Yes. Because like Lighthousemike has shown, you can't scan a reflective surface with 100% accuracy. So hurdle number 1 is creating a flawless copy of the original artwork. Hurdle number 2 is that most bootleggers have equipment which isn't set up to print ink directly onto the discs themselves. It's nothing to do with being cheap, its to help stop bootleggers.Disneykid wrote:The traffic must be absolutely insane because I can't view the first page of this thread. Since I can't comment on any screencaps because of that, I'll just comment on everything else. The disc art looks so cheap that I honestly think bootleggers could do a better job. The reflective effect worked for Cinderella because it kind of reminded me of glass, but it doen't work at all for The Little Mermaid. Is this supposed to be another way to throw bootleggers off? Does Disney honestly think they can't make individual clipart to print on their disc surfaces?

Where can we view the trailers?
The screencaps are awesome!!! Is the Little Mermaid 3 going to be a prequel? I would definitely prefer that, and it looks like it from the caps, but if that's the case then the "3" in the title doesn't make much sense. But it's been done before.
Cinderella 3 seems weird and unnecessary, but it definitely peaks ones curiosity. I have to admit that I'm psyched to see what they do with the idea, though the whole concept is rather like a fanfic.
So psyched about the TinkerBell movie!!! I adore Tink and Ariel, so this is all awesome for me! I just hope I have some spare cash when each of these come out, as I'm still playing catch up with Disney animation releases.
I'm so glad that Peter Pan is going to be a Platinum Edition! I love 101 Dalmatians, but I consider Peter Pan a little more of a "Classic," probably just because it's older and so magical. Plus, I love the characters. I'm psyched for the Jungle Book too. It's always been one of my top fave Disney films! I hope the Disney Store makes some products. I've been waiting for an American Mowgli beanie for some time now (they used to have one in the UK, but not when I went to London
). I want to add it to my Jungle Book themed pet-net hanging from one corner in my room. I have big plushes of Baloo, Louie, Kaa, Shere Khan, and Bagheera in there, so a beanie of Mowgli or a small plush is all I need (even though it's full already)! As for double dipping, I already have pretty much every Disney theatrically released animated feature, except for a few of the most recent ones, on some form of DVD, so anytime I have to buy one because it's received a better release, I have to double dip. This is great because Peter Pan is like the only one where I missed the better edition that came out last. I still only have that first Limited Issue. It would be GREAT to replace it with a platinum edition!!! So nice to no longer have to worry about hunting down an authentic copy of the Anniversary Edition (or whatever it was called) off Ebay or somewhere else.
I can't believe Lasseter is shutting down Disney Toon Studios though. Of course, I'm sure that just means he's taking those employees and applying them to the feature animation department, right? I mean, isn't that where they have Glen Keane and all those guys now? Or will there be more firings?!!! I'm wondering though, what this means for the future of 2D animation. I know many folks won't consider the lack of direct to video sequels much of a loss, but lately it's been pretty much our only source for new 2D Disney. I know they say Lasseter will be bringing back 2D, but is that really for sure? Frankly, while I like computer animation, I'm getting a little weary of it. I don't get weary of 2D. I'm just getting kind of sick of seeing trailers for computer animated films. They're getting about as half-assed as 2D was starting to get after that exploded in popularity. Frankly, I don't know why anyone would want to see a movie about a talking baseball... I think the main problem, though, is all this 3-D stuff is starting to look alike to me. It seems to have been easier to develop your own style with 2D. Every 2D film looks a little different. This computer animated stuff.... not so much. But, back to the loss of Disney Toon Studios, the sad part is that the direct to video market did do some great, original stuff with Mickey and the gang. I really wanted to see more of that. Yeah, there were SOME Disney movies that were practically perfect for sequels, like The Rescuers and Great Mouse Detective, but those probably would never have happened because of the public interest level. Still, they could have exclusively produced annual Mickey and the gang releases, or just a series of Toon-World themed releases, a-la House of Mouse, like the once rumored film that involved Basil (The Great Mouse Detective) on a search for Mickey. You know, original stories in a world that brought all the Disney characters together. Or, just more stuff like Three Musketeers and Once and Twice Upon a Christmas. It would also be a good source for more Pooh Material. Just saying, even though many people cheer at the end of Disney Direct to Video, I'm going to miss the rare GREAT film they would release...

The trailers are at the start of the thread, at the very end of Lighthousemikes original post. The Little Mermaid 3 is a prequel AND a sequel. It takes place after Melody has discovered her mermaid heritage, and she is curious about her mothers childhood, what happened to her grandmother? How did her parents meet? Who was Morgana's sister, she swore to avenge? And how did it come to be? And so Ariel tells Melody her story, of her mother, her sisters, Ursula and her life. So its a sequel, but Ariel is telling Melody the story of her life.slave2moonlight wrote:Aw, so it IS a sequel? I was hoping it was a prequel. Well, can anyone tell me where I can watch the trailers? I couldn't find any links in this thread.

Well, that doesn't sound too bad. I hope it's not something that totally disregards the events of the TV series (the way Lion King 1 and 1/2 did with Timon and Pumbaa), but I'm sure it will. At least it sounds like it will be tying the films together and giving us more of Ariel as a Mermaid!Josh wrote:The trailers are at the start of the thread, at the very end of Lighthousemikes original post. I'm watching the trailers now, and something I found very interesting about the Little Mermaid musical clip was that I seem to remember an episode of the TV show that was just like that! Ariel and Flounder snuck into a club and were surprised to see that Sebastian was performing there! I need to watch that episode again and compare! Ha.
Just saw the TinkerBell trailer, and it was gorgeous! I'm not saying I wouldn't have preferred it in traditional animation, ha, but I still liked it a lot. I have to say that it is the release I am most anticipating at the moment! Well, in addition to the Little Mermaid. There's that certain level of excitement about something you've never seen before with Tink though.
Just saw the Cinderella 3 trailer, and it makes a little more sense to me now. It looks more like a sequel than the "what if" type movie I thought it was before. Should be very interesting!

Are you sure about that? How'd you know?
