I can see why they rated it PG, just to let parents and children be fully aware of what the film entails, but I do agree that it will probably be manageable for young children. When I watched this trailer, it definitely gave off a more light-hearted feel to the movie rather than "dark and scary". I think Carrey choose to make this film because he wanted something his younger audience could watch, so I am sure it will be just that....age appropriate for all.

Oh, wow... how beautiful! I like the incorporation of the Christmas songs... somehow this managaes to sound haunting, thrilling, and warm all at the same time... What a lovely score!blackcauldron85 wrote: http://disneymusic.disney.go.com/albums ... track.html

Nothing says "Christmas Masterpiece" like a flappy, bed-shirted, CGI Jim Carrey screaming as he flies through the skies of London. Nay, SCREAMS it.
I have this theory that circa 2000, Robert Zemeckis was hanging a picture over his toilet when he fell and hit his head on the sink. Then when he came to, he decided to invent crappy mo-cap movies starring soulless dead-eyed Jim Carreys and Tom Hankses. Think about it.

Yeah, i do have to say I don't really understand this whole CGI trend. Although, I did LOVE Polar Express and I'm pretty sure I will like this film as well. I think I'd be happier with live actors overall though.SpringHeelJack wrote:I have this theory that circa 2000, Robert Zemeckis was hanging a picture over his toilet when he fell and hit his head on the sink. See... it could capture the book's more serious and heart-warming moments perfectly, but it'd still have Jim Carrey gadding about onscreen like... well, like almost every character he's ever played. Scrooge never struck me as being Ace Ventura-esque. Maybe I missed that part.Margos wrote:I don't know, from what I've heard, the ads we've seen really aren't too indicative of the full film.... I'm one of the people who loathed that movie. I think part of it was because I love the book, and then had to sit through what basically felt like a video game based on the book. Whereas the Polar Express was once a safe, exciting, enjoyable train ride, it became a trip across frozen ice tracks where children who lost their tickets end up "helping" the conductor and engineer shovel coal into the train, lest they all die. Merry Christmas?singerguy04 wrote:Yeah, i do have to say I don't really understand this whole CGI trend. Although, I did LOVE Polar Express and I'm pretty sure I will like this film as well. And the whole trip through Santa's conveyer belt where the kids have to use Prima's Official Polar Express Strategy Guide to... I don't even remember what they were trying to avoid or do, except that I was bored out of my wits. And whoever behind the scenes though Eddie Deezen should voice a child... you should be shot.

You captured my feelings about The Polar Express. I never read the book, but I too thought that the ride to the North Pole was too dangerous for a supposed magical ride. I mean, if this is a ride children were participating in couldn't the conductor figure out a safer way to take them to the North Pole? What if one of those kids die during the ride? I always believed that the kids were screaming their heads off during some scenes.SpringHeelJack wrote:I'm one of the people who loathed that movie. I also thought some scenes were weird and unnecessary. Like really, did we need a whole song and dance number around the hot chocolate scene?
Finally, I thought the message was weird. I mean, why go through all the trouble of taking children to the North Pole just so they can see Santa is real? Why don't we organize a magical plane ride to Bethlehem just so the kids can go to the manger Jesus was born and realize that Jesus is real?
I am very harsh on the film, sure, but it was a weird movie with an odd story line, weird CG and Tom Hank's ego plastered all over.

I think people should take the film simply for what it is...another remake of a classic holiday tale. Just enjoy it. The cast is great and the motion-capture technology is just something new and fun...I don't get what the big discussion is all about..I enjoy going to the theaters during the holidays, so maybe that is why I am a bit biased...I don't know.

Well.... Yeah, that's always a point. I mean, he was the: Worst. Count Olaf. Possible. Period.SpringHeelJack wrote:See... it could capture the book's more serious and heart-warming moments perfectly, but it'd still have Jim Carrey gadding about onscreen like... well, like almost every character he's ever played. And Scrooge is definitely more like Olaf than Ace Ventura. I don't really want him to play Scrooge like the silly Grinch, but I have a feeling that's where he's going.
Oh well. I'm just going to hope that his ghosts provide good enough foils for his Scrooge. They don't really seem too much like him from the previews, for some reason. And even so, I'm sure the other people will do well.... Bob Hoskins!

Just from the clips I have seen I have definitely gotten a completely different feel from Carrey...surely not an "Ace Ventura" vibe at all. I do thing since he is playing multiple roles he will make them all vastly different so they all stand out individually. With that said, I think this is a good project that Carrey will be able to display all his acting talents in. As far as the rest of the cast, I don't know about you, but I am excited to see Colin Firth! He is so great and I loved him in Mama Mia! and Bridget Jones' Diary! Robin Wright Penn is also in it and she is everyone's favorite back from her Forrest Gump days.
It can't be considered Feature Animation, even if it is destined to make more than anything since The Lion King. I placed it after The Wild here: http://www.ultimatedisney.com/ultimateanimated.htmBarbossa wrote:I was wondering, is Christmas Carol considered canon (animated classics)? If not where does it fit?
Though Robert Zemeckis himself doesn't consider his mo-cap productions to be animation (I agree with him, as all they're doing is tracing over real people rather than actually creating a whole universe from scratch).
Though, Disney does feel otherwise, since they did submit it to the animated feature category at the Oscars. Though, if it helps in there being five nominees this year, I'm not complaning. Won't be nominated, though.

I'm not really sure what to call mo-cap either. I think that it is almost a hybrid medium, since the live actor is doing all of the work, but computer animators provide the special effects and any distortions or overly-exaggerated movements that the character may make. So, I think it's sort of in a grey area between the two.
