My bad, I typed the wrong classic

Pip is so a reference to Abu, especially in the "real" world where, like Abu you can make out some words but he uses mime (plus the way he impersonates Giselle like Abu did Jasmine).

I also think the way Giselle stabs the dragons tale may be a slight homage to the way Aladdin stabbed snake Jafar (ok that may be reaching but it's possible).

I saw this movie yesterday at 1:45. It was.

I had always had been concernced about how good this movie would be. At first I thought it was a parody of Disney, then I thought it was a move chocked full of Disney refrences, and I was afraid the refrences would be overbareing. I can't tell you how much I was surprised that this was an earnest movie that refrenced Disney a little. I loved it!

Let's start at the beginning (a very good place to start). The logo and intro to the movie was fantastic. I loved how we entered the castle and found the book. Julie was terrific as always, but I could have done with out the pop-up book. The animation was beautiful. It was the first time I had seen traditional animation on the big screen since the 90s. I felt the beginning was a bit rushed, and I would have loved more animation, but it was very good, anyway.

Giselle's transformation into a "real-live" human being was very cool. One of my favorite parts. When she finds herself "real" is also great, too. Amy Adams is an amazing actress. I was surprised to see Jodi's role. I expected a shy secretary who only gets seen for five seconds, but it was a lot different than that. It's the first time I've ever seen Jodi play a character like that, and I loved it!

I was afraid the Prince Edward would be a total airhead, and he wasn't! The only instance I can think of him being mildly airheadish was when he didn't know what a word was. I forget what it was know, but still.

The songs were terrific! I really loved them. I don't know their proper names, but the one that went "How Does She Know?" was fantastic!

I loved this movie, and when Disney releases it, it better have a fantastic 2-disc DVD.

Keira's role in "Atonement" is overshadowed by her costars; Angelina is over-exposed, Cate's Elizabeth is not-so-"golden," Halle's been upstaged by Benicio and Jodie's film might be too "Brave" for the pompous Academy of Arts and Sciences. And while Ebert's backing Ellen Page (Juno) and Marion Cotillard and Julie Christie have earned nothing but raves; the reality is that it's mid-October and not a single lead actress is assured a nomination for Best Actress in a Leading Role at the Academy Awards.

The obvious question is why? But the more important question is: (In a field this weak) can a surprise contender build enough buzz to make it into the final five? Since the surprise contender in question is former Oscar nominee Amy Adams, the answer is yes!

In case you don't know, Adams stars in the Disney Studios romance/fantasy/musical “Enchanted,” a November release with major box office potential co-starring Patrick Dempsey (Grey’s Anatomy), Susan Sarandon (Thelma and Louise), James Marsden (Hairspray) and narrated by Julie Andrews (The Sound of Music). Since “Enchanted” is a fantasy film, we can be sure the movie is far-fetched, but are Amy Adams’ chances realistic, or pure wishful thinking?

Pete Hammond, the newest addition to The Envelope, subscribes to the former hypothesis.

"Last weekend's first screening of Disney's Thanksgiving release "Enchanted," resulted in early critical huzzahs for the animated/live-action fantasy flick and immediate awards buzz for Amy Adams, a past nominee for "Junebug," who had not been on anyone's radar for this picture… Disney staffers seem (pleasantly) surprised that she is suddenly emerging on best actress lists. Or perhaps there are some pretty good poker players on Walt's Burbank lot playing the game of lowered expectations better than anyone else this season.”

Hollywood Elsewhere also seems to have jumped on Adams’ bandwagon. "Adams gives an incredibly complex, detailed performance that it makes the movie seem almost literary -- there is a scene when her character first feels anger that brings to mind John Milton. The movie will be gigantic and will make Adams a worldwide household name."

From Hammond to Wells, to Awards Daily; the combined pre-release buzz for “Enchanted” and Amy Adams in particular-has been stronger than anyone expected (especially for a relatively unknown actor in a Disney Pictures Release). Yet, this story seems vaguely familiar. In 2004, when critics called Johnny Depp’s performance in Disney’s “Pirates of the Caribbean: The Curse of the Black Pearl” Oscar-worthy, the idea of a meeting between Disney and Oscar was highly unlikely. But in fact, Disney has a long history with Oscar and Walt Disney himself holds the record for the most individual Oscar wins in the history of the awards.

Ultimately though, a combination of things will decide if Adams is offered a repeat invitation to the Academy Awards as nominee this year. First, she will have to be visible at the precursors, earning multiple nominations and at least a few wins. Second, critics will have to let the voting body of the Academy Awards know that Adams is the stand-out in “Enchanted.” Third, she will have to prove that she can sell a movie as its star, which means the movie will have to draw big bucks at the box office. Finally, she will have to edge out her comedy/musical competitors, which include, the very Oscar hungry Laura Linney (The Savages), newcomer Ellen Page (Juno), and Keri Russell for “Waitress.”

It's a long season and there's always room for surprises, what do you think are Amy Adams' chances of a second Oscar nod for Enchanted? Discuss it here!

Yes, it was mentioned in here earlier. Are you a newcommer here? If you are, welcome! Also, the troll's loincloth has pieces from Snow White's Cinderella's, Sleeping Beauty's, and Belle's dresses. Or at least supoosedly. I think it's all of their "rag" or "peasant" dresses, from what I saw. When I get the DVD I'll really be able to look!

Awesome find, akhenaten! We now finally have our official guide to all the references in the film (although the exhibit misses a few of the Disney films playing on the hotel TV).

Anyone notice that this shot is not in the film at all?

http://www.laughingplace.com/files/loti ... 8-0003.jpg

The newscaster interviews Giselle in the film, but not Nathaniel. My guess is this bit came before the Giselle interview since that's what causes Edward to leave the hotel.

Sorry that I repeated something that had already been posted - yeah I'm a newbie - although I've been reading the thread for months - finally decided to join - the pictures from the El Capitain are fantastic - great to know about all the refrences in the film. I'm looking forward to the DVD too - when I can zoom in on paused scenes to get a close look lol

I thought for a couple of seconds that the Giselle princess in the clip was actually Amy Adams - but it isnt - great look alike though.

Disney's Enchanted

Post by Disney Duster »

Well, this picture proves I was right: the troll's loincloth uses the "peasant" dresses from the princesses, not their fancier "princess" attire (but strangely, the pictures they use next to the troll have Snow White, Cinderella, and Belle in their princess dresses).

The front of the loincloth has sections for Snow White's earthy working rags and Belle's blue working dress. The back has sections for Briar Rose's peasant dress (although it looks brown instead of black and gray)and Cinderella's working rags.

And I think you can takes pictures with all the princesses, Ariel'sprince, because Giselle posed for a picture with a child and it looks like all the other princesses are doing the same.
