They'd better submit it. I'm so happy Alan is back at WDAS! :D I'm so much more excited for the film now. I'm also glad the song is sung by Vanellope and Shank and not by the princesses. And that there's an end credits version too!

Edit: Sorry disneyprincess11 for posting the same press release, I've just noticed you had already posted it.

I'm glad Menken is back but I wish he wasn't going to be wasted on this movie. I find it laughable that Vanellope's song is being labeled a classic like Someday My Prince Will Come and Part of Your World.

The fimmakers talk about the princess scene.
“There are a lot of princesses that are from Disney movies that aren’t canonized Disney Princesses,” Director Rich Moore explained. “I don’t know how they’re chosen, I don’t know how it goes on. I think it’s kind of like the Vatican, smoke comes up the chimney and Moana is now a Disney Princess. So we decided we’re going to use the canonized group of princesses that are known as the Disney Princesses. Not that we don’t love Princess Leia and Kida and Meg and Esmerelda, but we decided we’re going to go with the official Disney Princesses.”

“Why isn’t Vanellope canon?,” co-Writer Pamela Ribon asked herself while approaching the scene. “She’s a princess, she’s a president, but I believe a gal can have more than one title and pull it off. That was just in the back of my mind and then when we started working on the movie… this is when we knew that we wanted a scene that was meta. As we’re talking about different parts of the internet, wouldn’t it be fun to have Disney sort of poking fun at itself a little bit?”

What's up with the CD cover? It's just the logo. That's so lazy and dull. I hope this doesn't become the norm for future WDAS soundtracks.

Merida also hasn't been announced for the Rock Candy line. They are probably future exclusives that can't be announced yet. I could see Merida being a Emerald City Comic Con Exclusive as they like the exclusives for that event to feature green.

I'm surprised the soundtrack cover isn't clustered with princesses. Surely that would sell more.

Confirmation that the final princess scene will be different from the ones shown at previous scrennings.
Q: Since the Princess sequence has been in the film since the very first screening, I was wondering if there were different versions of it or was the one we saw the definitive one?

Pamela Ribon: As the screenings have gone on over time and the story changed, the scene had to adjust in order to stay in the movie. Because there are some versions where I don’t know you necessarily need that princess scene anymore. We had to keep it, so we’ve been trying to make it work. So there are changes that will be a little different in the end than what you saw you in the today and the D23 Expo.

Best news ever! I can't believe it's been 8 years since he wrote music for a WDAS film. I sincerely hope Disney submits the song for Oscar consideration.

I'm glad Gadot will be singing too. Is the song a duet or does she just have a small part in it?
Indeed!   Welcome back, Alan.

I think the pop version will be Oscar-nominated because it's more relatable unlike the movie version, which is about a specific place. Like how Celine's full "How Does a Moment Last Forever" was sent in and how it was the pop "Remember Me" won the Oscar. But, at the end of the day, I think the Oscar will come between "I'll Never Love Again" from A Star is Born (which is a great movie, may I add) vs. Trip A Little Light Fantastic from Mary Poppins.

Whatever it is good or not, it will be a part with them in the Princess canon. That's what they meant. But, for the song to be compared with them through the music makes me very very excited for the song. That and the fact Vanellope gets a song. I never imagined her to be a singing princess though, but I won't complain. :D

Telling from the book, the second half of the scene is COMPLETELY rewritten. No Snow White glasses, no Jasmine being allergic to cats, Meeko being rabid. It's just literally the princesses telling Vanellope to sing. Not an exaggeration. I'll be so heartbroken if that's all the scene because the special connection Vanellope had with the princesses in the Expo scene is almost completely gone. Imperfect as it was, the princesses were laughing, being embarrassing to each other, telling each other secrets, just like a big sleepover. Vanellope saying that she loves to the girls because they are so different and crazy was the thing that made me lost it and I would hate for it to be gone for a segway to Vanellope's song, which is "Just stare at a bunch of water (yes, really) and sing." And it's weird that they showed the older versions at the expo, even though clearly they're hiding the song.

I like Julia Michaels. Yeah, I doubt this song will stand a chance at the Oscars up against ASiB.

At first I thought it was a placeholder. I think it's one of their worst. Maybe they wanted to design it in the style of the CD cover of the first film which was also only the logo, but the original movie's logo was at least more interesting and had Ralph in it.

