Sounds like the real reason Newt was cancelled was because Blue Sky beat Pixar to the finish line.

Which I'm okay with. It is eerie how similar the story and characters are to Rio, but Rio was a great movie and a very personal film for the director. So I am perfectly fine living in a world where Rio (and Rio 2) exist, but Newt doesn't.
