"American Idol" 2008 Discussion
Well, I was completely all for Ramiele she was the reason I got into American Idol...and I was extremely sad she went home so early..
But now I guess I'm for either Carly or David COOK...not Archuleta...he's talented but I don't think he's THAT good. I think Carly and David Cook are really good performers and I really like there voices. I hope one or the other make it too the final 2. If either of them win. I'll be picking up there CD's.

What a mixed night. Some underdogs shined, well a few of the top dogs faltered.
The rankings:
1. Jason Castro - Love, love, loved it! He's so charismatic.
2. Kristy Lee Cook - One of two big surprises of the night. Kristy really won me over with this song.
3. Syesha Mercardo - I thought it was one of her better performances. But I also think it's too little too late for her.
4. David Archuleta - Yes, as unbelievable as it is, I actually kinda liked it. It was a bit nasally, and I'm still not a fan, but I kinda-sorta-maybe liked him a bit tonight. Oh god, does this mean I have to change my avatar?
5. Michael Johns - He Was just okay for me. I didn't like it anywhere near as much as the last two weeks. It didn't help that he sang what is probably my least favourite Aerosmith song.
6. Carly Smithson - I liked it, but it was one of her worst.
7. Brooke White - I really didn't like this at all. She's starting to crash and burn; which is sad because I loved her.
8. David Cook - That was just painful to watch.
Bottom Three:
Syesha Mercardo - Singing a former idol coronation song is never a good idea, she's been better lately, but other singers are more liked, and more memorable.
Carly Smithson - The critique she got (not the performance, because I didn't really think it was bad till the judges started talking) may put the final nail in the coffin for the Irish-songstress.
David Cook - This whole situation reminds me of Constantine. A lot.
Who goes home?
One bad performance by a contestant whose performances and not really their personality has made them liked can kill a potential idol. And I think that's what will happen this Thursday. David Cook is in big trouble. Another Canadian rock song will bring down a promising rock idol. I think they may be jinxed.

Somebody find a thermometer and take my temperature!! Tonight I loved Jason Castro's version of "Over the Rainbow" from the "Wizard of Oz". I still hate the dreads, but tonight he was spot on, and I think he cruises through this week without a hitch.
Don't think that fickle America will vote off David Cook, but I do think they will make him sweat a little and he will be in the bottom three Thursday night. My own opinion says that Syesha Mercado will be there, and I think the Kristy Lee Cook will make her final appearance in the bottom three and be sent home this Thursday night.
I could be way off there, but the good ones had a pretty mediocre night tonight and the ones that looked like they were on the verge of exiting put on the show of their lives. I think Carly Smithson and David Johns totally wasted their time with the songs they chose, and David Archuleta gets the teeny boppers vote each week, so he is safe.
My dream bottom three for this week would be David Archuleta, David Cook, and Brooke White, but I really think that all three are safe.
Can't wait for tomorrow nights 2 and a half hour spectacular. Lots of stars, lots of music, and a lot of show to cram in. When they taped it Sunday night at the Kodak Theatre it was almost four hours long, so they have had to some pretty swift editing to get it ready for tomorrow night. Sounds like a pretty good show and well worth watching.