Yeah, this year the category looks very competitive, so I don't want to get my hopes up, especially considering Alan was snubbed last year. Maybe the song is not even nominated. Anyway, that he's back at the studio is already a prize for me.

For some odd reason Disney is submitting the movie version "A Place Called Slaughter Race" sung by Sarah Silverman and cast instead of the end-credit pop version "In This Place" sung by Julia Michaels. Why are they doing that? Wouldn't the pop version have a better chance of getting nominated? :?

Pretty weird choice indeed. I wonder if the song is that good or they just want the original be recognized over a cover. But, will Disney seriously focus on BOTH movie songs? They completely smug Beauty and the Beast over Coco. Does the Academy or the company have a weird grunge with Alan Menken like Lasseter did? Newman beating Menken for the 2010 Oscar was def orchestrated by Lasseter. All we know they could be deliberately setting up for Alan to fail on purpose again.

The movie is in a month and we get our SECOND footage of Calhoun and Felix. Are they that small in the movie? We even haven’t seen real footage with them and the racers.

Agreed. I'm not holding my breath for a nomination either, especially since the amazing "Evermore" was snubbed last year. Him working on another WDAS project is already a win, in my book. Here's hoping this will lead to him writing another musical for them soon.

I think they are. Correct me if I'm wrong, but I believe the two only have a scene together; the one at their apartment where they become overwhelmed taking care of the racers. Then there's a scene of Felix alone with Ralph in a bar. I feel bad for their fans who waited so long to see them again.

This. And the fact Rich Moore came to him is wonderful. I'm just so mad how Lasseter treated him during Tangled.

Yeah, that is right from the book. Also, there should be a food fight scene with the kids according to some books, but I even doubt it's in. Count me as one of the fans. I'm pretty devastated that they were brush off under the bed, despite being the main characters from the last movie. And I was super excited about their story as well. I'm grateful for the princess and the song scenes, but one of those times could have easily be meant to them. I'm guessing where Vanellope's song is was supposed to be the food fight scene. I don't know why the directors are saying "They have a big role" when that's so far from the truth. I'm knocking on wood that there's a short for them in the home release a la Auntie Edna.

That would be a good opportunity to finally make a WIR short considering it's one of the few CG films of the Revival era that didn't get one. Maybe they'll take a deleted scene and turn it into a short like they did with Moana.

With all those articles online, plus all the books and products, it's hard for hard fans to avoid those informations and spoilers.
As I saw the movie already nearly a month ago, I am shocked that in fact, you don't have much surprises to discover at the end.
In another hand, I am glad we get those additional informations and visuals, but they would be much more well-received before they'll release the blu-ray/DVD rather than the film's release which still have one month left to wait in US!
Too much video promos, and the fact that now Disney also releases and reveal the work-in-progress of the story, behind-the-scenes and how much it evolved and changed (which is the case of every Disney movie for years now and I can say it's true for the 1st Princesses scene I saw twice before the final version), I have to admit that despite I enjoyed this sequel, I felt frustrated.
Frustrated about all we could have get in the movie : more screentime for every character especially.
It's the same issue in Big Hero 6 and Zootopia : lots of great memorable characters we want to spend more time with but...nope!
In fact, we barely see Knowsmore, Spamly, Big Dan and all the video games from the arcade and I still feel disappointed for Yesss who is so amazing but not very used at the level of her design and her skills to me. Shank has a decent screentime hopefully and she's so great.
It's all pretty cool wrapped though because we see each of them of course, but there are just too many characters, jokes, cameos, details and the story focuses on the two protagonists, which is probably better to have kind of a more solid storyline and plot but all those researches, ideas, amazing designs that we don't have time to appreciate or feel attached to.
This is only my personal point of view and I won't spoil the movie itself of course though I don't know what you all have with Alan Menken.
Sure he made so great memorable songs for Disney but I already forgot the one of Vanellope which was just very "Broadway-like" though it was a fun parody and that the french voice of Van did a great job (but you won't care for that, lol).
Sorry for my english! ;)

I'm thinking that Vanellope can go Turbo since Slaughter Race is an Internet, not an arcade, game? :?

And I just read the book and cd book and I cried at the last couple of pages. It's probably the least detailed of all the books, no princesses in it, but I think it's a strong story.
