Or better yet, save your money on such a dumb movie! :P

Not even the special effects were good(way to bright and unbelieveable for me). I can't believe this won 3 oscars! It should've won a razzie for worst editing if it deserved an award because it contain an hour that could've easily been cut out and served as its own movie.

Anyway, sorry for getting off-topic. I just read a ridiculous rave review on IGN, I just can't understand the hype.

Yeah, I was a bit puzzled at its notorious absence in every video store I've gone to. It's not even available at Amazon anymore (except for the Marketplace).

Get off of King Kong, already! I, for one, am sick of seeing you bash this movie at EVERY chance you get. We ALL get that you didn't like the movie. That's fine. You don't have to beat it into our heads. Just because YOU didn't like the movie, doesn't mean it's dumb. Saying that, implies you are saying that anyone who likes this movie is dumb. I will tell you, I am FAR from dumb, and I believe that most of the people who enjoy this film are FAR from dumb. King Kong is an excellent film (both 1933 and 2005 versions). Peter Jackson and his team did an awesome job bringing this film to life, and it deserves any praise it receives. It's your loss if you don't understand the "hype".

Well, it wasn't just that.

The thing I disliked most about King Kong was not in the movie itself actually. It was the hype.

Personally, I felt the critics(along with the Academy, but that's for a different thread) are biased against "mainstream" movies. Now I'm not saying 10 "mainstream" movies should be in every critic's top ten list, BUT they are definetely unfairly ragged on by the critics.

King Kong is a totally weird exception.

I mean, it's hard to find a top ten list of 2005 that does't have KK. That makes no sense to me.

I mean, some critics will say it's because they wanted a "variety" of movies, but I can't see why they couldn't put films like "Batman Begins", "The Chronicles of Narnia", "Star Wars: Episode 3: Revenge of the Sith", "Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire" heck even "War of the Worlds" instead.

I thought all 5 movies I mentioned were better than KK, and I didn't even like the last two I mentioned!

I felt the same way about "Lord of the Rings: Return of the King". I mean did it really deserve so much from the critics, academy AND audiences? IMO, NO WAY!!! In fact, it's my least favorite of the trilogy.

Personally, I found "Pirates of the Caribbean" to be a much better action/adventure movie.

But still, even despite this, I gues ROTK had a somewhat decent story and characters so I guess it wasn't dreadfully bad.

King Kong just didn't work for me at all. I don't see how overuse of CGI effects(a lot of them being bad) and a poorly pasted story of a far superior film can be "one of the best film of 2005".

Oh, and finally, I don't think anyone who enjoys KK, or any other movie, is dumb. Not you or anyone else.

Wow. Know I feel like buying something.

While I respect your opinion, I really don't understand the argument here. Okay, okay - you wish "mainstream" films could get a bite of the mix. You'd like a variety of movies. Cool!

But, really, you're making it as though "King Kong" was received with an array of Academy Award Nominations including Best Picture and Best Director, while "Batman Begins" et al, received such as a Cinematography nod. "King Kong" was took home 3 of its 4 nominations, that being Best Visual Effects, Best Sound Mixing, and Best Sound Editing. It lost Best Art Direction to "Memoirs of a Geisha".

I mean, come on. If this 'horrible' movie took home Picture, Director, swept the Acting categories and the Technicals, then, I could see why you are hating it's hype, but..really.

That might be the reason "Pirates of the Caribbean: The Curse of the Black Pearl" received 5 Academy Award Nominations - Best Visual Effects, Best Sound Mixing, Best Sound Editing, Best Makeup, and.."oh!" Best Actor in a Leading Role for Depp's Captain Jack Sparrow.

Wow, Aaron. Looks like you had a grand day! I still need to pick up Growing Pains: Season 1 and Walk the Line: 2-Disc Collector's Edition. I'd also like to pick up Boogie Nights: 2-Disc Platinum Series. How'd you manage to get the great price on Growing Pains: S1 and Boogie Nights: 2D for free?

I got my copy of The Chronicles of Narnia: The Lion, The Witch, and the Wardrobe - 2D CE at Best Buy, as well, and had the $5.00 pre-order, and price matched the Circuit City price ($24.99), but, I passed on the 48-DVD Wallet.

Weird... our Circuit City was selling it for SRP, but Target had it for $24.99, so it didn't matter. I got the CD wallet because I figured I can always use another and I'll never see one that cheap again.

I got Boogie Nights and Batman for free by taking advantage of Best Buy's sale this week: Select Warner 2-Disc Sets for $17.99 each and Buy 1, Get 1 Free

Growing Pains turned out to be mistakenly priced at $15.99, but they gave it to me at that price anyways, as it was marked that way.

Odd about the pricing at your local Circuit City. Did the weekly ad not have it priced for $24.99?

At any rate, great buys on your B1G1 Free. You got lucky on the mis-priced Growing Pains!
