carter1971 wrote:I see nothing wrong it. You bought the DVD so you should get the slipcover if you want it. As others have said, though, you should wait a day or two before returning it.

I wish Disney would just manufacture all the DVD's with covers or get rid of them completely. I don't go nuts over slipcovers, but I do prefer to have the entire product, and don't appreciate having to settle for less just because I don't always have to cash to buy a title as soon as it hits the shelf.
This entire post took the words right out of my mouth! Well said!

What really annoys me is how some places, like Best Buy, will take the slip covers off of a DVD when it goes on sale. I was all psyched to get Napoleon Dynamite at a great price one day (which HAD the slipcover in the advertisement), only to find the covers had been taken off all of them for the sale! And, those DVDs look ridiculous without their motion cover! They look like they're the DVD of a direct-to-video sequel called "Vote For Pedro!" I ended up passing on it. Still need that movie, and I love it!

I'm missing slipcovers for Pocahontas, Mary Poppins, Lion King 1 1/2, and Kronk's New Groove. Possibly one or two more. And, yeah, it really annoys me not to have them (or that some folks throw them away when they could have sent them to me). I will probably be missing more in the future, too, as I try to get the sequels that I have missed, like Fox and the Hound 2, or if I ever decide to get the lackluster rereleases of Fox and the Hound and Robin Hood. Plus, I do want to get the rerelease of Dumbo, but haven't yet.

Sadly, I can't use the plan from this thread to get the ones I've missed, as no local stores have those DVDs with slipcovers anymore. That's why I ended up buying them without.

Dang. I really need to get over my dislike of phones and call ASAP, then. I'm aching for Tarzan, Pocahontas, Alice in Wonderland, and Aladdin. To people who have called, what exactly do they ask? Like, what do you have to do?

Well, since there seems to be a 5 slipcover limit, and if you need more than 5, you could always get a friend or a relative with a different last name (in case they'd figure out that you and the relative are related) to call and get the others that you need. That's what I'm thinking about.

I'll admit, I really do care about having the slipcover lol. But as was mentioned before it's because I like to have the whole product as well.

I guess I can consider myself lucky because I was able to find Beauty and the Beast NEW at the Disney Store when I thought it was out of print. But even luckier I think was finding Pocahontas used (but in great condition) with slipcover and all the inserts at Blockbuster and then I found Sleeping Beauty used in great condition with the slipcover and everything at EB Games. Unfortunately the slipcover wasn't in mint condition but it's not a wreck either.
But the thing that makes Woody special, is he'll never give up on you... ever. He'll be there for you, no matter what.

I find the plan rather extreme....wouldn't it be easier to go up to the counter and ask if they had any in the back they don't want? I did that for my cousin, I just went up and asked if they had any leftover slipcovers for High School Musical and they just gave it to me. But my general reaction to slipcovers for Disney is "Ooooooooooo shiny" (I have a bad habit of being distracted by shiny things  ) Other than they make great coasters for my drinks when I'm at the computer :D

Except they're not going to hang around in the food hall for a couple of hours before taking it back. No, in Ocean's 13 they hang around in a Casino for a couple of hours before taking the DVD back and hanging onto their slipcover swag. And they do it 13 times, so everyone is happy and gets a Disney slipcover.

I hope Warner Bros, Soderberg, Clooney, Pitt et al sue the pants of you for copying their idea.
Haha. You're SO funny. If you MUST know, when I did a slipcover search for a previous thread, someone mentioned doing it before and how it worked for them.

I know what you mean. It makes no sense for the stores to throw them away, when they could include them with the DVDs. Some slipcovers make them look more appealing, especially to those who are not die-hard Disney fans like us UD-ers.

Like if someone (who was not a HUGE Disney fan) was browsing the shelves of Best Buy, and they saw the MWE of Robin Hood without the shiny slipcover they would be like "OMG, Robin Hood! It's one of my favorite Disney movies, but $19.99 looks a bit much at the time". But if they saw it with the slipcover, all shiny and stuff, they'd probably say "OMG, Robin Hood! It's one of my favorite Disney movies! Wow, look at this shiny cover, it must be a really special edition, and $20 must be a steal!" and they'd buy it. Am I crazy or does it make sense?

Anyways, (sorry for the long post!) back to slave2moonlight's post. Sometimes slipcovers matter to me and sometimes they don't. If they're not extremely special (as in shiny, open up like a book, etc.), then they matter. If they are just repeats of what is already on the jacket, then I don't care about them. Movies (Disney or not) that I am missing slipcovers for that I don't care I don't have are Kronk's New Groove, Fever Pitch, Taxi, Cheaper by the Dozen 2, and Click.

All slipcover lovers please read!

Post by potterrules93 »

the other day i was browsing the board and saw that if you call a 1800 number for disney, you could order slipcovers you need for free. so i called and was told that you can only get the slipcovers if yours is damaged. i think this is very unfair and that if we purchased the movie without a slipcover(which technically should be included in your purchase) and would like the slipcover, we should be able to get it. does anyone else agree with me??

I'm sure that many of the other members are aware of that rule, but I agree with you 1,000%. Maybe it has something to do with the fact that we both have the same first name!

On the other hand you have the choice to buy it or not..If you don't want to buy it w/o the slipcover then you don't have to..Can't blame
disney for everything..