I'll take my cue from Widdi and post my ranking of tonight's performances as well...
1. David Archuleta - It started off just a little off-pitch but picked up very soon and ended wonderfully. My favorite contestant delivers my favorite performance of the night yet again.
2. Jason Castro - This was really good. While neither Jason or David are making much of an effort to shake up their usual routine, they're both so good at what they're doing that it's hard to care. I love this song anyways and I thought Jason did a fantastic job with it.
3. Brooke White - I like the song but I don't think it was a great choice for this week or this stage in the competition. Still, she sounded good for the most part and at least managed to pit a song that fits her vibe.
4. Syesha Mercardo - On its own, it wasn't bad. Compared to Fantasia's, well... it doesn't compare. Syesha is really terrible at song choice. A song by a past "Idol" winner (the winning song from that season, no less) who has a big and very distinct voice? Really? Still, she can sing.
5. Michael Johns - On the one hand, I want to give him props for singing an Aerosmith song (my favorite band). On the other, I want to dock him points for singing it poorly. It started off fine but when he tried to become Steven Tyler and pull off those high notes, he failed miserably. The whole thing fell apart after the opening lines. This guy is okay but he's been hit or miss and I don't think he's cutting it anymore.
6. Carly Smithson - Very good voice, whack song choice, unmemorable performance. That's been the case with her every week.
7. David Cook - I loved "Billie Jean" the other week but otherwise think he's overrated. The singing was terrible and really kind of awkward, the way he jumped from low notes to high notes and rock to pop to gospel. I agree with Simon too, he comes off as conceited.
1. Kristy Lee Cook - Terrible. Totally off key until the last couple of notes. Weak song choice too. She's been around way, way too long and is the least talented competitor by a long shot. The sooner she goes, the better.
My votes went to David Archuleta, Jason Castro, and Brooke White tonight.
My predictions for Thursday's Bottom Three:
Carly Smithson
Kristy Lee Cook
Michael Johns
My prediction for Thursday's loser:
Kristy Lee Cook
...Looking forward to "Idol Gives Back" tomorrow!

I might be alone, but I liked Syesha's version of "I Believe" better than Fantasia's.
Still taking on a song by a Idol Winner isn't something I would think about doing. This was the song Fantasia performed when she won, of course the judges will support the Idol Winner no matter how good/bad the person singing it does.
Our Lady Peace is also one of my favorite bands, but David Cook killed that song. And not in a good way. Worst performance of the night.
David Archuleta did good. If he picks the right song he does really well. Same with Jason Castro. For the 2nd week in a row I really liked Castro's performance. Hes starting to really get into a routine (every week its almost the same thing), but its working for him.
I like Carly, but bad song/performance. Shes in trouble this week. Also Brooke didn't do good, but she didn't do bad. Was it just me or did she really seem super emotional halfway though that song? I thought she was going to cry before she finished.
Kristy Lee Cook should be the one to leave. Although David Cook was worse this week, she has been consistently worse overall. Somehow she will be safe again.
I'm not sure who the bottom 3 are, but I think Carly and Syesha are in trouble. One of them is probably going home.
Looking forward to tomorrow night.

I apologize in advance for the megapost. I just thought you'd all enjoy reading this.
To celebrate tonight's Idol Gives Back special, ew.com counted down the "15 Best Performances Ever on American Idol." Did your tops make the list?
--------------------------------------------------------------------------
15. RUBEN STUDDARD, ''Superstar'' (Season 2)
There will always be fans who believe Ruben should have played runner-up to Clay, and certainly the Velvet Teddy Bear's post-victory recordings (''Sorry 2004'' — just sorry) haven't won him any converts. But in today's world of histrionic pop ballads, there's something to be said for a beautiful song delivered with straightforward simplicity. With his soulful semifinal rendition of this classic Carpenters' tune, Ruuuuben began his own journey to stardom that took him right to the Idol finals and beyond.

14. TRENYCE, ''Proud Mary'' (Season 2)
''Sing like it's the last time you'll be on this stage,'' Paula Abdul often tells the Idol finalists. And stylish, sultry Trenyce — who pretty much lost all chance of winning the Idol crown when her shoplifting mug shot popped up on The Smoking Gun website midway through season 2 — did exactly that with her final-week performance: a scorching, disco-fied take on ''Proud Mary.'' As that big, growling voice connected with lyrics about a hardscrabble life on the river, Trenyce sounded every bit a winner.

13. DAVID COOK, ''Billie Jean'' (Season 7)
Yeah, his slowed-down, guitar-edged take on Michael Jackson's iconic pop-soul classic was inspired by Chris Cornell's 2007 cover. But Cook's pitch perfection, his explosive, tortured delivery, and yes, his savvy selection of a little-known arrangement that fit the week's musical theme instantly turned him into season 7's midterm front-runner. As for the haters and their silly indignation: Who's got time when you're busy giving a standing ''O''?

