No, it means "now." There are hardware & software solutions available now for BD playback on PC. There's also a BD-ripping app out there somewhere. I don't anything about any of it myself, except that the stuff exists.Matt wrote:is that meaning a no? lolFflewduur wrote: Short answer: Now.

Yeah Blu-ray drives for your PC are getting a lot cheaper. $150 or so for the reader, and $300 to $400 for a burner.
Actually I just checked and Newegg.com has a LiteON Blu-ray drive right now with the Power DVD (Blu-ray edition) software for $139.99. You will need a monitor and a video card that supports HDCP for Blu-ray playback on a computer.

I'm surprised that nobody else has posted this, but while I was browsing through IMDB today, I came across a whole bunch of promo videos for the upcoming release.
Here's one that talks about sequence 8 and the art design of the film
http://www.imdb.com/video/screenplay/vi576520473/
Eyvind Earle and his artwork
http://www.imdb.com/video/screenplay/vi559743257/
Walt Disney and his storywork
http://www.imdb.com/video/screenplay/vi542966041/
Tony Baxter and Chris Merrit discussing the walk thru and giving us a peak at the Waltz of the Spinning Wheels scene
http://www.imdb.com/video/screenplay/vi794624281/
There's also 15 other videos there that show clips from the film.
Anyway, if these are any indication of what will be on the DVD, than I'm so incredibly excited for it. I'm amazed at all the Disney people and film critics they've gotten to speak for this, such as Floyd Norman, Burny Mattison, Don Bluth, and John Canemaker. And the virtual tour looks absolutely amazing from the clip they've shown of the spinning wheel. I can't wait to see it.
So now we know for certain from the diagram they showed, the walk thru on the DVD will follow this:
Scene 1 - Opening Storybook
2 - Burning of the Spinning Wheels
3 - Baby Cradle
4 - Aurora has pricked her finger
5 - Sleeping Banquet Hall
6 - Sleeping Aurora
7 - Meet Maleficent's Goons
8 - Demons flying to Stefan's Castle
9 - Maleficent's Shadow
10 - Maleficent Celebrates the Triumph of Evil
11 - Waltz of the Spinning Wheel
12 - Phillip Awakens Aurora
13 - ?
14 - Closing Storybook
So, that one scene I was unsure about, Phillip being locked in the cell, was probably an unused concept then that didn't make it into the attraction, like the sleeping minstrels. And I guess it confirms it that the Maleficent's Shadow scene was placed between the flying demons and the celebration scene.
Also, if the movie clips, are clips of the restoration of the film then it makes me even more excited. The colors are bold and stand out beautifully, but it's not quite as bright as the SE, which might be a good thing since the original film's look may have been darker than what the SE showed us.
Now I can't wait until October finally arrives.

Oh my gosh, fantastic find, PrincePhillipFan! Some notes:
1. So THAT's what sequence 8 is. Since it got its own classification on the BBFC site, this must be one of the isolated featurettes available only on the BD via Cine Explore.
2. Just from the brief clips we've seen, this documentary seems much more honest and upfront than the SE featurettes.
3. The walkthrough looks super cool from what we've seen. The Tony Baxter stuff looks mighty interesting, too, and this obviously was what he was talking about when he told me that he and his imagineers would be involved in a special way for this release.
4. Disney Duster was right: the reds really are the most striking thing in the restoration. In the SE, they're a flat fire engine color. Here they're a deep cherry shade.
5. I still prefer the blue dress, but the pink one is much nicer looking now. Here it's neither the blinding hot pink of the SE nor the powdery princess pink of the cliparts. It's a bold, rich shade that better matches the rest of the film.
6. They fixed a really annoying shot from the SE. During the Phillip vs Maleficent scene, it cuts to the fairies after the shield is blown away. In the SE, Merryweather is cut in half, which always bugged me. In this clip, she's whole again.
7. OMG, they actually managed to stabalize the shot of Phillip kissing Aurora, removing that distracting flickering. They also made her a blonde again (while still keeping true to the dark lighting of the room). It looks fantastic.
I love how smooth and bold this new restoration looks. The SE looks a lot harsher and paler by comparison, which is saying something considering how satisfied I was with it. The supplements really seem special, as well. I'm hoping to God that Disney keeps this up with their other animated classics on BD. I'll become a sobbing mess (in a good way) if Alice is given the same type of love and care for its rumored 2011 release.

Great stuff - I'm really looking forward to the special features, which seem quite extensive. And I'm reminded how marvelous that score is.
Interesting that Michael Barrier is being interviewed on the film, as, judging from 'Hollywood Cartoons' and 'The Animated Man' his opinion of the film is lower than mine.

I did some screencap comparisons of both restorations. Since the IMDb clips are in fullscreen, I decided to screencap the fullscreen transfer on the DVD for a more fair comparison. Even with that in mind, remember that since these are two separate restorations (and pan and scan jobs), the framing isn't always exact, especially since the newer version opens things up a bit more.
The 2003 Special Edition is on the left. The 2008 Platinum Edition is on the right.

For some reason, those screens make me excited. I'll probably end up buying this in the end. I'm such a sell-out.
I agree. The video was kind of stupid with the ugly "fairy-crap" dresses, but the cover itself was actually one of the better songs to come out of the Disneymania series.Matt wrote:ehhh, Personally I didn't think that the SE music video wasn't that bad!PeterPanfan wrote:It's been confirmed that Emily Osment will be singing Once Upon a Dream. Anything is better than the SE music video.

Listening to most often lately:
Taylor Swift ~ "Elizabeth Taylor"
Katy Perry ~ "bandaid"
Meghan Trainor ~ "Still Don't Care"

It was okay but... why they had to tell about the story? they kinda ruined it ("I danced with you once upon a dream"?),what's up with their dresses?.Matt wrote:ehhh, Personally I didn't think that the SE music video wasn't that bad!PeterPanfan wrote:It's been confirmed that Emily Osment will be singing Once Upon a Dream.
