Wow, that UK cover is absolutely beautiful. I'm amazed by how it looks like the book from the opening of the film. Too bad I can't get it over here in the US.
And sorry to go off topic here again, but I'm appalled at the fact that arielsprince believes that the parks are just a merchandising ploy. The main reason why the parks even exist is that Walt himself was growing tired of just the two dimensional animation and wanted to create new experiences to bring families together in three dimensional environments. Many of the attractions created by the Imagineers were even made by former animators and Disney artists such as Marc Davis, Rolly Crump, Ken Anderson, X Atencio, Blaine Gibson, Herb Ryman, John Hench, the list goes on infinently. I love the films just as much as any other Disney fan, but I personally believe the theme parks step up the movies even more - you're actually surrounded by the experience that you are in. Down to the minuest detail, the Imagineers create the feeling that you are in, like a cursed temple, a Caribbean town, or a Victorian haunted mansion. A feeling that sometimes you can't get when just staring at a screen watching a film.
Also the main reason why there are films based on the attractions is not to just promote the films, Walt wanted people to experience the movies in three dimensions. Actually, making you feel like you are flying over London, riding through the Seven Dwarfs mine, or careening through the streets of London. And many of the original attractions in Fantasyland don't just replicate their movies. Last time I checked, in the Adventures of Ichabod and Mr Toad, we didn't see Mr Toad crash into a dynamite warehouse, head onto a train, and into the depths of hell. Also many of the scenes in the original Snow White's Adventures and Sleeping Beauty Castle Walk Thru weren't even plot points that took place in the film. And besides a majority of the Fantasyland dark rides, almost every ride in the parks are all original ideas with original characters - Pirates of the Caribbean, the Enchanted Tiki Room, the Haunted Mansion, Country Bear Jamboree, Carousel of Progress. It wasn't until recently the idea of having lots of attractions based on the films came into being.
So please don't bash the parks just because others might love them more than the films. I'm not denying that there couldn't be any Disneyland or Walt Disney World if it wasn't for the animated films, but some people prefer to actually experience the highlights of the classics in three dimensions or original stories and experiences created by Disney not found in any films. For me personally, the main reason why I love Disney is that I feel I'm surrounded in the world they create - the rides, the architecture, the music and sounds, the smells all make me feel like I'm in a fairy tale kingdom, a New England villages of the 1700s, or a city of the future. And many of the original characters in the park experiences created by Marc Davis and the other animators are just as beloved as the Disney animated characters, such as the Redhead and the Aucitoneer in Pirates, Madame Leota and the hitchhiking ghosts in the Haunted Mansion, and Big Al and Teddi Barra in Country Bear Jamboree.
The parks are more than just for merchandising purposes - they're places that Walt wanted to create so people could experience a whole unique envirnoment never before seen and visit his movies in three dimensions. I personally love the parks more because they're experiences that surrounds me that I can't see anywhere else on a movie or tv screen, and the parks are always constantly changing, adding something new to look forward to. Also to remember, Walt himself was never content with just one thing - from simple cartoon shorts, to animated features, to live action films, to a recording company, to theme parks, to his last great unrealized dream of Epcot in which he wanted to create a city that would be clean and environmentally friendly and solve all the problems of other urban areas. Just because one person might love a certain aspect of the company more than the other, doesn't mean they disrespect the company's origins or it makes them less of a "true fan." It's just the experience or field they prefer and enjoy.

Actually, the Disney Store disc was mentioned with the bonus materials on that. I just wanted to confirm what was on the Amazon disc so that I could choose between the two depending on the bonus material.JDCB1986 wrote:This was mentioned already a few pages back....TheSequelOfDisney wrote:Does anyone know what will be on the Amazon bonus disc? The bonus disc is disc one of the Platinum DVD... So you will get a copy of the movie on Bluray and DVD when you buy the Bluray... it also has the bonus features mentioned above.

I'm wondering if I won't get that disc because I did the pre-order from the store and there was no mention of it - however, it sounds like it's something that will be "packaged" with the disc - but in any case, I may pre-order one from the disneystore.com also just incase.JDCB1986 wrote:same bonus features... the bonus disc is the same. movie plus selection of bonus features... doesn't matter if you order from amazon or disneystore...

