2004 ULTIMATE DISNEY SECRET SANTA - Sign up by November 12th

Post by Luke »

The UltimateDisney.com Forum Secret Santa is a way for regular forum members to exchange a couple of gifts with one another. Each person who participates is assigned a forum member that they will get a present for, and they too are assigned to a forum member. The assignments are random, and people are encouraged to spend about $15-$20 on their gift(s).

There will be a wish list thread started once we know who's participating for sure. There, you'll be able to post a list of interests/favorites or things you'd like to get. Alternatively, you can post a link to the DVDs you have for people to get an idea for something they think you might like.

Gift certificates are acceptable, but discouraged. It's much more fun if you put thought and pick out something for your assigned recipient. If you do decide to go the gift certificate route, or order online and have it shipped to your recipient's address, a personal touch (like sending a card, in addition) would probably be a good idea.

If you are interested in participating, send an e-mail to santa@ultimatedisney.com with
1) your full name and address
2) your forum name
3) what holiday you celebrate

The deadline to sign up is Friday, November 12. The random assignments will occur sometime that weekend, and you should know who you'll be getting a gift for by that Saturday, November 13. Like last year, I'll be coordinating the assignments.

Regular forum members are encouraged to participate, no matter what part of the world you're from. If you're a minor ( under 18 ), you're welcome to join in the fun, but you'll have to get your parents' permission to participate.

I think we'll try to set the first week of December as the deadline to get gifts shipped out. While most who are participating are located in America, there are a few from Europe, and shipping internationally will take longer. It's always better to err on the side of "too early" than "too late."

Oh, it's worth mentioning that we'll have to set some time frame for members to do this. Last year, one member thought it would be cool to get a present and not give anything in return. It should go without saying, don't do that. I think anyone who has been a regular/semi-regular poster since August of this year or earlier is entirely welcome to join.

I've tried to cover all the bases, but I'm sure questions will arise. If so, feel free to post them here.

There's freedom to make this as fun as you'd like. Last year's was quite fun - we had 12 people. I expect we'll have a bigger turnout this year. Let's try and make this be even more fun! :santa:

I love the idea (last year looked like alot of fun), but I'm 100% sure that my parents won't let me partipate. Maybe in a few years when I move out. :(

alchimiste72, I'd love for you to participate, as the more people who are in it, the better. But as I said in the first post, it's only open to regular forum members. So, it's not because you're from Québec, but because you're totally new to the forum.

I'm sure your intentions are good, but last year a newbie burned us and it'll just be in the best interest of the program for you to get to know us first and let us get to know you. Be a regular poster and next year at this time, we'll be glad to have you participate!

I'm really sorry, but I hope you can understand.
Whats the deadline for signing up?
I think ideally, I'll want to have everything set within a couple of weeks. Maybe the 16th or so.

Hope you'll join, as well as anyone else who's been around the forum for a while, and considering doing this. The more, the merrier.

No fair! Running the Secret Santa means you get to talk to the real Santa?!? Gosh Luke you're so lucky. I wait up for him every Christmas Eve but he always evades me, grr.....D'ya think you could talk to him about that for me? I mean he's the one always talking about nice and naughty and then he goes off and avoids me when I try to meet him. I'd say that that most definitely qualifies as "naughty" behavior. But tell him that I'll forgive him if he buys me Disneyland for Christmas, ok? I've always wanted to own that place. Maybe I could have it shipped on over to Texas so that I could finally visit it. Well I guess that's all Luke, thanks alot!

P.S. Also ask Santa what he thinks my chances of becoming the next Santa are. I mean another one of the reasons that I wait up for him every year is so that I can push him off the roof and steal his identity, but if he keeps giving me the slip then my dream will never be fulfilled. Curse you Santa! :(

Well, you people are going to be mad at me, but Santa was deleted and a new one created. The way my webhost's stupid, stupid e-mail system is setup, the button you click to read the mail is right next to the button you click to delete an entire mail account. There's no confirmation or anything, it just deletes the address (and now, everything in it).

Look:

The envelope takes you to read the mail (with further signing in), the red X button deletes the account altogether without asking for confirmation.

The host wants me to pay $15 to restore the e-mails, and that's not a luxury I can afford. So can the 12 people who have e-mailed me their full names, addresses, and holidays please re-send those e-mails?

Hopefully you have them in a Sent folder, or it won't take too long for you to resend. I'm so sorry for the inconvenience. A centimeter to the right, and I'd have been fine.

Thanks.

Yes, you can participate! A US address would make things easier for most people who are doing this, but if someone overseas gets you, it probably wouldn't make a big difference. It's up to you.

So is this gonna be mostly dvds?
I think it would be better for 2 reasons:

1. cheaper shipping, so we can spend more on the actual item

2. who doesn't like dvds??

DVDs generally are a good way to go, and a lot of people went that route last year. But, if possible, it's nice to do something more creative or personal too, like a card. Though a DVD can be both creative and personal, for sure!

:pink: DVDs!

Yeah, in general you should aim for the $15-$20 price range. If you can and want to spend a little more on something for your recipient, that's fine. But I think you'd get a disappointed person who gets just a card.

If you're my Secret Santa recipient, Ciaobelli, I'll be sure to pick up a special GC title... just for you! :D

Hey, I think Buzz Lightyear bed sheets would make an awesome gift!
