Anywho, I don't know how accurate this info is but... If you search Mulan at DVDAficianado and find the SE, it says it will be released October 26, which is the fourth tuesday of the month.

I can't wait until they release Mulan! It is a wonderful movie. Hopefully after it is released Disney will start putting more movies out on DVD such as Hercules, and The Hunchback of Notre Dame!

Hmm, collector's set, new scene, video clips... It seems just like a Platinum Edition! If Disney were smart, they would release it this past March as a Platinum Edition.

Well, Platinum, Special or whatever, I can't wait!

Hmm, I can only hope "Pocahontas" will receive the same treatment - unfortunately, I know it won't (in terms of collector's boxes... I'm sure the DVD will be very positive).

That collectors set sounds jaw-dropping, the bonus material is amazing. I hope Lea Salonga will take part in the special featurettes.

Good to know that it'll have a commentary track as I worried it wouldn't. This already sounds like a great release.

I'm surprised Disney's giving this a boxed set as I figured those were only reserved for Platinums.

Yeah, that's what I thought! That's a pleaseant surprise!

Disney used to release beautiful box sets for their LDs and VHS, it is good to see they are doing the same to the DVDs.

Yea that's what I thought too, I'm a little annoyed that Beauty and the beast and Snow White didn't get collectors boxes.......does that bother anyone else or is it just me?

And now since i guess masterpieces are getting collectors boxes too, I wish Sleeping Beauty and Alice got collectors boxes as well

I too am kinda sad that we won't be getting Collector's Sets for previous releases (ala: Alice, BATB, Snow White, etc.). But, on the upside, it seems we are now getting our fare share of Collector boxes. I can;t wait for this release. It sounds just as good as any Platinum (think Lion King or Aladdin). I'll be definitely picking up the Collector's Set. October's going to be an expensive month.

Looks like Disney is starting to care more for there animated classics. Now if only they would do the same for the 80s movies.

A collector's box seems intriguing, and if it's purty enough, I just might shell out the extra dough for it.

I don't wonder at Disney's haphazard treatment of their releases, though. It's been going on for years - the past decade, actually. Seems that, just like the recent animated films themselves, the dvd release schedule and packaging isn't quite thought out that thoroughly before it's implemented. Hence we get the poor-quality, insanely-priced Gold Collection dvds, the inconsistant Platinum packaging, the Platinum schedule sped up as an afterthought, the on-again, off-again slipcovers and two-disc releases, the strange Masterpiece Edition release line, etc.

I'm thinking that Disney may have looked at the numbers that the (probably experimental) TLK box set raked in, and decided to use the same treatment on future releases. Aladdin was a no-brainer, but now they're getting bold and giving the same treatment to the supposed "Masterpiece" edition of Mulan. It may be frustrating, but hey, as long as we keep buying, they can pretty much get away with whatever they want.

Yeah, I was thinking the same thing. We're never going to get all the classics in one "definitive" collection or even broken up into smaller collections. We can also say good-bye to similar packaging. Could this mean that this movie has been bumped into the Platinum line? I mean, no one knows what titles are in the Platinum line and so forth besides the collectors. I think it's a real possibility. However, does this particular title deserve the Platinum Banner? I think so. It's one of my Top 10 favorites. Anyway, I have some of the classics that have recently been released, each is from a different collection, and to be honest, they don't look bad next to each other.

P.S. There was much rejoicing when I read this recent post, but I had to sigh when I thought about how much less money I will have, because this edition, and boxset, is a no-brainer for me.

Walt Disney Home Entertainment have released some very early details on Mulan: Special Edition which will be arriving in shops this October. The film will receive a remastered anamorphic widescreen transfer and another of those great Disney Enhanced Dolby Digital 5.1 mixes. Extra material will include behind the scenes featurettes, deleted scenes, including a never before heard song and alternate openings, music videos, interactive games and an exclusive sneak peak at Mulan II. The disc will be available to own from the 26th October, priced at around $29.99. We hope to bring you the artwork shortly.

THX-certified, the transfer has been remastered in anamorphic widescreen with a Dolby Digital 5.1 surround track, plus plenty of extras including an audio commentary (participants TBA), the educational "Discovering Mulan" documentary, "Mulan's World" and "Digital Dum Sum" featurettes, both a new song and alternate openings to the film, three new music videos including "I'll Make a Man Out of You" sung by Donny Osmond and featuring Jackie Chan(!), still gallery, trailers and ROM materials. Retail will be $29.95 for the two-disc version, and $49.95 for a gift set (same extras plus collectibles).

By the way, I can't wait to hear Mulan with Enhanced Mix! I'm sure the battle scenes will shake the house!!
"Pocahontas" REALLY deserver an Enhanced HT Mix as well... the 5.1 on the current DVD is very anemic, and the film has one of the best scores and some of the best songs in Disney animation.

As I've already said, I think that all animated classics deserve an Enhanced HT Mix. Sure it's not as good as DTS, but it's certainly better than Dolby. The Lion King was awesome, and I can't wait for this October to be surrounded by a singing Robin Williams!

I wonder why they don't keep the original art covers?
Like from the threater posters or the VHS art cover.

Because then it wouldn't catch the customer's eyes when they see it. If they reused the VHS art on a Special Edition DVD re-release, people wouldn't have reason to think it was new just by looking at it. That's of course not true of anyone, but you try to market to the lowest common denominator, and you don't want to have people searching around for what's different and new. You want to say it outright.

ow yes, this is SO annoying, I bet Mary Poppins will be the supercalofragilisticexpealdocious edition? now with a Mulan box set (c'mon Disney make up your mind), the logic is totally gone here