12. CLAY AIKEN, ''Solitaire'' (Season 2)
Quite possibly the most polarizing contestant in Idol history, Clay represents either the pinnacle of modern balladeering or the ultimate low in lite-pop affectation, depending on whom you ask. That said, his take on Neil Sedaka's angsty ballad — moodily backlit for maximum impact — was as heartfelt as it was riveting, with not a single wonky note in the mix. As Sedaka himself sighed, ''I have lost my song forever to you; it will always be a Clay Aiken song.''
<object width="425" height="355"><param name="movie" value="http://www.youtube.com/v/ezewktwS-KI&hl ... ram><param name="wmode" value="transparent"></param><embed src="http://www.youtube.com/v/ezewktwS-KI&hl=en" type="application/x-shockwave-flash" wmode="transparent" width="425" height="355"></embed></object>
11. CARRIE UNDERWOOD, ''Alone'' (Season 4)
Note to all future Idol wannabes: As far as the show is concerned, ''Alone'' is property of Carrie Underwood. And if you're flirting with the idea of tackling Heart's booming anthem (like recent contestants Gina Glocksen and Ramiele Malubay), a trip to YouTube to check out Underwood's season 4 rendition should be enough change your mind. Carrie's brute-force power, her total vocal control, even her hair (teased to '80s-era perfection) all combined to create a rousing coming-out party for the show's most successful graduate. In other words, don't try this at home, kids!

10. JORDIN SPARKS, ''I (Who Have Nothing)'' (Season 6)
Idol takes a lot of heat every season for saddling its young contestants with fusty old numbers written decades before they were born. But Jordin's gut-wrenching rendition of the fortysomething ballad ''I (Who Have Nothing)'' during British invasion week was downright revelatory, transforming the bubbly teen from a mid-pack player to a serious threat for the season 6 crown. With one incredible, anguished glory note, Jordin broke hearts and won fans across the nation, and in the process, silenced the deafening buzz about a presumed Melinda-LaKisha finale.

