It's not so much that he is disappointed in the sales numbers for this particular release, but he is disappointed in home video sales in general. The home entertainment industry has taken a huge hit, not only because of the economy but also for other reasons. After 10 years of buying DVDs, most consumers don't have much shelf space left and are very selective with what they purchase. Online movie rental sites like Netflix have made renting movies quick and hassle free, so consumers are now more likely to rent a movie rather than purchase it. And digital media is a growing trend that also gives consumers another option to both rent and own films (part of the reason why so many studios now include digital copies with hard media releases). Bob Iger is just trying to be strategic about it and figure out what the next step is going to be.

Wow those are amazing sales! Does anyone happen to know how Sleeping Beauty fared?

Why? I like the slimline case. It fits better with the other Blu-rays I have.
Hmmm didn't know it was the norm there. Here all of them are standard width.

It's also worth noting that most people who bought the Platinum Edition probably had little interest in double-dipping. Does the average cosumer typically buy the same film more than once?

I haven't read all 55 previous pages, so forgive me for posing a question that has probably already come up:

This 'Diamond Edition' contains the BluRay plus a DVD, right? And there will be a DVD-edition that *doesn't* contain a BluRay, right? I mean, I *can* avoid having to buy a BluRay with my DVD? Otherwise I'd have to go through the trouble of ritually burning it.

I thought the Special Edition DVD still contained Disc 1 of the Blu-ray set, but I'm not sure of that.
Anyway, just ordered the American version of the Blu-ray, mostly for the mono track. Would've done it earlier, but I had a month long hiatus of buying Blu-rays.

did you use the amazon snowhite promo code to get 10 dollars off?

Anyway Goliath you could just wait a month until the 2 disc DVD comes out.

Yes, that's what I was going to do anyway, but I'd like to know if the 2 disc DVD still contains a BluRay disc. (I read that somewhere.)

Unfortunately I'm restricted to PayPal, I don't own a creditcard. So Amazon is kinda useless to me. The 21 euros I paid for it is still a lot cheaper than it will be in the stores here.

I know it's still early to bring this up, but were there any clear announcements as to when Disney will bring this movie back to the vault?
If it's going to follow the usual shelf life of the currently available Disney classics of about a year or two, I think it's the first time that Snow White is going to be available for quite a time.
I know that the 2001 Platinum was available only for a few weeks (13 I think) although I don't know about the VHS.

Also, does anyone know how long it takes before Disney pulls off Collector's Editions for its movies? (Like those of Aladdin, Cinderella and The Lion King) because I'm currently deciding whether to buy the collector's book edition with the dvd case by december as I don't have the money right now and my 2001 Platinum still satisfies, and I'm worrying that when December comes, the Collector's Edition is already OOP..

I bought the Snow White edition with the book , but what I would like to discover is whether the two books in the book only edition and Deluxe Edition with pins/lithos and book have the same contents but simply have different covers , and are they both the same size?

www.amazon.fr has Pierre Lambert's magnificent Snow White tribute book priced at 38 Euros : Blanche Neige , marvellous glossy reproductions if you are a Snow White nut like me buy it!!

Hi, I want to ask something regarding the book but I don't think this deserves another thread.

So, the book that came with the Collector's Book Edition in DVD packaging and the one that came with the Limited Collector's Set are just the same in contents despite a few discrepancies in layouting and size right?

How about the contents themselves? Is the book really that worth it? I've read that it's about 160 pages long. I have the Aladdin Gift Set and the book that came with the set was also 160 pages long and that book was very disappointing. It was nifty, yes, but the actual contents of the book were just rehashes from the DVD bonuses. And don't get me started on that story book part as the last chapter.

Is this Snow White Book the same? Were the things stated in the Blu-ray bonuses just repeated?

Yeah, all of the text is the same. The layout has been altered slightly. The benefit of the big book is that all of the pictures are bigger. The book has a lot of rare pictures.

The book is MUCH better than the ones the came with the previous collector's sets (Lion King, Aladdin, Cinderella) and it doesn't rehash much of what is stated in the bonus features. However, a third of the book is the story of Snow White, which is nice but not so informative. The bottom line is that better books have been written about Snow White, but this one is nice.

If you are a really big Snow White fan and collect Disney pins or lithographs, I would say spring for the Limited Collectors Set. It's on sale on Amazon for $105. But if you are more of a casual fan and are only interested in the book and nothing else from the set, go with the smaller Collector's Edition.

Well, I've got my UK Blu-ray and have to say:

Agggggghhhhhhhh! FFS Disney UK what's up with you?

So let me get this straight. The US gets the original mono soundtrack, France and Germany reportedly do... But the UK disc doesn't? Are you really telling me there wasn't any bit-budget for an additional, simple DD2.0 (recorded as mono) 192kbs soundtrack option?

Oh well, I thought, they can't make such an error on the bonus features disc. Can they? Yes, they can. No English subtitles are selectable. So if you're deaf, don't think you can enjoy the supplements. Except... oddly, English subtitles do come up unprompted on certain sequences - and if you turn them off with the subtitle control on your remote you can't seem to get them back from the menu or the remote!

As for the actual disc I'm very disappointed. I know the film should be everything, but I think Disney have taken a step backwards with their menus (their "standardised" Blu-ray menus were well designed, perfectly logical and consistent). The Hyperion Studios Tour isn't as innovative as I was expecting. In fact, from what I have seen it could easily be implemented on DVD with only a few small alterations. I don't feel this release is as impressive as Sleeping Beauty's or Pinocchio's. It seems somewhat light, even on Blu-ray with its many "added" supplements.

I've only skimmed the film and it doesn't quite hit me as much as Pinocchio or especially Sleeping Beauty did visually, but its still an impressive achievement. I've skipped around a few chapters and everything looked hunky-dory.
Most of my Blu-ray collection some of my UK discs aren't on their database

Thanks! No, I'm not that much of a fan of Snow White. I really like it, especially when I grew older and appreciated its importance, but my favorite classic is Aladdin, and that is when I would be spending that much money if it ever comes out with a Collector's Set, which is almost next to impossible as it was ousted off the Diamond Line :x (Oh heavens, why did Aladdin have such poor sales?)

The only thing that keeps me from buying the Collector's Book Edition is that the Blu-ray Discs come in DVD packaging. I want my Blus to come in Blu-ray cases! I know it sounds absurd
But the thing I hate about the Blu-ray packaging is that the hag was at the center of the picture, which keeps me from just getting the standard edition either. Darn! I'm confused

But in the end, I think I'm gonna end up with the Book Set. (I feel like I'm talking to myself more than I'm talking to you  )

Thanks for the info again!

Aw man...reading all these posts has made me REALLY regret never buying the PE. I didnt start my DVD collection until Beauty and the Beast came out. I just ordered the Diamond/Blu Ray despite it having mediocre features.

I'm really into "making of" stuff especially with Disney films.

Perhaps I will still look into buying the PE on the net before the prices shot up to like a million dollars a copy.

Having got both the original PE DVD and the recent Blu-ray, it seems like the Blu - visually speaking - has fewer special features.

I think that comes down to most of them being hidden away in the Hyperion Studios section. The special features on the old PE were all spread out in individal sections and more easily navigated through. I still haven't fully explored the Hyperion stuff on the BD yet. :)
