I bought this even though I do not have a Blu-Ray player yet, but have watched the DVD and it's a stunning transfer, just a beautiful film, the colors are so much richer and it looks so clear. I was really impressed.

The only other reason that i can think of for the release of the DVD packaging is that some collectors complain that the blu-ray cases ruin the uniformity of their DVD collection (or even that this disturbs the Feng Shui of their room). In this way, they can have their blu-rays in the same packaging with their rest of their DVD collection.

That's the reason I bought that version. Plus the other cover art was crappy.

After watching all of the shorts included, I realized just how much of a leap forward Snow White was. Even if Snow White were condensed to near short-length, it would still be above and beyond anything previously released. The inclusion of The Old Mill really shows how vital the multi-plane camera was in adding depth and realism to animation. Comparing the Pixar shorts to Toy Story yields similarities, but it's not quite as dramatic as Snow White, visually.

Overall, on this Diamond Edition, I was impressed, though it would have been nice to get a solid documentary, in addition to the interesting but tedious Hyperion Studios. I have never seen the Platinum, so I do not quite know what features I would have liked to be included; the increasingly training-video-esque Disney Through the Decades was not the best choice for legacy DVD content.

I've been watching the extras on the Blu-Ray 2nd disc. Took me a while to figure the layout. I'm rather disappointed already though, as my copy skips throughout Fess Parker's segment on the 1950's in the documentary that covers the decades, and that's when playing on my PS3, which never has trouble with anything. Have no other Blu-Ray player to try it on, but it sucks that I can't exchange it because I got it for reviewing purposes... I basically have to choose between watching it without the 1950's on the Blu-Ray or without the 2000's on the old DVD release...

Their Blu-ray looks all-around so much better than ours.. The slipcover is really awesome, being a sideways slide in spot thing (and without holes in the back!) and it has the good cover art.

I have been searching for some sales information for Snow White and I finally found it. During it's first week of release (10/6-10/11), Snow White was the top seller in the overall home video market, making this the first time that a Blu-Ray release has been number 1. Total sales were 4,104,321 copies. Of them, 70.56% were in the DVD packaging (2,869,009 copies) and 29.44% were in the Blu-Ray packaging (1,208,312 copies).

To compare, last March's first week sales for Pinocchio were 6,177,227 copies in total (DVD + Blu-Ray sales). 88% of sales were on DVD, 12% were on Blu-Ray. So while total sales were down for Snow White (most likely because a DVD only version was not available), Blu-Ray sales were way up, even if you only look at the Blu-Ray packaged version.
