Disney Princesses Got a Makeover

That's not surprising. White, blue-eyed, and blonde is considered the standard of beauty in Western culture anyway. It's why Aurora has always been so popular despite being void of personality, and why the PoC princesses always trend at the bottom. It's a shame because I always like Rapunzel better as a brunette actually. That said, I’m not overly fond of most merchandise that feature Rapunzel anyway since the transition from 3D to 2D doesn’t always look too good…

I'm always happy to see the HSM actors! It's definitely a remix! I like it, but I'm a fan of Disney pop anyway. I can imagine some people won't like the remix.

Random thoughts...

In terms of personalities and characters as themselves my favorite Princesses are Jasmine (who happens to be in my favorite Disney movie) and Ariel (my second favorite Disney movie).

However, in time, I´ve learned to REALLY like Aurora. To me she´s the perfect Princess. Not only is she in the definitive fairy tale but her design overall and beauty makes her standout for me. Her casual dress is beautiful in itself not to mention the lovely Princess one. And even both her names are lovely.

And then there´s Snow White. I used to hate the movie. Among other reasons that her voice is so unique that makes it the only Classic that actually feels dated. And, I don´t like short hair women. There has to be a certain type of women that can pull it off for me: Halle Berry and Charlize Theron for instance (she even looked great bald in Mad Max).

...however I´ve learned to like her because of the significance of the movie, her short hair helps to make her unique (and being the first Princess movie adds to make her feel special) and her dress is instantly recognizable. Just perfect.

...actually, it would be truly perfect if if merchandise they use the off yellow it truly is instead of bright yellow.

As for another comment, it would be nice if Disney would start to include the rest of actual Princesses. Not that they would add to the group but to acknowledge them in merchandise: Kida, Eilonwy and Megara.

...like how, every now and then Disney includes The Horned King, Frollo and Ratigan in Villains´ merch.

The outright sexism of this new direction in erasing Aurora, one of the premiere princesses disgusts me. I barely see her on any merch. Disney thinks being strong and empowered women means eradicating all femininity.

Have they been taking a page out of CS Lewis's book that wearing lipstick and dresses makes girls bad and sends you straight to purgatory? Girls only strong and girl bosses if they wear pants and say wisecracking phrases while wielding swords???
