Glen Ballard, huh? The guy who`s behind Alanis Morissette`s famous Jagged Little Pill? An interesting choice.

At the time, I looked him up, and was surprised they picked someone who mostly works with radio artists. And he's worked with nearly everyone--Michael Jackson, Christina, Celine Dion, No Doubt, the list goes on and on.

Wow! I thought this was Timothy Spall’s part to lose. I don’t like having the Coachman to be sexy, but Luke was perfect as Gaston, so I’m sure he will be great!

Luke Evans talks about the film in a new interview:

It’s been announced that you’ll be playing one of the villains in Pinocchio with Tom Hanks. When a story like that has been told as many times as the story of Pinocchio has, what is it about a new version, or this version specifically, that won you over?

EVANS: Well, I’ve always loved Pinocchio. It’s a timeless story. It’s a very old fairy tale or fable, whatever you want to call it. It has very powerful messages woven into the storyline, many that I think relate to young kids and young people. I don’t think it will be anything like any iteration of Pinocchio that we’ve seen before. I’m truly excited to be a part of it. I’m very honored that Disney has chosen me to play another villain in the world of Disney. I’m surrounded by some very talented people, including Mr. Hanks. It’s just a joy to think that I’m in the same film as that legend. I’m very excited about it. Very excited, indeed.

Are you surprised, with a story like that or even a story like Pinocchio, that there are still surprises that can happen with stories that we’re so familiar with?

EVANS: No, I’m not surprised. Storytellers tell stories in different ways. Pinocchio is an Italian tale, originally. If you think about the Disney animation from 1940, it’s 81 years old. Disney is bringing it to life, and they’ve done such a wonderful job in their live-action remakes. I was in one that was extremely successful. That’s a perfect example of how you can bring a story to the live-action realm and still entertain people, and they don’t feel like they’re watching something that they already know. That’s the wonderful thing about bringing real actors in to play animated characters. They bring a three-dimensional performance to it. I think it will be very exciting. I’m very excited about bringing it to a new generation.

That's an odd choice for Jiminy to me, but he's a great actor, so I'm not worried at all.

It's an interesting cast. I never would've thought of some of these actors for these roles, like Luke Evans for the Coachman or Joseph Gordon-Levitt for Jiminy Cricket, which is an odd choice as Disney's Divinity pointed out, but maybe they'll do a good job. I watched Flora and Ulyses the other day and the actor who voices Pinocchio appeared in it. He played a very different character there. I thought that film was just OK, by the way, though it had some funny moments. I wonder if the Blue Fairy will have a song in this version, since Cynthia Erivo is also a singer.

I can't really hear Gordon-Levitt as Jiminy either. Shame they protorized a giant name for a voiceover role when you have Tom Hanks as the lead FGS. But he's a fantastic actor, so I know he'll be great. Plus, it sounds like from his tweet that JC means a lot to him, so this is so sweet. How can I not be happy for him? My big BIG concern for Gordon-Levitt is that his singing voice is eerily similar to Ewan McGregor's, who is Jiminy in the Netflix version. (Not like the original voice was the strongest singer, but he had a great warmth in the voice.) Wouldn't be shocking if Disney and Netflix fought over him.

I mean, yeah. Give a Little Whistle, anyone? If not Jiminy, it's 300% the Blue Fairy. Not only does it make sense, but c'mon. How can you cast Cynthia Erivo as the Blue Fairy and NOT have her sing WYWUAS (no matter who Jiminy is)? Glad to see I wasn’t too far off from Audra McDonald!

Oh I forgot baby Joseph was in that, thanks! So, what’s left are Strombolli, Lampwick, and Gideon. I can see Gideon not being in it. The flopped London/West End-tryout stage show only had Honest John and they did cool things with him (Gideon was on his cane actually).

Yeah, the person who wrote that article probably didn't remember Jiminy also sings "Give a Little Whistle". It didn't occur to me the Blue Fairy could be the one singing "When You Wish Upon a Star". It does make a lot of sense. I bet that's what the article was insinuating.

Regarding Lampwick, according to The Illuminerdi, Disney was interested in the actor who played Pete in the remake of Pete's Dragon for that role, but his casting has not been confirmed yet.

I've read the book, but I don't remember if there was a seagull in it. It doesn't appear on Wikipedia, but there it says there are several birds in the story: a falcon, an owl, a crow, a parrot and a pigeon. So, maybe the seagull is replacing one or more of those characters.