You're welcome all for those storybook replicas. Did you notice Cinderella's, too? Do a little searching, it can be found in the other pictures in that link. In my opinion it's the best looking storybook, of course.
Yes, well said PhillipFan, but there's still some things I have problems with. Yes, the rides give highlight of the films. Highlights. Not hour long magical experiences that tell whole, cohesive (and usually more sense-making) stories. Also, many of the original characters of the parks can't compete with the characters of the movies on the same level because you see them for short instances, and you don't see them, once again, in a long story. In fact, for a lot of characters you have to go searching for info on their story, their story is usually background you don't find out from riding the ride they are in. Sure, great characters...if only you know what the characters are like other than seeing them for 3 minutes!
AND...SOME MORE NEW BONUS FEATURES for Sleeping Beauty Blu-ray!
Dragon Encounter – The ultimate audio experience utilizing Blu-ray high-definition 7.1 or 5.1 audio quality. Explore Maleficent’s dungeon in a fully-immersive audio sensory adventure like you’ve never experienced before. Deep in the bowels of Maleficent’s dungeon a dragon encounter awaits.
Dragon Encounter could also possibly be named Dungeon Escape, from other sources I've read.
Restoring The Sound Track – This featurette will cover the creation of the all new 7.1 mix of the score of Sleeping Beauty that was done exclusively for this Blu-ray release using the source tapes from the original recording sessions resulting in an audio experience of superior quality with greater detail and fidelity than you have ever heard before.
I think the feature on the soundtrack restoration should also be on the DVD, and perhaps it will be. I also wish there was a feature on the new picture restoration, but ah, well!
AND...how do you know for sure that the bonus DVD that comes with the Blu-ray is the first disc of the regular DVD? And, who knows for sure if you only get the bonus DVD by ordering the Blu-ray online?

Mike isn't the one suggesting that idea; he's the one doubting it. Everyone else in this thread is assuming that the bonus DVD is the same as disc one of the regular DVD set because of the Disney Store's description. (which lists the movie and several non-exclusive bonus features as the disc's content). I, personally, find that to be a really bizarre inclusion. The only thing I can think of (if the Disney Store's site is even accurate) is that Disney knows most people who have a BD player only have one in the entire household because of the steep price. Perhaps they figure throwing in a DVD copy would give people more flexibility in where they can watch it.
Oh, and Mike, where did you find out about those two features? Are we sure that Dragon Encounter/Dungeon Escape isn't the same as Maleficent's Challenge? The soundtrack restoration featurette sounds cool, though, and I, too, hope that we get a similar one for the picture.

Thanks, Disneykid! Also, love, love, love your new banner and avatar. Though...well, the avatar looks like the Hatter in space, which breaks the pattern. It it because he's the highest, most coolest, bestest one in the universe?
Oh, uh, I probably should have provided links. Well, the link here, which yukitora also posted, calls it Dugeon Escape. And the link here calls it Dragon Encounter.
And that last link seperates the games from Maleficent's Challenge, and gives this description:
Maleficent’s Challenge – Go head to head with one of Disney’s most infamous villains. Think of anything in the world and Maleficent will read your mind. Keep your wits about you, for that is the only way to defeat her.
Coolsville!

PrincePhillipFan-What I mean is that the parks are like merchandise, the film came first and they promote the films (And I"m talking about films like Snow White or Peter Pan that attrections are based on them, not films like Pirates Of The Carribbean or Hunted Mansion thought they get promoted too) like making parades for new films (Like Enchanted and Ratatotuille got) I didn't said it's a ploy to sell merchandise.

I think it makes sense.
Initially, I was definitely getting the Blu-Ray version w/o owning a BD player as I was able to watch the film on DVD, yet not miss out on the BD-exclusive features (which I could watch later).
But you know... the collectors edition is mighty pretty, so i'm getting that one instead

Continuation of the theme park VS. films discussion should take place in the already made thread.Ariel'sprince wrote:PrincePhillipFan-What I mean is that the parks are like merchandise, the film came first and they promote the films (And I"m talking about films like Snow White or Peter Pan that attrections are based on them, not films like Pirates Of The Carribbean or Hunted Mansion thought they get promoted too) like making parades for new films (Like Enchanted and Ratatotuille got) I didn't said it's a ploy to sell merchandise.

Thanks for the link, by the way, Mike. Both games sound very cool and are a welcome diversion from the usual "select-the-right-path-or-answer" set-top games we keep getting.
Why is it so unbelievable or difficult to comprehend that maybe Disney is including a single disc of the DVD with the Bluray so that people don't have to buy both the Bluray and the DVD upon it being released.
A lot of people have been saying... "I don't have a bluray player, but I'm buying it on Bluray anyway and I will also buy a copy on DVD." Now you don't have to buy two copies... You can buy the Bluray... and you will still get the film on DVD... I am confused at why everyone is so baffled by that.
They are trying to get you to move towards Bluray... and if they have to include a copy of the film on a more popular format (DVD) in order to get you moving in that direction, it's worth the extra .2 cents they have to pay for the 3rd disc.
And to clarify why it would have some of the same bonus features repeated... Simple... They already had the DVD made with the film and a selection of bonus features... it's much less expensive and less time consuming to just make a few extra copies of that disc and slap it into the Bluray package than it is to completely rework the disc with different features and a different layout etc...
