Also, Stewie if ever you'd like to chat, feel free to drop in some time. I'm usually there sometimes, or you can just drop me an email. I don't have PM, since I registered later here and have no idea how to go about getting it.
I think that's a wonderful idea, Divinity. Since I started participating in my GLBT center here at school I've made tons of new friends, and enjoy participating in the activities that we organize. I find it very helpful and that I'm finally accepted somewhere to be who I am. Especially considering my college is settled in a fairly conservative farm area. I also find it very rewarding to help out, especially if we have a new person at the center and they need somebody to talk with like themselves. I really hope you have fun with it if you decide to join!Disney's Divinity wrote:Oh, and I'm finally transferring to a university next fall--and they have a gay rights club! I think I'll join the moment I walk on campus. Sounds like no big deal to you guys, but I'm kind of in an isolated Bible Belt area.

Aaron, I'm re-posting this because I still want to voice my opinion and the way I know many of us feel, but I've cleaned it up. I hope this won't be a problem.
It just still baffles me that in this day and age, people cannot just get over the fact that there are gay people living on this planet. And it's not like this is anything new, there's been homosexuality since friggin day 1, people! And, oh my god, they want equality? They want to be treated like normal human beings?? Who do they think they are?!?! I'm just sick of it. People, get over it. The world is not gonna end if there is someone out there who is different than you. Look all around! We are all different! Thank GOD for that! I'd go crazy if I was just like every other religious extremist in America.
How does who I sleep with have any affect what so ever on your life?! It's not like we're doing it in your bedroom! It's not as if when we get married, we're gonna honey moon in your living room! Why can't people just mind their own business?! I don't complain that people (in my opinion) waste their time going to church. For some people, it's a great way for them to get through life, with their faith. And you know what? I'm genuinely happy that they can make religion work for them. But you don't see me putting propositions and amendments on ballots to prevent them from going to church! You don't see me protesting their right to do whatever they want! So why do they feel the need to mess with me? To mess with my friends? To mess with us?! If they don't agree with same sex couples, then don't be with someone of the same sex. If they don't agree with same sex marriage, then don't marry someone of the same sex. It's really quite simple. Hell, I don't smoke. I HATE smoking with a passion. But if someone else wants to go ahead and smoke, then by all means, smoke your little heart out! Just don't do it near me and we'll be fine!
And don't even get me started on gay adoption! OH. MY. GOD. Why would you deprive a child of a family that wants to take in these poor children who were abandoned by these same damn heteros that are out there taking away my rights? I don't see you wanting to adopt them! If a stable, sane, loving family that is able to provide for a child in need financially and emotionally, why would you not let them have it?! Why does it matter if it's a mom and a dad, a mom and a mom, or a dad and a dad?! Hey, guess what! We're not gonna freaking molest the kid, we're not gonna force the kid to be gay. All that is so ridiculous.
I'm just so angry right now with everything that's going on from some results of election day, the way things are in this country, and some things that are going on in my personal life.
I wish people would just learn to LOVE each other. Don't devote your life to spreading HATE and DISCRIMINATION. There's enough of that on this planet as it is.

I love Siren!
*sigh* I wish this was the mentality of everyone else. And that is why I love ya Chris!! Anyways, I guess it's called the nay sayers having their cake, and eating it too (which is what I am going to be doing on Satuday yay
So, I completely understand how you feel Chris...it's just unfair. But I've kept thoughts and emotions about that particular topic hidden since well, I live with some "nay sayers" lol.
What really annoyed me were those bumber stickers that said "We wan't a mommy and a daddy!" Um hello people, a baby doesn't even know what a mommy or a daddy is yet. How could the poor child possibly know that they want one of each? Jiminy Crickets.
I was so happy, at work the other day, my uncle asked me if I was voting YES on 8...and I said no, he then said "Yeah I'm voting no too, people should be able to marry who they want, just aslong as they keep to themselves" Which surprised me, because the whole side of my Dads family is like 100% straight.

Thanks for cleaning that up, as I agree with your post! I know I'm probably preaching to the choir here, but I don't even understand why people are allowed to vote on who can and can't be married. If churches don't support gay marriage, that's fine, we won't get married in your church, but that doesn't give them the right to prevent other free citizens from living however they choose, not just how a majority of one religion decides they should. It's kind of ridiculus, considering the U.S. was founded on the separation of Church and State (because of similar problems in Britain), and yet people still see the government as a way to enforce their own values on everyone else.
I remember a particular commercial I liked where they showed the stupidity of this: they had a groom going from house to house on every street, asking people if he could marry his girlfriend. When I told my mom about it, she said, "Yeah, he can marry Sara, but he can't marry Steve!" and laughed. I can't describe how pissed I was at that moment.

