But personally, I don’t think either of those things. I’m actually looking forward to seeing the Teens in the movie because they sound quite fun (to me, at least) and as I said in my previous post, the Bashful-inspired one is already my favorite. I think someone also said in one of their posts that “The Teens” is a stupid name, but what other name can they really have if that’s what they are? I know some of you won’t agree with me, but I just wanted to give you all my two cents on the situation.
I’m also excited to see them, mostly because I love ensemble characters :D Just because it says they’re diverse doesn’t mean their race will be the defining thing about them. Their group name, “The Teens”, is kinda :P but ehh…fine by me. And just like what I said in my last posts, their designs are really good, it’s the Dopey one that I’m a bit apprehensive about because he look funky and not in a good way
Favorite Things Right Now:
1. Kpop Demon Hunters (Movie)
2. Superman (Movie)
3. Devil In Disguise by Marino (Song)
4. The Fantastic Four: First Steps (Movie)
5. Monster Hunter Rise (Video Game)

But the only other times I can think of when a secondary, older female character was turned into a doll, they are usually villains, right? Maybe it’s just because her costume is more princess-y than Asha’s?

I will definitely be buying a plush of the star character.
I know that Queen Elinor got dolls but I can't think of others at the moment... I love the Star plush, too!!

I'm confused- is the blond, skinny Teen a girl, guy, nonbinary? I can't tell...

I didn’t think about Queen Elinor but her role was really central to that movie. I was kinda expecting Queen Amaya to be in the movie as much as Rapunzel’s mom or Aurora’s mom. So I’m curious to see what her role in the movie is exactly.

Well, to give my opinion about the new pictures: I like the pictures of the dolls, especially of Asha and Queen Amaya. But I`m not too fond of Dahlia`s design. She looks like could`ve been a character from the Shrek franchise and therefore looks uncanny (despite how her doll is cute). Otherwise, I don`t mind the designs of the other characters from the book. However, the toy of the male character who`s tall and massive looks like a cousin of Kristoff and Bastion from Tangled.

Mattias from Frozen 2 had a doll too and he was not a very important character in the film.
They released also Ariel's sister dolls from the live action and they only appear 5 minutes in the movie.
I think that they Did an Amaya doll for fans. They now that they are going to buy her, she's not quite expensive to make

Well, Frozen II had many dolls of the secondary characters. Like King Agnarr, Queen Iduna, Honeymaren and Ryder. And Brave had a doll of Queen Ellinor.

Ariel sisters only exist in the movie to be made into merchandising, they had less than a minute of screentime

And Mattias from Frozen II had originally a song so his role was bigger

Thank you for pointing that out about the Frozen 2 characters (I’d argue Ariel’s sisters are a little different… they have had little screen time throughout the history of the franchise but there’s been lots of merch of them for years). So maybe Amaya’s doll doesn’t point to anything after all.

Speaking of Honeymaren, who else thinks the design of Asha’s dress is like hers, particularly the chest area?

I don't know if they count because it was quite a while back when both Disney and Mattel were different, but both Nakoma and Charlotte La Bouff had playline dolls as well. Also Dalia from the live-action Aladdin but that was Hasbro.

I hope Asha final princess dress is a beautiful kaftan, I just discovered that the moroccan kaftan was created in the Al Andalus (medieval Spain) like the movie (I checked because I was not sure if kaftans were created more recently)

Right now Asha outfit is really ugly but I'm sure her final dress will be beautiful, like all princesses (well Mirabel only has one outfit in the entire movie, even though she's not a princess she basically counts)

I wonder if there's going to be a twist that she is also working with her husband to achieve his goals and is going to fool Asha and the entire kingdom to do so. I wouldn't be shocked if that is what Queen Amaya holding that mirror means.

I doubt they have a twist villain, the producers, lee and directors have been very explicit that this is a return to the originals with a simple villain from begining to end, King Magnífico

I assume Amaya is just a good person since Disney is very pro-monarchy and have to show that good monarchs exist (queen Amaya role)

According to Lee, King Maginfico is going to be a villain with a tragic backstory and he has apparently lost a family member. I wonder how his backstory motivated him to hoard people wishes and wipe their memories.

I doubt it too. I don't think Jennifer Lee would've mentioned Queen Amaya as an example the movie is not against monarchy, when she was asked that question, if she was a villain.

I didn't remember characters like King Agnarr, Queen Iduna, Honeymaren or Mattias had dolls. Although, Frozen II was the sequel to a very successful film; maybe that's why they made so many dolls from that film. I still think Amaya will probably have an important role in the film. Maybe not a lot of screen time, but an instrumental role at least.

I knew the name Dahlia sounded familiar. I had forgotten that's what Jasmine's handmaiden and friend was called. Well, without the "h", but it's just a version of the same name. Why did they give Asha's best friend (a very similar role) the same name?

I personally like her outfit. The film's costumes are good in general, in my opinion. Especially, Asha's, Magnifico's and Amaya's. Although, the outfits in CGI films sometimes have too many details for my liking; I prefer the simplicity of 2D.

I'm the same. I don't think they have ever managed to make something as beautiful or as iconic as Cinderella's dress or Belle's dress in CGI.