9. DAVID ARCHULETA, ''Imagine'' (Season 7)
Cynics, grab your Kleenex. You know Paula Abdul wasn't the only one with water in her eyes after the adorable Utah teen delivered a measured, powerful, and emotionally gripping take on John Lennon's classic. Now wipe those tears, hit the replay button on this performance, and repeat.
<object width="425" height="355"><param name="movie" value="http://www.youtube.com/v/NIuMcL4Kz44&hl ... ram><param name="wmode" value="transparent"></param><embed src="http://www.youtube.com/v/NIuMcL4Kz44&hl=en" type="application/x-shockwave-flash" wmode="transparent" width="425" height="355"></embed></object>
8. MELINDA DOOLITTLE, ''My Funny Valentine'' (Season 6)
Is it possible to perform too well on Idol? In the case of Melinda's luscious semifinal cover of the timeless jazz standard, the answer is, quite possibly, yes. Indeed, with her flawless phrasing and modulation, the way she caressed and finessed every word and note of Rodgers and Hart's gorgeous composition, Mindy Doo set the bar almost impossibly high for herself, and wound up as the season's second runner-up. That said, now that you can download Melinda's 2008 ''Funny'' cover on iTunes, each day can once again be Valentine's Day.
<object width="425" height="355"><param name="movie" value="http://www.youtube.com/v/kNAxnwYDrAM&hl ... ram><param name="wmode" value="transparent"></param><embed src="http://www.youtube.com/v/kNAxnwYDrAM&hl=en" type="application/x-shockwave-flash" wmode="transparent" width="425" height="355"></embed></object>
7. CHRIS DAUGHTRY, ''Hemorrhage'' (Season 5)
Fourth place, shmourth place! Daughtry's rock-star destiny was as obvious as a Ryan Seacrest punch line by the second week of Idol's fifth-season semifinals, when the bald-headed dude dug into this Fuel song with the kind of polish and charisma usually exhibited only by headline acts at massive stadium shows. In a word, awesome.
<object width="425" height="355"><param name="movie" value="http://www.youtube.com/v/v5aAJGRwqIk&hl ... ram><param name="wmode" value="transparent"></param><embed src="http://www.youtube.com/v/v5aAJGRwqIk&hl=en" type="application/x-shockwave-flash" wmode="transparent" width="425" height="355"></embed></object>
6. JENNIFER HUDSON, ''Circle of Life'' (Season 3)
If only every week of Idol featured a display of manic commitment to the music, the way wild-eyed, big-voiced, eventual Oscar winner J. Hud did throughout her season 3 run. Watching her seize upon Elton John's Lion King hymn like a lioness catching an impala made for a truly remarkable viewing experience. The Gospel inflection. The raised hand. The near swallowing of the microphone. All these things put Jennifer's interpretation on a slippery slope, but she felt every word of the song so truly, madly, and deeply that resisting her became an exercise in futility.
<object width="425" height="355"><param name="movie" value="http://www.youtube.com/v/erbr3L2NRo4&hl ... ram><param name="wmode" value="transparent"></param><embed src="http://www.youtube.com/v/erbr3L2NRo4&hl=en" type="application/x-shockwave-flash" wmode="transparent" width="425" height="355"></embed></object>
5. BO BICE, ''In a Dream'' (Season 4)
Talk about cojones! Late in Idol's fourth season, when viewers knew things were coming down to a photo finish between country gal Carrie Underwood and Bice, the shaggy Alabama rocker set down the mic stand and delivered a searing a capella rendition of ''In a Dream,'' a little-known ballad by Badlands. Sure, Bice ultimately took home the silver — and his sales haven't come close to Underwood's multi-platinum heights — but it's impossible to forget (and it'd be criminal not to applaud) his bold artistic choice, which doubled as a nod to Idol's accompaniment-free audition rounds.
<object width="425" height="355"><param name="movie" value="http://www.youtube.com/v/5D8ixbEShBA&hl ... ram><param name="wmode" value="transparent"></param><embed src="http://www.youtube.com/v/5D8ixbEShBA&hl=en" type="application/x-shockwave-flash" wmode="transparent" width="425" height="355"></embed></object>
4. BLAKE LEWIS, ''You Give Love a Bad Name'' (Season 6)
So what if Blake's vocals were the weakest of any top 2 contestant in Idol history? His audacious, thrilling, and wholly original reinvention of a cherished hair-metal anthem — complete with beatboxing and ''needle-on-the-record'' pantomime — injected sleepy season 6 with a jolt of super-cool electronica and much-needed fun. For that alone, here's hoping the guy scores himself at least one hit from his underappreciated Audio Day Dream disc.
<object width="425" height="355"><param name="movie" value="http://www.youtube.com/v/C4IGm9E4W9g&hl ... ram><param name="wmode" value="transparent"></param><embed src="http://www.youtube.com/v/C4IGm9E4W9g&hl=en" type="application/x-shockwave-flash" wmode="transparent" width="425" height="355"></embed></object>
3. ELLIOTT YAMIN, ''A Song for You'' (Season 5)
Okay, so it's not all that hard to move Paula Abdul to tears — but getting Simon Cowell to compare your performance to ''a vocal masterclass,'' that takes something beyond special, which is exactly how we'd describe Yamin's flawless rendition of Donnie Hathaway's classic. With his crooked smile and aw-shucks demeanor, Yamin was dogged by doubters throughout his Idol run, but for one night in the show's terrific fifth season, ''A Song for You'' made him a superstar — and very solid sales for his 2007 indie-label debut have kept the flame alive.
<object width="425" height="355"><param name="movie" value="http://www.youtube.com/v/ynDHyx1Ylt8&hl ... ram><param name="wmode" value="transparent"></param><embed src="http://www.youtube.com/v/ynDHyx1Ylt8&hl=en" type="application/x-shockwave-flash" wmode="transparent" width="425" height="355"></embed></object>
2. KELLY CLARKSON, ''Stuff Like That There'' (Season 1)
Some folks rail against the theme nights, which often force Idol contestants into new and unfamiliar musical genres, but they forget that big-band night helped make a star of the very first American Idol. Decked out in her black-and-white polka-dot dress and pearls, Kelly broke out a monster range that proved more than equal to the brassy, sassy ''Stuff Like That There,'' making the dusty gem sound fresh and modern. And indeed, her ability to raise even the sleepiest numbers (''A Moment Like This,'' ''Miss Independent'') to pop relevance helped Kelly make the early transition from TV-show novelty act to formidable ''Since U Been Gone'' chart-topper.
<object width="425" height="355"><param name="movie" value="http://www.youtube.com/v/64S5Rn9mlxs&hl ... ram><param name="wmode" value="transparent"></param><embed src="http://www.youtube.com/v/64S5Rn9mlxs&hl=en" type="application/x-shockwave-flash" wmode="transparent" width="425" height="355"></embed></object>
1. FANTASIA BARRINO, ''Summertime'' (Season 3)
On a soundtrack-themed night filled with covers of Whitney, Celine, and Phil Collins, Fantasia took a completely different path, choosing the haunting lullaby ''Summertime,'' from Porgy and Bess, a song she said she'd never heard prior to the competition. Yet, crouched on the stage and singing with a raw emotion that drew comparisons to a young Aretha, Fantasia moved not only herself to tears but a large chunk of the viewing audience as well. If you were lucky enough to catch her performance, then you know you witnessed a moment of true musical magic, one that future Idol finalists can only hope to match.
<object width="425" height="355"><param name="movie" value="http://www.youtube.com/v/-WWtGpEqpV4&hl ... ram><param name="wmode" value="transparent"></param><embed src="http://www.youtube.com/v/-WWtGpEqpV4&hl=en" type="application/x-shockwave-flash" wmode="transparent" width="425" height="355"></embed></object>
----------------------------------------------------------------------------
Not a bad list. Having Fantasia's "Summertime" as #1 was a bit of a given. Those who weren't filled with goosebumps by the end of the song are pretty much inhuman, in my opinion.
One thing I'd change for sure, though, is replace Blake Lewis' performance with Tamyra Gray's "A House Is Not A Home." How she was overlooked is beyond me.

