Source: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=uIUTEpXFSggQ: So, what are you up to these days?
Gaston Ugarte: I just finished a project called Gatto, which is our next original film, directed by Enrico Casarosa, who made Luca. The movie is great. It's super original. It's about a cat named Nero. It stars Mark Ruffalo as the voice of Nero. It takes place in Venice. What's unique about the movie is that we're introducing a completely new look. The whole movie looks like an illustration.
Q: Oh, is the whole movie like that?
Gaston Ugarte: It's all like that. It involved developing a pipeline, a whole workflow to be able to make the movie. A lot of the set construction, which is usually all in 3D, also shifted. We had to draw a ton of stuff. For example, in the image that was released, the windows you see there are hand-drawn. So, it was a hybrid process. You first had to model everything in 3D and then draw over them.

Re: Gatto
Interesting. I don't think I ever would have landed on him, but that actually only intrigues me further.
He's not one of my favorite performers, though I do really respect what he's doing right now with speaking out against the Paramount-Warner Bros merger. I'm open to this casting choice.

Re: Gatto
Just not a fan of his talent, or is it like a stance?

Re: Gatto
Mark Ruffalo is a vocal critic of Israel and that's probably why Farerb who is Israeli doesn't like him. I don't like him because I find him to be a weak actor with a very limited range.

Re: Gatto
Not meaning to be antagonistic. Just trying to understand. Their opinion of an actor, or their politics, doesn't change my measure of them.
Re: Gatto
I dont follow every thing he does or says, but in the little I do know of him, I've heard nothing worth objecting to with him, and yea, he's a vocal critic of Isreal, something I do side with.

Teaser Trailer

Not gonna lie, I don't know if I would have noticed any kind of "groundbreaking animation" technique based on just this clip if I didn't walk in expecting it. But this was also a fairly static clip. Maybe a wider range of footage will make it more apparent.
I definitely recognized the voices of the other cats, but I can't place them right now.
The clip itself didn't do much to catch my attention. But I also feel like it offered VERY LITTLE in the way of story, even based on the few details we know. Nothing about a musical tail or him bonding with a special human girl. I guess this'll have to do for now.

Mark Ruffalo (“Poor Things,” “The Avengers,” “Spotlight, “Foxcatcher”) has joined the voice cast as the scrappy black cat Nero, and Laurence Fishburne (“The Matrix” trilogy, “Boyz n the Hood,” “What's Love Got to Do with It”) will voice the ruthless mob boss cat Rocco. The teaser trailer introduces Nero and Rocco as they question another cat in a funny interrogation scene.
In “Gatto,” after years of maneuvering the canal-ridden, superstitious city of Venice, Italy, Nero begins to question whether he’s lived the right lives. Indebted to Rocco, the local feline mob boss, Nero finds himself in a quandary and is forced to forge a truly unexpected friendship that may finally lead him to his purpose—unless Venice gets the better of him first.
“Gatto” is directed by Enrico Casarosa and produced by Andrea Warren, the filmmaking team behind the Oscar®-nominated feature “Luca.” The new film releases exclusively in theaters March 5, 2027.
