The Disney Channel has pulled an upcoming Hannah Montana episode focusing on Oliver's diabetes after receiving negative feedback from parents who previewed it. A spokeswoman said that they are 'reevaluating' the episode, titled, 'No Sugar, Sugar.'
There's a short YouTube clip from the episode in the above link. The whole episode was on YouTube, but Disney took it away. I haven't watched it yet.
This is just like the "That's So Raven" episode dealing with smoking. Maybe we'll see this episode in a couple years.
What's interesting is that this banned episode was scheduled to air on Sunday, the Season 3 premiere of "Hannah Montana", but they changed episodes and aired the episode entitled "He Ain't a Hottie, He's My Brother" instead (which, btw, was the funniest episode ever).
Since they had planned to air "No Sugar, Sugar", there was a PSA with Nick Jonas about diabetes that aired before "Hannah Montana"...

I can't imagine why they would pull an episode because it dealt with diabetes, even if it was done in a humorous (though surely tasteful) way. Seems strange since there's nothing to "hide" out diabetes and it would have been a great way to educate about the disease.
By the way, I happen to catch that "He Ain't a Hottie, He's My Brother" episode and that was pretty entertaining.

I find it odd that they're "banning" an episode about diabetes, of all things. It would almost be understandable if it was about something like smoking or perhaps something else more . . . er, adult-oriented.
Speaking of adult-oriented, I skimmed through the thread and didn't see a mention about the photos from her hacked cell phone?
Or maybe I just completely missed it like i did when it actually hit the news.

Sad indeed. Even if it screams "JUMP THE SHARK" it would have been wonderful to see a show known for its unlikely and unrealistic ideals finally deal with something that is current and REAL. Not to mention that this would have been TAME compared to the stuff mentioned in other "very special" episodes, including death of family members, pets and even young children.

Regarding the Diabetes episode...
I for one am bummed that they decided to pull the plug off of it...I think It could have been a learning tool for many kids to eat healthy when they are teen and don't go crazy..and it might provide a realism or tell kids something like Diabetes is preventable however you should eat a balanced diet...I mean I would understand if this was Fairly Odd Parents and Timmy wished for the world to be diabetic free. or for cancer to have a cure...but this IS a Live Action Show...I Mean it would humanize the show of Hannah Montana...I mean this is not the 70s where something like The Shaggy Dog also was diabetic...but this is the 21st century....I mean we already say how smoking is bad...and that's a whole differ ballpark....I could see it being shown at many Children's Hopsital's to kids who either are Diabetic or know nothing about it and this will teach them how to prevent it...
Such ashame...Hopefully Disney Will Reconsider and air this episode if not in November or December at least sometime in 2009

Why would I ask that question if I thought it was still on youtube
I was asking if someone had uploaded it elsewhere, since you can still download videos FROM youtube (when it was still there) and upload them elsewhere. Or even maybe the original uploader put it on dailymotion or Veoh or some other stream-video website.

I watched the episode in question when it was on youtube. I saw nothing wrong with it. Not only does the episode explain what diabetes is, but the advances that have been made and such. Honestly, I think it was a helpful episode that they should have aired.
I would like to know what some parents thought was wrong with this episode. They don't say what the complaints were.

I think that was the Christmas episode.Sky Syndrome wrote:Back in the 90's, Disney aired the Baby-sitters' Club TV series on their channel and in one of the episodes, one of the core members of the BSC, who's a diabetic, sneaks treats at a party and ends up in the hospital. So what is Disney's problem with having diabetics in shows on their channel now?
This is weird to say the least. I want to know what the heck Disney and parents saw wrong in the episode.
