I think I've overall liked the glimpses at this actress. She doesn't serve the fairy-tale wonder of like Halle Bailey or Lily James, but I can also concede that Moana the film isn't necessarily chasing that same vibe. She does a good job at making Moana feel tough and grounded without feeling like she's trying too hard.

Re: Moana (Live-Action)
I really like the idea behind letting "both Moanas" sing, but at the same time, it only further reveals the cracks in the artifice.
This whole idea of Auli'i "passing the torch" seems ... really forced seeing as how she is still going to be actively contributing to Moana's character going forward. Like, if there's a Moana 3, there's no question about whether or not she'll be continuing to supply the performance.
Also, is this song going to be performed in the narrative? Because I have a hard time imagining how Moana's going to be having like a duet with herself.
But if our only new song ends up being in the credits, then it's a major missed opportunity.

Re: Moana (Live-Action)
To be honest, the song was fine enough, despite how it was bland and not particularly memorable. But since it`s going to be sung by both Moana`s and Maui, I`m wondering if it`s going to be an end credit song. Frankly, the songs for Moana 2 were better. But it`s a pity that it`s going to be the only new song.
As for the glimpses of the new shots, the actor who`s playing Chief Tui seems like a good fit. He certainly looks the part.

You can listen to the song in full, here.
The song's super bland and forgettable. The rapping part is especially annoying and cringe-worthy. I don't see it making any waves (pun intended) on the charts or at award shows. The concept itself is stupid. In order for it to make sense, it should have been a duet between Moana and her grandma; not this "2 Moanas" meta, shoehorned nonsense. Auli'i could have covered it for the end credits, if she wanted to be on the soundtrack that bad.

Around 1:51 in the song, it sounds really nice and their voices blend right. Quite a cute song, I could see it work along the way of Moana & Maui finally having their friendship/mentor montage before arriving at Te Fiti. But did they really haft to include rap into it.
Re: Moana (Live-Action)
This movie looks terrible.
I will say though, in the recent trailer it seems they heard the cries about the lack of color, because the color grading now looks noticeably more saturated than before.
Its not gonna get to me to watch it, but still.

Disney is so inconsistent with the new songs for their live-action remakes.
Menken wrote 3 amazing new tracks for Beauty and the Beast, and now we get a single mediocre and super bland song for Moana. What a mess.

Dwayne is Maui Featurette.

Apparently Dwayne`s mother and daughters are going to be a part of this remake.

Re: Moana (Live-Action)
Finally listened to "Along the Way."
My concerns about its narrative function persist. But I find it an easy enough listen.
My main observation was actually that Auli'i really has matured as a singer. I know she's done some stage work since the animated film, but I genuinely hope she gets to have a long career that both includes and expands beyond her work with Disney.
The song itself, I'd probably like better if it were released as a single or given some alternate tether to the Moana property.

Re: Moana (Live-Action)
Saw the trailer last Friday when I watched Toy Story and honestly I can't understand who thought that it was a good idea to use this wig for Maui. The doll is also available in stores and I also don't understand why Mattel released a doll of this guy. Who wants to have this hideous thing in his house? is creepy

The wig itself has never really bothered me. There's specific dissonance with seeing hair follicles on Johnson's normally barren head. But the wig doesn't even register on the list of things that are turning me off from this project.
That doll, on the other hand? Looks a little too "Chucky" for my taste.

Re: Moana (Live-Action)
For me a wig is really important because it's part of the character. I can't take him seriously with the appearance that he has on the film because he reminds me to a parody from Disaster movie or films like that. It completely takes me out of the movie when a character is not well characterized.PatchofBlue wrote: ↑Mon Jun 22, 2026 6:33 pm The wig itself has never really bothered me. I like the doll for Maui, to be honest. I liked it more than the doll for Moana herself.

Is easy to look better than Moana doll. She's the most hideous doll that they have made since Belle.DisneyFan09 wrote: ↑Wed Jun 24, 2026 6:20 pm I like the doll for Maui, to be honest. I liked it more than the doll for Moana herself.

Well, this is a different take from their normal remake buzz.“This isn’t meant to replace the animated film, it’s meant to sit alongside it,” director Thomas Kail says of Disney’s live-action Moana, due in theaters July 8, 2026.