Who Here is Gay?
Stewie, I hope you come to realize what you really want...and what's jk, in school grades?
Flam-Ham...well, everyone who's at a Disney forum is doing a "gay thing", anyway, and you've got Prince Edward in your avatar and showed Prince Phillip love. But anyway, I'm not saying every gay person acts the same, just that every gay person has things about them that are gay beyond who they want to have sex with.
Disney's Divinity, and EVERYONE, I am not saying that all guys like to pick flowers or dress up in girly clothes. I'm saying we all do some things like it, related, we all do things that are somehow gay. Look, all girls don't act the same, and neither do all gay guys, but they are similar to each other and do things like each other. It's like...every poodle is a dog, but not every dog is a poodle.
But I really don't like these "identifying with a women" or "acting like a girl" insinuations. What if that boy was only dressing like Marilyn because he wanted to look like a character he liked, not because he wanted specifically to look like a girl? We may identify with girls, but we don't identify ourselves as girls!
People have expanded their minds to accept that being attracted to boys, finding them cute, and wanting to do them isn't only for girls. Why can't we expand our minds more and accept that maybe certian mannerisms and clothing styles aren't only for girls, either?
So these observations that gay boys are acting like girls, not just the gayest gay guys, is plain wrong. Some girls are more feminine than others, but are still girls, which is why I always found it weird that some girls were called girlier than others...they're all real girls!
I came on here being happy that liking Disney princesses was no longer a girly thing, but a gay thing! I identified with these princess-loving guys like me. And I have no problem identifying myself as gay since the things I like happen to be very gay. But I'm not crazy about clothes and hair or do everything that's considered gay, and I realize that not everyone else has to either. But now denying that liking Disney princesses can be a gay thing, or saying that the things I like are girly, not gay, is getting kind of hurtful. I'm losing a place, a connection.
It's like...liking Disney princesses isn't just a gay thing, obviously, or little girls wouldn't like it, but it is a gay thing as well as a little girl thing. Oh, or maybe it's a little "girly" girl thing.
But it doesn't mean all gay guys do it either. I suppose it's hard to explain.
Divinity...so was that commercial to promote freedom for gay marriage? And then your mom opposes gay marriage? God, I'm sorry to hear that...! I thought with you she would accept it.

I agree with yous Chris and Divinity, the lack of separation of church and state is ridiculous, stupid and hilarious (to us non Americans) especially considering the first amendment to the US constitution. I suggest that you to move to Canada where for the most part government and churches do not get mixed up (except for public funding of catholic schools in some provinces), gays are allowed to marry everywhere and social conservative values are not really stupidly present (no one has to say "God bless Canada" after a speech).
and to Dusty, yes I do loves my Phillip and Edward and some of the animated features I love are "girly", in addition to me loving the live action musicals and Hocus Pocus (which only a woman or gay man could truly love), but I don't just focus on the Princesses or cute characters or Pooh and what not. It's not like if I told someone my Disney interests they'd say "are you gay?" right away.
Totally off topic, but have you still not seen The Happiest Millionaire Tim?

Beautifully put, Chris. You expressed exactly how I feel on this issue. It just shocks me and makes me so sad that there are still people out there who still want to deny others who they love. I know many people along with me at the center are very aggravated by this decision, and I just don't understand why it's so hard for people to accept we're out there.
Relating to the topic, I came across this video today with MSNBC anchor Keith Olbermann expressng his thoughts. I think he wonderfully expressed it:

Who Here is Gay?
For the whole gay marriage topic, what I'm disturbed by and can't understand is that the new president's regime isn't making gay marriage legal, but if it was legal, it wouldn't infringe on anyone's rights, and yet with the same new president's regime, abortion, which (arguably) infringes on the rights of not yet born people, will try to be made legal.
We shouldn't call gay guys who act like many straight guys "straight acting" because they aren't straight, no straight guy is the same?
But we can't call them "manly" guys because they're all men!
And we can't call gay guys who act like most gay guys "gay acting" because they're all gay!
But we can call them "girly" because they're not girls, and not all girls act like that either!
Or we could just...suck it up...and face the fact...gay isn't just about liking the same sex, there's more they do that's gay!

Dusty, I get where you're coming from and you make good points, but don't call certain DAC "gay". I said "girly" because the are heavily marketed to girls (for all the wrong reasons of course). The films themselves have nothing to do with gayness, me liking them may be what makes me gay, but it is wrong to call those films gay just because alot of gay people may like them. Remember those films still deal with heterosexual love and are liked by those people too.

Also, calling certain DAC gay is something I expect some immature middle school punk to do Dusty, not someone who obviously cares about these films like I know you do.
And once again Scaps has shown use the words of wisdom on another issue. I suggest we from The Church of Scaps to learn more from this wise individual.

The word gay here is used in a different context, when it's used this way they mean Happy. So I think for Flanger to say Girly is rather acceptable since he could be using it in a different context as well just like gay is used in two ways. We're three caballeros
Three gay caballeros
They say we are birds of a feather
We're happy amigos
No matter where he goes
The one, two, and three goes
We're always together
So Gay = Gay/Homosexual and Happy depending on the context
and then Girly = Girl like, or Girly again depending on the context.
I bet some of the rules would beI suggest we from The Church of Scaps to learn more from this wise individual

Yeah I know I'm weird
Not weird, just awesome.
Anyway, I'm just throwing this out here...
Thomas Huxley was a well-known 19th century botanist who had a wife and eight kids, all of whom he was close and devoted to. And I'm sure he loved picking flowers as both a kid and an adult.
Barry Humphries is a well-known comedian and character actor, who's been happily married thrice with four children. But to most audiences, he is best known as Dame Edna Everage.

Re: Who Here is Gay?
I was talking about how things can simultaneously be one thing or the other. Like Aladdin is a princess film to many little girls but is also a comedy, or maybe a dramedy.
And you can talk about how other people picking flowers isn't gay, but be hypocritical and see when gay men dress in women's style clothing and make-up they're "girly", all you want, but you'll never change that that little boy got the hint he was gay from picking flowers. And that it's printed in a book for all to read.
