Pinocchio (restored) and So Dear to My Heart already in R1..

Last summer I posted about the availability of Pinocchio (restored print) and So Dear to My Heart in Region 1 (playable in US machines). Unfortunately, the webmaster found it necessary to move my post to the International DVD forum therefore many of you never hear of this. I posted it here and not in the International, because it is in Region 1! I was in Mexico and I went to a DVD, CD popular chain store. They released the restored print of Pinocchio and So Dear to My Heart in Mexico. These are the same masters that were prepared for US release but never released complete with extras, deleted scenes and those annoying kid games. The prints and BEAUTIFUL and restored in 5.1 english. They are practicaly prefect in every way. I don't know how you can obtain them, but I know there are some online stores that carry them. The chain I bought them from is called Mix Up, so they should be at Mixup.com maybe with a .mx somewhere? Do a search. Pinocchio looks perfect. 10 times better than our old US release which had some compression problems. Same with So Dear which includes some 30-40 minutes of outtakes. Happy hunting!

PS: I paid about $30 for Pinocchio and about $15 for So Dear. Besides, all Disney US DVD are now manufactored in Mexico anyways. The quality is identical to former US pressings. And Buena Vista DVD Mexico charges an arm and a leg for their "Classic" titles, therefore the $30 high price for "Pinocho."

In Norway they cost even more. Regular prices are more then $35 and almost no stores sells them below this because Disney have made regulations on this. Stores that go below this price can end up with no stock in the future.

But even if that was a little OT I think it can explain that $30 is not uniqe.

as you can tell from my nickname the Mx stands for "Mexico"

The Pinocchio Special Edition is now out of print... anyway, it wasn't so special. Still it's still kind of easy to find.

It was restored, but it was not as spectacular as Snow White and others... still it is a brilliant restoration.

The bonus features are lame and boring... the behind the scenes feature is about 5 minutes long.

I'VE POSTED MANY MANY MANY TIMES THAT EVERY DISNEY DVD RELEASED IN MEXICO IS ENCODED ON BOTH REGION 1 AND REGION 4. So, if any american or canadian visitors decide to buy a disney dvd over here it will be fully compatible.

If you have any doubts about any Disney DVD that you can get over here, just ask me.

BTW So Dear To My Heart was released about 2 years ago... I don't think is very popular pver here.

Here in the UK the average cost of a Disney DVD is about £16.99 - £19.99, which in dollars is between $35.

A comment that I shall add is this; I think the "extraordinarily high-priced DVDs compared to the USA" is due to the dollar being a bit weak lately. If the dollar was stronger, the price would still be the same for each country (ie- in America, a DVD would cost $25, in UK, a DVD would cost £20.)

for some odd reason, I think Pinocchio is going to be a 2 disc set here in america. I think it will be released under the Masterpiece Collection Banner!

I searched ebay and just bought a copy of "So Dear To My Heart" from brazil. I think it is authentic. The seller has only positive feedback. There was one for auction with starting big of $19.99, but the seller also had a copy using buy it now for the same price, so I did that. Other movies they have are "Ducktales: The Movie," "Lt. Robinson Coruso." and "In Search of the Castaways." What stoped me from buying these also is the fact that they are on the list to com out here. I wasn't sure about Castaways, but the DVD was fullscreen like my VHS, so I can wait on that one. I just really wanted SDTMH to complete my live action/animation Disney films (yes I have a bootlegged copy of "Song of the South.)

Anyways, I am not having any luck finding a R1 Pinocchio DVD as mentioned in this post, so if anybody could help me out, I would greatly appreciate it.

You see, I found a copy of "Pinocchio Special Edition" that claims to be all region and the seller only has positive feedback. I am just curious wether this is real or not. As far as I know, Disney has not released any DVD as "all region." Either the seller is misinformed or the product is not legitimate.

Hmmm well it really sounds fake. Yeah it sounds like Luke is right but maybe it's a mesh of the two. Whatever the case I wouldn't get it.