Hope that you caught American Idol "Idol Gives Back" tonght, because it was probably the best show they have ever done - bar none. Lots of great talent gave of their time including Brad Pitt, Daughtry, Miley Cyrus, and of course Randy, Paula and Simon. It was a night of stars, and a night of pledging that will go down in Idol history.
Musical highlights included Gloria Estafan, Mariah Carey, Miley Cyrus, and Fergie with Heart, and Snoop Dog.
Billy Crystal had a very funny stint and then introduced 'a new star who I think will be on the next American Idol - Milly Serus' - of course he was introducing Miley Cyrus who brought the house down. Jimmy Kimmel had his schtick in place with some very pointed digs at Simon Cowell - "Cowell you make $40 million a year, it is time to step up from Super Cuts" as Kimmel ragged on Simon's hairstyle.
Towards the end of the show, the Russian Idol was brought on to the stage in the persona of none-other than Robin Williams, who was in rare form tonight.
All in all, this show, which ran over by almost 15 minutes, was a team endeavor by the folks at Fox and the producers of "Idol", and it showed. Let's hope they raise a ton of money, because all of the causes were well worth every penny we can donate.

Wrong, wrong, wrong!
Mike wasn't going to win, but now was not his time.
IGB was really boring this year, with the exception of the incomparable Annie Lennox's performance I didn't enjoy anything about the night. There is something about watching a rap star with a diamond encrusted microphone asking for money for the poor that just doesn't seem sincere to me. I'm also miffed that Idol will ask Canadians for money, but they won't let us vote.
Bad week all-round.
And just for the record, I did donate.

