I, personally, think that the cover is better off without the Genie, but Genie is a main character, so it should be on the cover...*groan*

Just put the Genie on there just not so big. I agree with Yuki, the Genie is pretty much a main character so he should be on there. Just not as big.

Ahh change it back, change it back!

Or at least smaller like what the CFPGOTAPEDVD.... people said!

This is just like Cogsworth being left off the Beauty and the Beast cover ...

Did anyone else notice that?

good one

Yeah I always wondered about that. They put Chip but not Cogsworth
When I look at the cover, it's like something is very missing in there. It wouldn't have bothered me had they not included Lumiere and Mrs Potts and Chip - but they had - and without Cogsworth it looks wrong.

Could it be that the removal of the genie has anything to do with the relationship between Robin Williams and Disney? :?

I mean, he hasn't really been nice to Disney... and they havent been nice to him back in the early nineties.. now I dont know what it was all about exactly, but I do know that the 23% genie rule was one of the consequences of the conflict.

Does anyone know if this has anything to do with it? Because I really prefer the genie on the cover... Kinda like on the old laserdisc...

Well, the 23% rule seems a little pointless now. Everyone knows Williams is the Genie.

Plus, the UK release of King of Thieves has a STARRING ROBIN WILLIAMS plastered all over the cover.

I think once image could be for the slipcover and one for the actual case cover.
Most of my Blu-ray collection some of my UK discs aren't on their database

Yeah, I agree. The BATB cover pales in comparison to the other platinums. It just seems bland, and only the 2 title characters stand out, as if they were all that's on the case.

Our new club! Care to join? It's called IOEHWLHSDLJLALDJFS . . . or is it JFDOSIUJRKLWJSH . . . hmm. I can never remember it fully. :D

Edit: alright, got it. It's the CFPGOTAPEDVDCBNWHUTBBTWTB, which has something to do with wanting the genie on the cover, but smaller.

Do you think the Genie's removal has anything to do with Robin Williams' anti-Eisner comments at the Academy Awards?

Welcome FilmMkr! That's a good point. I'm not sure, but I think that's too much of an obvious dig at Robin for Disney right now. Of course, they could always say they didn't want to upset him because of the 23% thing and the cover didn't work with a smaller Genie. . . I don't know. The comments made me laugh, though.

I really don't think he needs to be on there at all.... I think just having Aladdin holding the lamp is nice.

I have such a nicer cover art in my head, I only wish I had the programs and no how, to make it and show you all, and it is a very plausible one too, it would go perfectly with the other platinum covers.

As for the BATB cover, I really liked it, and as for Cogsworth not being on it... oh well, I guess it sucks for the people who brought Cogsworth to life, the voice actor and animators, as well as his fans, but for me, it is no real loss...

And Belle and the Beast really should be the main focus of the cover, just as Aladdin and Jasmine should be the main focus of the Aladdin cover and Ariel (and Eric) should be the main focus of The Little Mermaid cover.... And BTW I really diddn't think that TLM cover posted up in another thread, was all that bad. I mean sure it needed a little tweeking but it seemed to fit with most of the other covers in the line, I thought.

Jasmine and Aladdin should be the main focus, but let's remember that alot of people's favorite character is Genie...not mine, but have you noticed that whenever you go out to look at Aladdin merchandise, most of it is Genie. Genie, Genie, Genie.
It just wouldn't be right without Genie, and Genie is what makes the movie happen. So even though the cover does look nicer without the Genie, it is almost manditory to include the genie.

I would put the Genie on the cover over Jasmine any day.

1) He's a huge character. It's not like he's Abu or Iago, he serves as a catalyst for most of the drama and conflict in the movie. You can say the movie is about Aladdin because of its name, yeah sure I'll buy that, but there's no way that Jasmine is more important to the film than the Genie!

2)Robin Williams vocal performance is widely regarded as some of the best voice work ever done. Over the summer a lot of critics compared Ellen's work in Finding Nemo to it. His voicework as the Genie is regarded as a benchmark in the field.

3)Should Timon and Pumbaa be replaced with Nala on the Lion King cover?

Alright, well this came off more argumentative than I had hoped, it's just my opinion and everyone is entitled to their own but...

I LIKE THE GENIE :)

It's not right to omit the Genie from the cover, he's waaaay too important to the movie.
