I too find the cover a little odd. Here in the U.K., the cover for the previous special edition was similar to the image Escapay posted, and I much prefer it to the American one.
Maleficent in her fairy form makes a really striking static image. They should have used her to frame the top of the cover. Since for many she's really the selling point, she should definitely be on the cover.
I actually would prefer if they used one of the film's posters for each respective platinum. Sleeping Beauty has a great poster with Maleficent rearing up in flames:

There are others that would work well as well:

Does anyone else think that 2D animation looks better in HD than live-action or is it just me ?
Coz I saw the 2D prolouge of the Casino Royale in blu-ray, and it was a mindblowing experience on my new HD TV.
I honestly think that 2d animation is the epitome of all the genres in HD movies, and Sleeping Beauty is going to be the first full length 2D animation movie to arrive on Blu-ray, so it would defenitly be a must for a Blu-ray collection even if your not a Disney fan ! I have a strong feeling that this would be on top of the DVD charts at amazon.com !

MY THOUGHTS EXACTLY!Disney Villain wrote:
After reading everyone’s responses I have more thoughts.
Some people said that they'd prefer to see Aurora and Philip dancing on the cover. I disagree, the film is called Sleeping Beauty...not Dancing Aurora. I'd be upset if Aurora wasn’t sleeping on the cover.

Thank you, I mean the film is Sleeping Beauty, Aurora needs to be sleeping on the cover.271286 wrote:MY THOUGHTS EXACTLY!The key moment in the story is when Aurora is kissed by the prince... The dancing thing is more important in a story like Cinderella... So IMO the covers of Cinderella and Sleeping Beauty would be much to similar if they both included a dancing couple...

I don't think so,it's werid since 101 Dalmatians will be released eariler but i think it's becouse people are more exited about Sleeping Beauty (and it's a jump for the Disney Princess line for Disney),do you think 101 Dalmatian PE will be a jump for the Animale Friends franchise?.MagicMirror wrote:By the way, if the Sleeping Beauty PE cover has been released, has the 101 Dalmatians cover as well?

Trying to remeber what this thread is aout...
I like the cover design. The only things I would change are the colour of the Dragon/Prince Phillip fight. I'd make it black and green instaed of purple to reflect Maleficent's magic colour, and change the Fairies expressions. I'd like to think they'll make Aurora's dress blue like it actually is, but I know that'll never happen.
As far as bonus features, I just want a longer making of documentary. Plus an option to listen the song demos whithout listening to the audio commentary.
I like it when Disney makes merchandise for boys with Prince Phillip. It shows that Disney films can be fun for both genders. Plus sometimes it looks really cool like the rince Phillip costume I bought for Halloween a few years ago, and the action figure
). I can only hope they'll do the same with Prince Edward.

It's decent enough, though I agree with escapy about the french cover art being a good choice for the PE.Disney Villain wrote:Mods please merge this with thread with the Official Dicussion that I started months ago: http://www.ultimatedisney.com/forum/vie ... highlight= Thank You
About the Cover:
It's beautiful, but Disney better make some MAJOR changes. I hate how this cover uses all recycled clipart from the 2003 SE. Aurora looks like a rag doll, and Phillip looks like he’s about to molest her. I want a proper looking Aurora and Phillip. I want Aurora with beautiful, big, blonde curls...not Rag doll stringy hair! And where the hell is Maleficent!!! I want her in her fairy form, not her dragon form!
What I don't get is why we have SB cover art (even if it's just a mock up) over a year before it's released, while 101 Dalmatians' release date is just over 6 months away and we've seen nothing.

