it's my least favorite.

The only good thing about Fantasia 2000 is the Firebird Suite, and that's about it. Atlantis, Treasure Planet, Brother Bear and Home on The Range are from dissapointing to downright terrible at most.

Rhapsody in Blue is superior to every other sequence in Fantasia 2000, especially the melodramatic Firebird Suite...
