Lion King in France: 2 editions

Post by KinOO »

Here are the visuals and the packaging for the october 15th release of the Lion King (from http://www.cshonline.free.fr/disneynewspage )

The collector edition: (same visual as the others countries)

And the Exclusive Edition which will have the 2 discs from the collector edition and the soundtrack. All in a wonderful packaging as always with Buena Vista Home Video France (remember Treasure Planet, Peter Pan, Sleeping Beauty...)

Wow, looks very nice. I wonder if the soundtrack is just going to be the one released in '94 that everyone seems to own, or something new, perhaps with the Morning Report?

The French version has a DTS track? I think the Region 1 DVD has two Dolby Digital 5.1 tracks (Original and Disney EHT). What's going on :?

The UK has a DTS soundtrack too. Just like it did for Lilo and Stitch, Monsters, Inc, Treasure Planet... the list goes on and on :)

Dammit. That's another "Disney Collectors Edition DVD From Around The World" ordered. And I promised myself I wouldn't to that any more :(

Be sure to use our new Amazon.fr Affiliateship

Le Roi Lion - Édition Exlusive 2 DVD...The Lion King

I don't understand French at all, so signing up for it was a challenge.

I cancelled my old order and ordered again through the link - so you should be OK.

I also nabbed myself a Friends season 9 boxset at the same time (less than half the price of the UK discs  ) so hopefully you'll get some commisison from those as well :)

Thanks KinOO for the heads up!

Wow, they're already up to Season 9 in Europe, huh? I guess it helps that they got on board releasing full volumes there a lot earlier than here. We've just got S4 and will be getting Season 5 in the Fall.

Thanks for using the links! :D

No supplements what-so-ever (not even cast listings) on the European sets. :(

Correct - the first set just contains a 4 track "sampler" CD - they did the same for the Lilo and Stitch boxed set and the Return to Neverland release.

The second set contains the full soundtrack.

It will probably be the old edition, but in French.
The non-english Lion King soundtracks did have a bonus track, however. It was a score track titled "Hyenas".

Oh, really? Do you know if it's in French and if it contains the "Hyenas" track?

It may be in French, but I doubt it - look on Amazon.fr for soundtracks and hardly any are in French if they are for US or UK movies. However, the do often come with a second 'bonus' disc, or a few additional bonus tracks which include French renderings of important or the best known songs.

For Example Treasure Planet

The current Lion King seems to be a mixture of English and French

That's not the soundtrack, it's a spin-off album released to promote The Lion King 2.

You can't seem to get a French Lion King soundtrack at the moment then (they are selling the [UK?] import English language version though)

Then you should buy the US release, shouldn't you?
But I, as well as several other people on this forum, am located in Region 2, and would like to know if there are different R2 releases available before choosing where to buy from. :)