Widdi, sorry you didn't enjoy the show. I agree that Snoop Dog was not the proper act to be on any show that is asking for donations to any cause, much less the Idol Gives Back show. However, this was, other than that moment, one of the best things on television Wednesday night. I will even go so far as to say that it was better than that 'begging' show that Jerry Lewis hosts each year on Labor Day Weekend. I thought all the charities were well represented, and I thought that show was pretty even with its presentation of those tear-jerking moments and then turning it all around and having an inspiring act of entertainment.
Carrie Underwood singing a George Michael song was one of the many highlights, along your favorite Annie Lennox, who I think was far and away the best of the evening. I didn't think that the show was boring, although it was overlong, but it was still the best entertainment on 'free' television Wednesday night.
As for tonight's Idol Results show, I am still in as much shock as everyone else. This truly was the most shocking moment of the season with Michael Johns getting voted off. He wasn't that bad, and I think that his choice of song could have been better, but he sang what he believed was a song that inspires everyone to do what they want to do and "Dream On" to make it come true. Carly Smithson was shocked that it wasn't her, did you notice the look on her face when they said her and Sayesha's names?
Brooke White or Kristy Lee Cook would have been more deserving than either of those three in the bottom tonight, but the "Show Must Go On", and Carly, Kristy and Brooke are in it for another week.

I'll agree it was the best thing on TV. Wednesday night (though I didn't watch it 'til this afternoon; hence my delayed commentary), but I still don't think it was as good as last year's show.
I'm not really big on telethons to begin with (try working camera one at a local TV station's Christmas telethon four years in a row. That's 12 hours of walking back and forth with a heavy camera on your shoulder, with only a half-hour break 11 hours into it, and see if you enjoy telethons) and this year's show didn't really have anybody I am a huge fan of (Annie excluded) there. It had it's moments (The Brad Pitt mishap, the Roast of Simon, Billy Crystal's bit) that made it better, and seeing the kids in Africa always brings a tear to my eyes, but, if I may quote our judges "I wasn't jumping up and down over it".
And I was annoyed that Fox would open the voting line to us to take our donations, but still won't let us vote. I know it's "American" Idol and all, and we canucks have our own incarnation of the show (which is so bad it physically hurts to watch it), but AI is the number one rated show in our nation and the winners always sell like poutine or Tim Horton's coffee here (the AI winners almost always sell better than the CI ones, who have a tendency to fade away very, and I mean VERY, quickly). And yet still we have no say in the competition. I know it's for charity, but still... It's annoying.
I can't believe Michael is gone. I thought for sure either David or Carly would get the boot for severely bad showings, or that Syesha or Christy would finally run out of steam. Michael wasn't even on my radar. And Ryan saying "last year we didn't eliminate anyone" was really unnecessarily mean. It's like holding the glass of water just out of reach of the thirsty man.
The show will go on, but is there really any point to the next six weeks? Can't we just fast-forward to “Gaspy” winning and move on to season eight?

I was too lazy or busy to post, but I voted for Michael, Carly, and David Archuleta on Tuesday. I was surprised that Michael was in the bottom three, but, honestly, I'm glad that he went instead of Carly and Syesha. I liked Michael's performances better than Syesha's, but she has a lot of potential. And as Paula said a few weeks ago- at this point in the competition, everyone is talented, but someone needs to go home every week.
Oh, and tommy2.net posted that next week is MARIAH CAREY week. As in, Mariah will be the mentor AND THE CONTESTANTS WILL BE SINGING MARIAH CAREY SONGS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! I'm scared for the contestants. Real scared. I think that Jason Castro and David Cook will do a phenomenal job, since they'll rearrange the songs to make them their own. If you're going to do a song by Mariah/Whitney/Christina, you best rearrange it to make it different, so you won't get as compared to the original artist. I can see the judges telling Syesha that she's a "second-rate Mariah". I wonder if Kristy will do a countryfied version of a Mariah song...Oh, the possibilities.

Mariah Carey will be the mentor this week, as previously posted, but they won't be singing her songs. It will be music of the 90's, and there will be a chance that someone will take a chance with one of her songs, but I doubt it. The seven left need to find themselves, and show the judges that they are truly a candidate for the next American Idol.

