Monsters University
Monsters, Inc. 2 a prequel; titled 'Monsters University'
Disney/Pixar confirmed today that the follow-up to Monsters, Inc.—previously referred to as "Monsters, Inc. 2"— will be a prequel entitled Monsters University.
The announcement was made a few hours ago at the CinemaCon motion picture theatre industry convention in Las Vegas.
This confirms the story, first reported in January, that the movie will follow Sulley and Mike Wazowski back when they were classmates at Monstropolis' University of Fear.
“Obviously everybody knows at this point Mike and Sully are amazing friends—the best of friends—but as it turns out, in this story, that wasn’t always the case," said Dave Hollis, Disney’s executive vice president of worldwide distribution.
"From the moment they met at university, they could not stand each other. This story takes you through the ups and downs, and how they overcame their own differences.”
Disney insider Floyd Norman tweeted on Friday that Pixar was screening the film at Disney's lot in Burbank—undoubtedly an early storyboard version. "Welcome back, Mike and Sully, we've missed you. Yeah, you too, Randall," he later wrote.
Monsters University opens on November 2, 2012.

Cool, thanks for the update! It's interesting that this will be the first Pixar sequel to not use a number in the title, but I like the idea. Since it is a prequel, makes more sense to not call it "2."bulgaross wrote:Monsters, Inc. 2 a prequel; titled 'Monsters University'

I wonder if it will truly be "Monsters University" or if they will call it "Monsters U" or something, like how "Incorporated" is abbreviated.

From digitalyspy.co.uk : "Up's Pete Docter is directing Monsters University, which is due to open in US cinemas on November 2, 2012 and in the UK on December 7, 2012."
So is Pete Docter directing the prequel? I know he's previously said that he wasn't and that he was working on a new original idea and I've seen the tweet from Floyd Norman so is this confirmed to be false?

Well, he directed Monsters, Inc., so it's not surprising he will be on board for the sequel. As for the new project, maybe that didn't pan out, or he wanted to do this first?DisneyAnimation88 wrote:From digitalyspy.co.uk : "Up's Pete Docter is directing Monsters University, which is due to open in US cinemas on November 2, 2012 and in the UK on December 7, 2012."

From the little information we already have, I'm surprised that Randall will be in this.

Who? Darn it. Oh, well. I hope he'll be ok, I'm just worried about his experience.
EDIT: I just looked him up, he was a story artist for Cars and Toy Story 3. This is what his Wikipedia page says:

I'm a bit sceptical about the prequel. The premise doesn't sound that interesting. We'll have to wait and see, of course.
