I see real potential here, but I also can't help but think it's going to end up like that "Rescue Rangers" flagellation.

I agree. With some creative thought behind this it could be something very interesting, but I’m not holding my breath!PatchofBlue wrote: ↑Fri Mar 28, 2025 11:14 am I see real potential here, but I also can't help but think it's going to end up like that "Rescue Rangers" flagellation.

Re: Oswald the Lucky Rabbit (Live-Action)
Interesting. I wonder if it'll include Ortensia. I'd only recently learned that Oswald had a female counterpart just like Mickey with Minnie and Donald with Daisy.

Listening to most often lately:
Ariana Grande ~ "hate that I made you love me"
Sombr ~ "My Body Isn't Ready"
Kelly Clarkson ~ "I'd Be Lyin'"

Re: Oswald the Lucky Rabbit (Live-Action)
Here's what Jon Favreau said in the interview in its entirety.
Source: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=1f4CZIk6a6cJon Favreau wrote:I'm working on a TV show for Disney+ called "Oswald" about a rabbit Walt Disney created before Mickey Mouse. He lost the rights to that character and so that character was left in the past. Disney has since gotten the rights back and I wanted to tell a story about him coming back into the world of Disney. That's going to be next year. It's being animated here in Spain at SPA, Sergio Pablos' studio. I came out here, I visited the animation studio. All 2D animation by artists. It's a beautiful story.

Re: Oswald the Lucky Rabbit (Live-Action)
Favreau isn't someone I would have pegged for being like an educated Disney fan, but when I tally his work, including his contributions to Marvel and Star Wars, he's actually pretty active in the company. Even if I wasn't personally impressed by either of his Disney remakes, I'll tip my hat to him for pulling his load.
I wonder how much in common this series will have with "Coyote vs Acme"

Re: Oswald
Huh. Seeing Oswald in Walt's office. That's meta. I'm hoping more in the vein of like "Roger Rabbit" than the LA "Chip & Dale" flick.
Re: Oswald
Will the animation be handled by WDAS or DTVA?

Re: Oswald
Neither. It's done by The SPA Studios in Spain. It's the studio founded by Sergio Pablos who's a veteran Disney animator. They are most famous for producing Klaus.
Re: Oswald
Ah yeah, I remember this one!... Because of Klaus actually.
Thank you Sotiris
! I knew one can count on you for this kind of information
Regardless, is Disney going to promote it as a product from WDAS or DTVA? Or neither?

Re: Oswald
Believe its getting a Walt Disney Studio over WDAS or DTVA.
but from my book, this is basically a WDAS product
-Pablos and other at his studio are ex WDAS animators and he's the Animation supervisor. Its similar to Enchanted with Jamas Baxter Studio being lead and James Baxter (ex Disney) being the Animation supervisor. Or Ken Duncan Studio being lead studio and Ken Duncan (ex Disney) being the Animation supervisor on Mary Poppins Returns.
-Favreau has said numerous ex WDAS 2D animators are back
-Favreau even indicated that some even are still at WDAS
-An animation product made by WDAS or ex WDAS for Disney itself for me is basically WDAS.
-one has to remember that WDAS doesn't have a real 2D department its more of a skeleton crew. There aren't enough people to make something like this. THIS is closest possible to WDAS...
for me this is no different than the Disneyland tv show. From 1954-1970 the Disneyland tv show produced LOADS of animation for the show and it was never credited to WDAS its only credited to individual animators who all worked at WDAS. Even now everywhere you go, the show is never credited to WDAS even though its basically is in all but name.

Re: Oswald
Interesting that Jon Favreau is going to be behind the series. He`s the last director that I would picture to helm such a property. And the teaser was cute and endearing, too. The animation was good and it was cute how Oswald accidentally played When You Wish Upon a Star (despite how it was expected, too).
Really? Interesting.

Re: Oswald
Even though it's a TV series, it's produced by the live-action movie division, Disney Studios. It's still going to be Disney-branded, but it's going to be promoted by the Disney Studios' social media accounts.
Re: Oswald
Yea, I was thinking the same. Kinda makes me think if we were to ever get another hand drawn feature, it would be more likely to come from Pablo's studio than anything else.Dis2d wrote: ↑Sat Aug 15, 2026 2:40 pmBelieve its getting a Walt Disney Studio over WDAS or DTVA.

Re: Oswald
I'm glad to see Pablos studio getting more work after Klaus. The Studio seemed in limbo after Ember didn't get off the ground at Netflix (although still active film). This should give his animators some work and inject some money into the studio for future projects.Kyle wrote: ↑Sun Aug 16, 2026 4:05 amYea, I was thinking the same. yeah loads of ex WDAS animators have said current if Disney ever makes a new 2D its likely they will be forced to outsource the work somewhere else. As they can only do shorts, special projects aka small thing.I think if WDAS ever goes for 2D/3D hybrid film its ALL but likely to be more 3D than 2D and using 3D to make it look 2D. Does seem like they are prepping for 2D/3D hyrbid. Lilo and Scratch, past reports said that Tiana TV Show was meant to be 2D/3D, I assume that the Tiana Special will also be 2D/3D hybrid. We are going from short to featurette length to now only missing film. This is likely the best current WDAS can do for 2D, shorts or hybrid. This is why I'm hoping hybrid is future of WDAS, bring back 2D is some form more prominently.
SPA does seem a candidate for any full blown 2D comeback that if it ever happens and you have the ex WDAS connection too.
gonna be fun to see what the animators lineup ends up. Who came back for this project? Who are the animators at WDAS, ex WDAS and the SPA lineup.
Here's Hoping this project is a BIG success so that we get more Oswald seasons and more pure 2D projects even if its outsourced.I do prefer they continue like Enchanted, Mary Poppins Returns, Oswald to outsource to ex WDAS too.
Re: Oswald
Eric Goldberg is one of the 2D animators for "OSWALD" via The SPA Animator @OleLoken
"I got to animate on the same sequence as Eric Goldberg on the Oswald show. kinda crazy."
https://x.com/DTVANews/status/2089457785872187719
seems like first unofficial confirmation of a WDAS Animator still at Disney. Isn't Goldberg the head of WDAS 2D?
what's the likelihood that WDAS is credited for this film? Of course SPA are THE main studio but credits can go to more than one studio for work.
I think it makes sense for WDAS to be somewhat involved as its THE big Oswald project for his 100th.Would be idiotic if Walt's first star character has nothing from WDAS.
WDAS could still hopefully maybe release a 100th anniversary theatrical short with Frozen III as well.
