My pre-teen niece and nephew came to visit me for a couple of days in NYC. For entertainment, they wanted movies (of course), but I said - I'll do you one better - knowing that they've never been to a Broadway show. So, we went to Tarzan and Beauty and the Beast on Broadway. The kids loved it, and yours truely didn't suffer much either... Mainly because of a $35 discount to Tarzan and a $40 on Beauty and the Beast, both of which I got through the Broadwaybox site. Counting 6 tickets, I saved $215 . Sweet!

Wow, that sounded like you had a good time. I wanted to see beauty and the Beast when it came to our town but my mom said i might get bored and i had to stay home. I was kind of young back then.
Good thing I got to see lion king this year. That was fun to watch on stage.

I have seen Beauty and the Beast on Broadway, and Mary Poppins in the West End (London) and both were spectacular! You can't really compare them with the films b/c it's a totally different experience, but I definately suggest going to see them if you get the opportunity.

Wow! That's a pretty awesome discount. You're lucky to have seen 2 Disney shows on Broadway. I've seen The Lion King... but I would definately like to see the others as well.

I would love to see Beauty and the Beast on broadway. And of course once The Little Mermaid lands on broadway I'll be DYING to see that.

I've seen Beauty and the Beast 3 times, once in Houston, and twice on Broadway. I really have no desire to see The Lion King.

Non Disney wise, I've seen Hairspray, 8 times! LOL, it's my favorite, I was lucky enough to see the original broadway cast, got to meet Adam Fleming And I've also seen Wicked.

I saw Beauty and the Beast in San Antonio. My little sis saw it with me and also saw Aida and Lion King on Broadway on a choir trip to New York. She liked Aida a lot but didn't like Lion King for some reason, though she loves the movie.

The only other shows I've seen are We Will Rock You in London and The Music Man in San Antonio (at the same theater as Beauty and the Beast). Oh, and I LOVED them all, though, in retrospect, I probably mostly liked We Will Rock You because I like Queen and because I was in London with an audience that was mostly American cheerleaders, ha. No, I'm not a cheerleader, my sister was. She has also seen Thoroughly Modern Millie on Broadway during the choir trip. Not sure if she's seen any others. I went to New York once, but that trip turned out really crappy and I hardly saw anything besides Rockefeller Plaza and the Christmas Tree (before it was lit), and Grand Central Station. It's a long story.

I can understand why someone would like the movie and not like the broadway play. the play is a lot of theatrics and dancing. it's a lot more artsy than the movie itself was. it focuses on beauty and awe... while the movie was less focused on that (but it was, of course, a disney movie which all have a certain aura of classical beauty about them).


The first broadway show I was ever to was Beauty and the Beast, but I was very young and I dont remember it much. I then saw the Lion King, and i LOVED it. it was just... amazing. Off that topic a little, I've also seen Wicked which is, by far, my favorite musical. I think.... I haven't seen too too many, but so far it's my favorite.

And of course I can't wait to see the Little Mermaid. It should be great!!

Another way to get discounted Broadway tickets is to go to the TKTS. It's the ONLY official discounted ticket booth in the city, and is the only one where you are guaranteed not to get screwed over. This company is also available in London. Sometimes students can get discounts from the theatre box offices (which is often the best deal out there). Some theatres also have stand by lines the day of the performance in which you can see the plays at a cheaper price, or day of tickets. I've also of heard for some shows such as Chitty Chitty Bang Bang (in London) they would have a day dedicated to discounted or free tickets for kids. My advice for a good deal is to check out all of these options and you'll be able to see amazing shows for a good price.

Broadway is wonderful!! I wish I had a chance to see a Disney show when I went to NYC, I actually walked by Tarzan after the show and looked in, does that count? lol

I did see TLK on tour in Seattle and it was amazing!

While this doesn't necessarily apply to Disney Broadway Shows, if you are a student at a University, you may qualify for heavily discounted tickets. Our dramatic arts department just sent us an e-mail describing a new program for college and graduate students to purchase tickets to shows for $15. Go to ticketcentral.com/student for more information, or ask your dramatic arts department about it. It is a really new program, so hopefully we'll see shows like The Lion King and Wicked on there fairly soon! Right now it is focused on Off Broadway, but maybe it'll grow.
