I keep forgetting Stodolny is at WDAS! I still think of him as a DreamWorks guy. :P

Otherwise, it gives me hope to see the animators so happy to be working on the film. It's impossible to say how the movie will turn out, but I'm glad the crew are enthusiastic about it.

I agree. This film looks beautiful in the concept art. Usually when I like a film early like this, I end up enjoying its finished release (TP&TF and Raya were the two I went in excited for, and I loved both). I hope the same will be true with WishI!

I really hope Disney intends to release the first teaser trailer with The Little Mermaid in May. Considering both films should appeal to the same demographics, they'll be idiots not to do that.

Unfortunately, you may be more likely to see it with Elemental since Disney Animation debuts their teaser trailers before Pixar's movies.

The fact that the Lopezes are back for Frozen III made me once again wonder why they aren't doing this film. I wonder if their price is too high that Disney isn't willing to pay it for original projects but will do it for Frozen sequels.

Perhaps.

It could also be that Frozen III has been in production longer than we know of it. WDAS often has multiple productions in their pipeline that we either hear of or we don't officially. Kristen Bell sort of leaked it a few years ago, so maybe the Lopezes and cast were already tied into this, and no one could confirm officially until Iger said so on the earnings call.

She leaked it last June.

I also believe Chris Buck and Jennifer Lee are still busy with Wish, though we know that Josh Gad already started recording so who knows?

I think the only reason they aren't writing the songs for Wish is because the protagonist is an Afro-Latina and Disney specifically wanted a Latina songwriter for diversity and inclusion purposes.

Julia Michaels is Latina? I didn't know that. Ariana DeBose is Afro-Latina, but I didn't think Julia Michaels was.

So can we bet that Germaine Franco will do the score?

That's a safe bet. Especially after her Oscar nomination and Grammy win (which were underserved, in my opinion).

On the animation front, 2022 was a tough one for Disney, which saw Pixar’s Lightyear underperform and Disney Animation’s Strange World outright bomb. Iger announced three new sequels to $1 billion brands — Toy Story, Frozen and Zootopia — and Disney insiders have acknowledged recent box office woes were exacerbated by confusion in the marketplace from families who were trained during the pandemic just to wait for animated features to end up on Disney+. There is talk of longer theatrical windows for Elemental (June 16) and Disney Animation’s Wish (Nov. 22) in hopes of luring families back to theaters.

I think that's a good decision. By the way, Julia Michaels talked a bit about writing the songs for Wish on the Grammys' red carpet:

Will ‘The Marvels’ and ‘Wish’ Split Moviegoers? Disney Believes There’s Room for Both
Based on the first look shown at the D23 Expo, “Wish” has all the makings of a stone-cold Disney hit: soaring musical numbers sung by a princess, gorgeous fairy tale environments and a comic relief goat voiced by Alan Tudyk. It’s a film that’s much closer to “Frozen” than to “Strange World,” and that might be all that “Wish” needs to get little girls around the world begging their parents to see the film in theaters.

It’s hard to say at this point how well “Wish” will do when there hasn’t even been a teaser trailer released. Disney will likely start its marketing campaign for the film during the summer, attaching posters and trailers to their live-action/CGI remake of “The Little Mermaid” on Memorial Day weekend and the Pixar animated movie “Elemental” in June. If engagement on those trailers is strong, “Wish” may be on its way to becoming a rebound hit for Disney Animation.

It's so hard to predict anything that marketing machine does anymore. We're seeing now with TLM that we can only make guesses.

It seems to me like they're already lining up their excuses in case Wish does do poorly. "Yeah, we didn't do anything wrong. The movie underperformed because of The Marvels after all."
