So, I want this thread to have opinions as to who's excited about the release, and what your opinions on Fantasia are. Mine? One of Disney's best films. Fantasia is definitely going to please movie-goers, filmmakers, and Disney fans alike, even more so because it's coming to us in HD Blu-ray.
The Fantasia/Fantasia 2000 Platinum Edition Thread
"Fantasia: Platinum Edition": Spring 2010
Yesterday I received the Pinocchio Platinum Edition (which looks stunning, by the way), and the booklet inside the DVD (usually confirming which Platinum Edition is next) confirmed Snow White for this October, and Fantasia next March. Now I know for a fact rumors have nearly confirmed the release for these Platinum Editions, but I just wanted to let you know Disney put a final date on these.

when Fantasia was first going to go back into the Vault 5 years ago (I think?) I bought a copy of the basic DVD. I'll definitely pick up the Blu Ray release next year of the double movie (Fantasia/Fantasia 2000).
Disney Channel died when they stopped airing movies with Haley mills (Parent Trap and Pollyanna) and fun adventure movies like Swiss Family Robinson. R.I.P. the REAL Disney Channel. Date of Death: When the shows became teenie bopperish.

Let's hope that they take care of the horrible editing problem with "Fantasia". If they continue to release it the way it was in the box set, it will look horrendous in that blown up scenes that they did on the standard DVD.
I hope that Disney gives us the Road Show production, complete with the Overture, and the Exit music. I remember seeing this in the theater and with all of the glitz of a premier showing, the Overture and Exit music was amazing.
I am looking forward to "Fantasia" and will definitely get the Blu-Ray if they fis those edits that were so poorly done in the general release on DVD.

On the new Pinocchio dvd/blu-ray they explained the need of the smoking scenes (somehow these aren't there in at least the Dutch version, some other countries as well), so they could do just that with the Pastorale sequence. I really hope they'll do that. The current editing looks too obvious, and simply cutting them out will be even more jarring.

I am super dooper exicted for this release along with Fantasia 2000, but I have a little confession. It was only yesturday that I watched Fantasia for the first time ever! Shocking I know! (I still have never seen Fantasia 2000, so when I get this on Platinum Edition that will more than likely be the first time I see it) In my younger years Fantasia was one of the very (and I mean very) few animated Disney films I never owned on VHS or at least had come into contact with, and so I don't have that nostaglic connection with these that I do for so many other classics. Though last year I set out on a voyage to collect all the DAC on DVD (having only owning a very small few on the format) and so that promoted me to wanna watch it. I've seen the "Anthology" Boxset on the internet and I would love to own it, though there's no way I paying the "through the roof prices" it sells for (though I have recently purchased "Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs" and "Beauty and the Beast" for rather hefty prices but thats not the point
). Annnnyway I bought it on VHS for 50p in a charity shop a few weeks back and only got round to watching it yesturday, and I was amazed at how visually stunning it was. It's certainly a masterpiece! I will probably own all the other Classics by the time I get these next Spring so apart from The Princess and the Frog which will likely be released on DVD/Blu-Ray late 2010 as least in the UK (can't wait for this film
) they will be the last DAC I need to collect. So yes I'm very excited for these to return from the Vault
I love The Little Mermaid and Ariel

What exactly are Arabs supposed to look like? Go back and watch the film. Aladdin and Jasmine have the same tan skin, black hair and brown eyes as EVERYBODY else in the movie; It's not like they're pale with blue eyes, so how are they "whiter" than anyone else in the movie? Just because they're attractive? Is Aladdin supposed to have a beard and thick body hair? Does Jasmine need to have a hooknose and unibrow? Technically Arabs are classified as caucasians anyway, so I don't see the big deal.Goliath wrote:South Park is honest in that it portrays *everybody* equally bad.Neal wrote:Generally Arabs are portrayed much worse than Catholics - but it depends upon the show. You think it's the last group? What about Arabs? Have you been to the movies lately? Which movie has been so offensive to Catholics as it has been to Arabs?BelleGirl wrote:No, I just think it's the last group 'we' 'find it acceptable' to ridicule/stereotype and think nothing else of it. They're supposed to be Arabs. But they don't look like it.BelleGirl wrote:And even though you say that Aladdin and Jasmine are white, they are supposed to be Arabs, right? How else could Jasmine be daughter of a Sultan? i'm also curious to know how a real Arab princess cartoon character would look like. Can you draw her for me?

I'm really excited for this release. Fantasia and Fantasia/2000 are the only Disney films I have yet to see. Yes, that's right - shriek if you must, I have never seen Fantasia. I've wanted to for a while now, but I've been holding out for the Platinum Edition in hopes of having the ultimate DVD viewing experience. Plus, I didn't think I'd be waiting this long to see it. However, with that said I'm really excited to see the film and having a feeling I will really enjoy it. Also, it will be nice to have the Platinum collection completed and see what comes next.

What do you mean exactly? Do you mean the explanation of the need for the smoking scenes are not on the Dutch version of the Pinocchio DVD? Or do you mean the smoking scenes themselves are not on the Dutch version? Because I've seen the film on Dutch DVD, and the smoking scenes are on it.KubrickFan wrote:On the new Pinocchio dvd/blu-ray they explained the need of the smoking scenes (somehow these aren't there in at least the Dutch version, some other countries as well).
No, Aladdin and Jasmine don't have the same tan skin as the villains and goons in the film. Aladdin and Jasmine are *white*. Maybe you have to go back and watch the film, because obviously, you don't remember much from it. Aladdin and Jasmine are portrayed as American teenagers, both physically and with regard to their mindset. They aren't Arab in any way. Now, I know this is true for most of Disney's heroes, since the fims are primarily made for an American/Western audience. But that doesn't mean it's not true in Aladdin.Dr.Mirakle32 wrote:What exactly are Arabs supposed to look like? Go back and watch the film.
