A lot of them are cinephiles and obsessed with picture quality. From what I can tell, the 4K edition is more air-brushed so all the grain is removed, whereas the Diamond Edition Blu-Ray still had some grain, albeit minimal. The colors are also changed in this new version. A major complaint I've heard is that Ariel's tail was always supposed to be blue-green, never completely green. The Diamond Edition Blu-Ray had Ariel's tail blue-green, which I remember was much praised back then for being more accurate to the original colors, whereas the new 4K Edition has her tail just green. Such as in page 28 of that same thread.

yeah I picked up the Target digibook today and I hate how they used Scuttle on the spine(like WTF?) Is it true that the gallery pics are the same ones already features on the new Illustrated classics book? b/c I plan to get that book anyway and the only reason I picked this up is for the art gallery, basically. Having it in 4k isn't a necessity for me as I have no idea when Ill ever get a 4k tv and Im not as nitpicky with colors unless its blatantly different like the overly brightened colors on the different B&TB blu-ray releases. And the storybook part of the digibook is probably the same one as the last digibook which I already have! Fortunately I haven't opened the disc yet so I could always return it.
Most of the gallery pics are in the Animated Classic book as well, but the gallery book is much smaller and the pictures are mostly thumbnail sized there as well, so keep that in mind. The color differences between the Diamond and Signature Editions are minimal, but the colors are brighter in the new one. Some people are complaining that Disney does this with all their animated features on Blu-Ray so that they look more recently made and because younger kids are so used to bright, saturated colors in CGI animated movies (something which people actually praised the Diamond Edition for because it wasn't brightened up like Beauty and the Beast for example). From what I've seen of the storybook, it's the same images as the last digibook and the regular storybook release although I don't know if they used the exact same selection of pics.