Because they don't need to pre-sell the buying public that wants a PE 101 Dalmatians; we're already frothing at the mouth.Widdi wrote:What I don't get is why we have SB cover art (even if it's just a mock up) over a year before it's released, while 101 Dalmatians' release date is just over 6 months away and we've seen nothing.
Selling the public on a new format is something else yet again, especially in the stage of early adoption. Disney is throwing all its weight behind BD, sending out the mall tour, releasing films on Blu-Ray that are setting the standard for the high definition home theatre experience in terms of picture & sound quality---and now pulling out a major Walt-made classic to add to the BD catalog to demonstrate commitment to the format and encourage consumer confidence & enthusiasm. I think showing a bit of box art with the announcement, even if only for the standard DVD release, was the absolute least they could do.
BD isn't going anywhere. Sony has too much invested, and is looking at the long haul; the format is supported by most of the major studios and more component manufacturers than HD-DVD (which BD also outsells by a roughly 2:1 margin according to Nielsens going back several months.)
All that said, no way you should bother buying into Blu-Ray OR HD-DVD yet unless you've got a decent-sized HDTV, a good & late-model home theatre sound system, and can stomach everything else than goes with being an early adopter of new technology, including but not limited to the following (h/t Gremal at blu-ray.com):
Myself, I stress way too much to be in this crowd...except this time. My Playstation3 was a grief-motivated consumer-therapy purchase; I have no PS3 games to date (though I've put in pieces of my PS2 collection from time-to-time), but the Blu-Ray player will receive a massive workout this holiday season. If I were going to recommend a BD player it would be the PS3 for the simple reason that it forms the lynchpin of Sony's Blu-Ray plan: it may be third in game console sales but there are more PS3s out there than standalone players in either hi-def format; it also gets ongoing firmware support from Sony that should keep the PS3 up-to-date and fully capable with newly developed BD features. The fact that Disney is thoroughly Blu only made the decision easier to rationalize because Disney makes up about 85% of movie collection anyway. If you've never been an early adopter before, you might not know that:
* Product doesn't always materialize when you'd like it to.
* Format wars aren't won overnight.
* Release dates are subject to change.
* Retail store clerks often seem clueless about the product or title you're interested in.
* Distributors are sometimes late with new releases.
* Product may even be faulty/have quality control issues.
That's all NORMAL. If you can't deal with it, you have no business being an early adopter of any format or new technology. For those of you who are running around like chickens with your heads cut off, freaking out over every delayed title or bump in the road, stop and think for a minute. Ask yourself if you're really cut out to be an early adopter. If so, please use a more rational, long-term perspective of the first few years of Blu-ray rollout. If you can't see that perspective, maybe you're not cut out to be an early adopter. Most people are not.
Early adopters have to deal with higher prices, market uncertainty, technological glitches and cancelled or delayed releases. Again, that's NORMAL. Those who can't deal with such problems should focus on a mature technology that's been around for a decade or more like DVD or CD. The release dates rarely change, prices are low and there is no format war for you to stress over.
Iger called the end of the war "a foregone conclusion." He's probably right, but saying it won't make it so.
POTC: DMC is simply the most amazing thing I've seen & (especially) heard in my den. Sleeping Beauty should be brilliant. I can't wait for 11/06 and Ratatouille to arrive in the mail. Or the Fantasia PE BD release to come---that score in uncompressed surround sound will rattle my windows.
(Oh, and a thought about the "typo" in the Disney press release: if the word "Blu-Ray" were not added to the word processor's user dictionary, isn't it likely that "<i>Blu</i>" would have been tagged as the typo, thereby getting the 'e' appended?)

I think that, if Disney were to have a new collection (like the Gold Collection & Platinum Edition, etc.), using movie posters would be a great idea. I think they would look out of place in the existing Platinum Edition line, though, since the other PEs don't use movie poster art on the cover.MagicMirror wrote: I actually would prefer if they used one of the film's posters for each respective platinum.
I'm not too picky about cover art, so I like the cover art for the mock-up of SB. I may or may not be picking this one up, depending on the bonus features...
I completely agree with Fflewduur- not only will SB be on Blu-Ray, it'll also be a double-dip (a double-dip of a previous 2-disc set, at that), so Disney will need to do extra marketing to get people interesting in re-buying SB or buying the Blu-Ray.

I hope so with Prince Edward, too, his costume is awesome, I like it better than Phillip's! But...did you really find an adult Phillip costume you can wear?! That's totally awesomes!!!!!Flanger-Hanger wrote:.I like it when Disney makes merchandise for boys with Prince Phillip. It shows that Disney films can be fun for both genders. Yay, I'm glad someone agrees! Oh, and if you look like Phillip that is such a good thing, I think he's the cutest/hottest Disney Prince!Ariel'sprince wrote:Disney Duster-i agreed with you.

I like that gray dress. Besides, you DO realize that if they cut all scenes with her in that dress, they'll have eliminated all of her lines, all of her songs, and most of her screentime, right?bradhig wrote:I wish they would cut that part with Aurora in that ugly grey dress. That dress should have been burned with the spinning wheels.

Yeah I like her ugly grey dress too, it kinda looks like Ariels ugly blue dress. But yeah, why cut it out? It also shows that Aurora wasn't raised in a regal manner cause it's kinda pesent like. But anyway that would be cutting out some of the most memorable moments in Sleeping Beauty.
I really like the mock cover. I hope they do something like that for the re-release except put Malificent instead of the Dragon and take out the charging prince and instead of the 2003 Aurora and Phillip redraw them and center them more and there you have it a perfect cover. I like the purple color thing going too, there arent a lot of Disney DVD's that are purple themed besides Snow White.
