Not sure if this is already covered, but I found this interesting. It's been a while since we've heard anything about Disney doing another training job for 2D animation, but this looks promising.

I wonder if this is being done in the event that they turn Tiana from a Paperman-style animated Disney+ series into a theatrical fully 2D/hand-drawn animated sequel to The Princess and the Frog once and if Moana 2 makes a billion and Disney gets the idea that it was a financially smart move to switch it up from a Disney+ series no one would watch and turn it into a movie people would see at the movies.

When I saw Auliโ€™i Cravalho in NYC today when she did press for Moana 2 on ABCโ€™s The View, I let her know I was rooting for her film heavily, in the hopes its success would get Tianaโ€™s Disney+ series to be turned into a theatrical sequel to The Princess And The Frog, a sequel that is also fully hand-drawn animated, for movie theaters.

Believe it or not, she actually was on my side & said she was a big advocate for more movies of hand-drawn animation to be made, saying โ€œwe need more of them to come back.โ€ I was not expecting her to say that, but I was pleasantly surprised and delighted to hear her say that.

And after hearing her say that, before I left, I let her know I was glad to hear her say she was an advocate for a future for hand-drawn animation, along with reminding her that the original Moana was supposed to be hand-drawn when Musker and Clements were announced to direct it, only for Iger and Lasseter to say to them โ€œsorry, but we canโ€™t allow that,โ€ to which she said โ€œoh yeah, I know all about that,โ€ and then I finished my quick chat with her by thanking her and wishing her fun to have ahead of Moana 2โ€™s release and she said โ€œthanks, hope you enjoy the movie,โ€ to which I said โ€œI hope to enjoy it too. Good luck.โ€

For all of u who have Netflix, I really recommend you to watch Arcane, its Literally one of the best series ever! Not only is the Animation stunning, but the characters, the lore and story is really interesting and well crafted. Characters like Jinx, Viktor or Jayce arent only hawt but really multidimensional. There is literally nothing or noone in this show that makes me go " meh ive already seen this before". Its really THAT good. :D
My sister convinced me to watch it when it first aired in 2021 since i wasnt into sci fi dystopia at all but the characters and storyline sold me already after the first 2 episodes. :milkbuds:

This show is everything I wish Disney would dare doing, having imperfect flawed characters that are still likeable, good characters that still can get killed off (which already establishes that it isnt a "safe space" and that anything can happen) that everysingle thing you do will have Consequences and shape characters and it has a big bittersweet Finale. Season 1 and 2 are one big story, no fillers etc.

While im sad that they arent gonna do a 3rd season as I loved it sm, im kinda proud of them knowing when to stop. Im therefore happy they recently announced a spin off series which is also based on Leage Of Legends i heard.

I never played the game and have no intention to, but its great how you dont have to be in on the joke or have to know the games to understand anything,...
Exact opposite with Disney where they throw in hints and IP references you will only get when your a Disney die hard fan lol

(To make this Post relevant, all backgrounds are handdrawn (digitally of course) which is cool as i was convinced it was cell shaded 3d)

Like many animated commercials, because they have less to animate, those are animated exceptionally, fantastically, wonderfully well.

Ladies & gentlemenโ€ฆ. FINALLY, the U.S. teaser trailer for the movie I hope gets nominated for (and maybe wins) Best Animated Feature at the Oscars to make Hollywood give us more fully 2D/hand-drawn animated theatrical movies, #TheDayTheEarthBlewUp: #ALooneyTunesMovie, starring Daffy Duck and Porky Pig, only in theaters February 28th: https://youtu.be/WZsVB6QiYrg?si=iz2N2kJWw0BbAgZn.

Hope Ketchup Entertainment gives this film an IMAX release for this movie in the USA if they could make that happen in the event of Captain America: Brave New World being a bad movie and that it hurts its second weekend hard.

Apparently, Jared Bush was asked a question about the status of the future of hand-drawn animation at Walt Disney Animation Studios. This is what he said: https://x.com/thejaredbush/status/18679 ... 00272?s=46.

Least heโ€™s at least acknowledging the legacy of what hand-drawn animation brought to Disney and that it should be given another chance.

The only way things can change at all is for 2D animated movies to start becoming a thing again. The Boy and the Heron proved that it could be done. The Day The Earth Blew Up and The Light of the World as well as Aang: The Last Airbender are also in the pipeline.

On the other hand, War of the Rohirrim proved to be a tough sell. I personally thought the movie was fantastic and deserved far better. But critics were surprisingly mixed on the film, and despite being budgeted at a modest $30 million, the film only earned about half that amount worldwide. The problem is not the artform. That movie was a dark, edgy story targeted more toward a niche group of fans. Tolkien is awesome, but not everyone is going to go see something like that, as hard as that is to believe.

However, that doesn't mean hope for 2D animation in theaters is dead. The aforementioned movies have a much more viable chance of success. The Day The Earth Blew Up is Looney Tunes fare. Everybody loves the Looney Tunes. The film got rave reviews at Annecy. The Light of the World arguably has the best chance of being a genuine hit. It touches on a universal story. Reaction to the trailer, too, is very favorable. There is hype behind it. It should click. And of course, everyone loves Avatar: The Last Airbender, including me. Aang is said to be 2D animated with 3D elements.

Just because another 2D animated film fell short (but personally I think it's destined for cult status) doesn't mean that all is lost. In order for Disney to reconsider 2D animation theatrically (and Hollywood in general), it has to prove its worth. War of the Rohirrim was risky and, as mentioned, more of a niche film than anything else. But the other three are universally appealing.

Ok, about Light of the World, the budget of the movie is 20 million dollars, and in order to break box office the move needs to make 50 million dollars. The budget doesn't sound much compared to other animated movies that have been releasing like Disney or Dreamwork, but considering the movie is from a relatively unknown studio, do you think it's plausible for the movie to break box office? The movie will surely attract a lot of Christans, possibly Muslims to the theaters so probably, and assuming the movie's story is good, it will probably attract non religious viewers too.

After seeing the trailer, I suspect it will have a pretty limited audience. Its not gonna be another Prince of Egypt, which was able to appeal to a wider audience. It feels like it will be too pandering for that.

I think we need to wait a bit more for more of the trailer before we can truly be the judge of that, but I honestly had a different reaction. It might be somewhat different from The Prince of Egypt, but in many ways The Light of the World carries much of the same qualities as that movie. Its animation style, of course, isn't as lavish, but it's still very lovely, and I did see some scenes that cast shadows. A $50 million gross might not be altogether out of the question. The Boy and the Heron came close to that.

But I think this also speaks to the fact that you have to be cautious of the budget, too. If you overspend on an animated movie, CG or not, the chances of failure are even bigger.

I actually think Jesus' story is more universal than given credit for. There have been numerous retellings of this which have found mainstream acceptance (everybody knows Jesus Christ Superstar). I don't think it'll be as limited a picture as implied. This could actually end up being something truly great.

Nice, I'm pretty sure I've seen that once, but completely forgot it existed. Crazy they even had a poster made for it, I dont think we ever got to see it.

Seems like they had fun. They should just make this movie.
