I've stumbled across this old article. Apparently Toy Story 4 was in the works long before Tom Hanks spilled the beans.

But wait, there’s more – lots of rumbles of internecine squabbling at Pixar, possible troubles with Cars 2, the studio’s noticeable new reliance on sequels, and then today I hear the following words for the first time:
They were stretching it making a third one that reused too much from the first two. I really hope they don't make a fourth one, as each time PIXAR makes a sequel to one of their movies, they're depriving us of an original we could've gotten that year. It's been two years in a row now with out a PIXAR original, and after Brave, we'll be deprived of another.
One of the things that has made Pixar the best movie studio of our generation was how they avoided many of the traps that other studios have long succumbed to. They already proved that they're capable of making good sequels, but now they seem to be pushing their luck.
Ah-ha! Notice the key-word "hope" in there. Why would he hope something is made, when he's positive it's in production? Call me stubborn, but I just fail to believe that Toy Story 4 is happening.

Disney/Pixar have just announced another film, as yet untitled, to be released on May, 30th 2014. Whether this is Toy Story 4 remains to be seen but there are now two untitled projects in the pipeline to follow Monsters University.

This is a re release of the line they had back in 1999 (give or take). The idea is basically already in Toy story 2 at the very end. Andy talks about "bazooka Jane (Jessie) and her jet propelled horse (Bulleye)." and space cows. So after the first movie this is how Andy plays with his toys, by imagining up ways to combine the space and western themes.
In other words this space line is Andy's imagination.
Anyway, I enjoyed the commercial. Really makes me want a Toy Story Collection Zurg though.
I asked one of my moles at Disney for an answer on [whether there'll be a Toy Story 4] since I’m not aware of anything happening Toy Story-wise outside of the shorts Disney are producing. And here's the answer "Yes, more than likely. Disney are currently hearing pitches."