If I had to rank them, it'd be:
1. David Archuleta
2. Carly Smithson
3. Kristy Lee Cook
4. Jason Castro
5. David Cook
6. Syesha
7. Brooke
Kristy really surprised me; that was easily the best performance she's given. It's one of the first times she didn't seem entirely out-of-place. The judges' reaction was totally off, to me. Same with Carly, who sounded great. David Cook wasn't as good as usual, so I'd put him in the bottom three with Syesha and Brooke. Brooke'll most likely go, though her track record's better than Syesha's for me. When Syesha hits those high notes, it's just painful.

My rankings for the night...
1. David Archuleta - Great performance; as usual, he was the best of the night.
2. Jason Castro - I'm a fan of Jason's, but I thought this wasn't one of his better songs. Vocally, it was just a little meager and not always hitting the right notes. That said, I did enjoy it and as Simon pointed out, he gets big points for doing some creative reworking and molding the song into his vibe.
3. Carly Smithson - Pretty good performance, though there wasn't anything especially unique or memorable about it (typical for Carly). Her version was very similar to the original, only not as good.
4. David Cook - The arrangement was excellent, the vocals were not.
5. Brooke White - I normally really enjoy Brooke's performances but this one sounded awful... way out of her range and a poor song choice for Brooke.
6. Kristy Lee Cook - Once again, the worst performance of the night came from KLC. I love "Forever" and hate that she turned it into a whiny country song. I'll give her credit for hitting those last couple of notes but otherwise, she sounded absolutely horrible and does not deserve a spot in the Top 6.
...Sadly, I did not see Syesha's performance (had to restart the TiVo), so I can't rank that one.
My votes for the evening went primarily to Archuleta, with just a couple reserved for Jason Castro and one each for Brooke and Carly.
My predictions for the Bottom 3 tomorrow: Carly Smithson, Brooke White, Kristy Lee Cook, with KLC going home.

Pretty forgettable night. Nobody stood out in a good way or a bad way. Too be honest I don't see any long lasting stars in this group. Rather than critique their performance I will tell you why I think they won't become the next Kelly or Carrie. I will rank them though.
1. Jason Castro - He isn't mainstream enough. He may get a small group of devoted fans, but he doesn't have the mass appeal needed to be a superstar.
2. David Cook - He is a solo rock star. Solo rock stars don't really exist. If he joins up with a band he could be big for a while, but he won't last. He just doesn't have that spark that people like Bon Jovi and Steven Tyler do. His incompatibility with the idol winner debut album formula could also put an early end to his career.
3. David Archuletta - He is too mainstream. He'll be big until another adorable teenage singer comes onto the scene, then he'll be tossed aside and dragged out again ten years later to be on a horrible VH1 reality show.
4. Syesha Mercardo - She's too cookie cutter. Syeshas are a dime a dozen in the music industry. She could be a one hit wonder, but that's about as much as she can hope for. I doubt she ever releases an album.
5. Kristy Lee Cook - Like Syesha, she's too cookie cutter. I'm sure she'll be signed and release a country CD next year, but if she ever makes a second one I would be surprised. Then again country has been the kindest genre to Idol Alumni, so I'd say Kristy, unbelievable as it might sound, probably has the best chance of a career in the music industry.
6. Carly Smithson - She's a good singer, but so what? Plenty of good singers fail to be big stars. If she joins up with a Evanescence type band she may achieve some level of success.
7. Brooke White - Like Jason she isn't mainstream enough. Can you really see Brooke on MTV? I can't.
Who's the bottom three?
Brooke White, Syesha Mercardo and Kristy Lee Cook. None of them gave their worst performance, but we're at the point in the competition where it gets harder to float by.
Who goes home?
Sorry Brooke, but your appeal has run out. You've fallen from grace, and your boring, unmemorable performances are about to due you in. Put your shoes on and exit stage left. Thanks.
