I saw Jodi at Delaney’s show on Instagram. That must have been a beautifully special moment for mother and daughter.

The Little Mermaid | Destruction of the Grotto (Story Reel)
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=cgqtFYjGjZU

Came across this today and thought I'd share.

There's a small handful of extra lines that apparently got cut, and Ariel's cries originally sounded a lot more like bawling early on.

As usual, the story sketches are just beautiful to behold.

EDIT: Oh, look! I found more!

The Little Mermaid | The Sunken Ship (Story Reels/Pencil Test)

The Little Mermaid | Fireworks/Jig (Story Reel/Pencil Test/Cleanup)

The Little Mermaid | Ursula's Plot (Story Reels/Pencil Test)

The Little Mermaid | Crash the Wedding (Story Reels/Pencil Test)

The Little Mermaid | Final Battle (Revised 1987 Story Reel)
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ML7tMtIpfKA

I'd known "Glut" was the name we'd settled on for the shark, but I guess I hadn't realized that at one point he was named in the film itself.

I love this "Evolution of" series on the Youtube account "justyourvoice".. it's amazing to see so many different iterations of these scenes and how they evolved over time from various workprints to final :)

I can't get over how magical the music is, especially when you get to hear it in the original piano demo form, played by Alan Menken himself!

I saw many posts about this on Instagram, Tik Tok and Facebook. It's such a beautiful moment; I love how mrs. Benson smiles as her daughter sings "Part of your world", she's so proud of her.

Ron Clements wrote: Sometimes people ask you, you know, what's your favorite movie? And we always say it's like asking who's your favorite child. It's a really tough question to answer, but I would say Little Mermaid was special to me partly because I pitched it, partly because of the whole experience of it, it wasn't my first time as a director, but Great Mouse Detective was a little different kind of a thing.

This was like, this was where John and I wrote the script together and then Howard Ashman came in, and working with Howard and Alan and the excitement of this. There was just certainly, I think an atmosphere surrounding that project that felt like there was potential here. There was potential here that maybe hadn't existed on some of the other films, and if we could somehow fulfil some of that potential that we could really have something special.

It's interesting to know The Little Mermaid is his favorite and why. I'm glad about that since it's my favorite as well.

Those are so pretty!

I love how they're all so on-model, but the different coloring and shading gives it a different tone.

Anyways, I had known that we were coming up on 35 years, but the date had totally slipped my mind. I'll have to celebrate tomorrow.

Oh, those videos are very cool! Thanks Farerb! Man, sometimes Glen Keane's animation was so rough and triangular, it's interesting how clean-up or final animation or whatever made it the final version!

The animators that made the inbetweening drawings made a great job and I'm sure that it wasn't easy. Glen's Key poses are caothic and the lines are not well defined. The animators that worked with him should have known much about the way that Glen uses to work to understand all his draws. Glen did a good job but the animators that were behind him did a really good job too. Without them the final resault wouldn't been possible.

Those have to be the most appealing illustrations from the movie I've ever seen. It kind of has a lilo and stich background feel, I guess becuase of the watercolor.
